I think the timeline for the Nomadic is interesting:

1911 – Leaves Belfast for Cherbourg where she will tender White Star Line Trans-Atlantic Liners

1912 – Tenders RMS Titanic on her maiden voyage carrying 172 first and second class passengers

1917 – Requisitioned by French Government and served as a troop carrier during WWI

1934 – Cherbourg harbor deepened, Nomadic sold to Cherbourg towage and Salvage Company

1940 – Used as a rescue ship to evacuate soldiers from Cherbourg in WW2

1952 – Tendered to Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth

1968 – Last journey as a tender before being sold to a French businessman

1974 – Transformed into a floating entertainment complex in Paris and moored beside the Eiffel Tower for twenty-five years

1999 – Considered unsafe and she is closed to the public

2003 – Impounded in Le Havre and put up for auction

2006 – Purchased by the Department of Social Development at auction and
brought back to Belfast for restoration

As the tour continued we went through the neighborhoods that once had so much violence in the struggles between the Catholics and the Protestants – I could have spent a lot more time here too. The fence dividing the two is still partially standing and a mural runs along the lower part of the fence with graffiti and painting all along it. There is even one part with President Bill Clinton's message and signature.

I really would enjoy having this for a port day on another cruise. I really underestimated all there was to see and do in Belfast. I regret not being better prepared for this port – it had a lot to offer and I really missed so much of it.

We did find some really nice Titanic t-shirts. Bill bought matching t-shirts for us that have a big “Titanic Boarding Pass” on the front and under that, “Belfast” and the date. He also bought another Titanic t-shirt for me so we got back on the ship with two new Titanic t-shirts for me and one for Bill!
