What a super change in lifestyle and how it works for you, and I would love to know more. I love that you scrapped about it and the journaling is done in a cool way!
Thanks for sharing a snapshot of your life!! I'm in the process of changing the way we eat also, so I get this!! Super cute and whimsical, I love all the little tabs!!
This is fantastic! Not only is the page cool but what you do is fantastic!!! Good to do it now while you are young--everything is far worse when you are old like me---so I am doing that too--eating more fresh--more veggies etc (but not DH!LOL!)
I totally understand your weight loss journey. I lost 60 pounds. Being on the road and moving, I have gained 10 pounds back. Yikes. Eating healthy in restaurants is almost impossible. Just remember when you are working in your kitchen making the meals, you are so healthy and feel good. What a great idea for a layout. I should have done something like that!!!
Congrats on the life style change and on losing weight. We started a similar program 3 years ago. It's a lot of work and takes a lot of time, but is worth it in the end. Love that you scrapped this. Fabulous!
Very cool thing to document!!! I just read an article this morning about how the real key to a healthier lifestyle and weight loss is spending more time in the kitchen- not more time exercising! It made total sense! And now this....I am so inspired!! Do you recommend any books, online sites, etc.? Love this, and thanks a bunch for sharing!!
Although meals now are take-out and restaurant meals mostly (I don't do boxed meals or frozen dinners or any of that), when I had my kids at home and was taking care of my family, I was the same way. Now we travel so much I can't fall back on home cooked meals! But I'm a southern cook. Just turn me loose in the kitchen and I'm happy. I used to put a paper on the refrigerator every Sunday that had the menu's for dinner the next week. Even got up and made breakfast every morning. I won't claim they were the healthiest because I do use the sugar and the butter - but it was always fresh. I understand completely what you are doing. I even made all my baby food - neither have had baby food out of a jar! I just couldn't bring myself to give them something with a shelf life way older than they were! Its a lot of work, but I know your family appreciates it. Even now, I love to get lost in my kitchen!
One day a week (ok really its only like 5 hours) I sacrifice to cooking breakfasts, snacks, and lunches. Nearly everything my family eats is from scratch. I don't like food from a box and we have not stopped for fast food in over 3 years. It started when DH and I wanted to loose weight...which we did. I lost about 35 pounds and DH has lost over 60. The problem is, we couldn't go back. If we eat processed foods, we end up really tired and yet cant sleep well. We get gassy and have headaches. It just not worth it. I find I loose more time in the week being too tired to do anything more than watch mindless tv than I do if I just go ahead and cook everything. So yes 5 hours a weeks I spend making salads, egg cups, banana or pumpkin muffins, jars of yogurt and fruit, or nut energy bars. And it sucks...it' s a big mess I have to clean up and it takes away from play time. And this typically does NOT include any prep for our nightly dinners...those get made in the mad dash after I get home from work. But as a working mom, its worth giving up weekend time to make the mornings a easier (plus its cheaper than eating out every day). Its a part of who we are. The best I can hope is that it gives my daughter the same passion for food that we have and a sense of responsibility...sometimes fun has to wait if what you're working on is really important to you. It is to us (and I certainly do not expect others to agree...In this day and age of busy schedules I understand that it is not likely to make the top of everyone's list). But for now its what we do and this is just a snap shot of our lives over the past 3 years. So I if you ever just want to hang out on a Sundays, do a food swap, or share some recipes let me know...I'll be in the kitchen.
