This yellow squash was the first thing we picked form our garden....well, after all the flowers DD had been picking for a week. This was our first harvest! We were all so excited! I used it and its brothers and sisters in a squash & zucchini jalapeno rice (quinoa- sub) casserole. Yum! Unfortunately before the end of the summer we discovered a borer worm infestation and all our zucchinis and squash got wiped out. But its ok. A lesson learned about prepping the soil. We figure we have the rest of our lives to figure this stuff out. Besides...we got SOMETHING to grow. That is a pretty big deal, for us "city" kids.

BTW: HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY NATIONAL PARKS!! Today is a special day! Go outside and appreciate this amazing country of ours. And if you can watch the documentary "National Parks" by Ken Burns...its amazing!
