JOURNALING: So, I threw the 5th and final load of laundry onto the bed and sighed. It had been a long day and at that point I started to just leave it, but I knew it would just sit there and call my name until I folded it. So, I plopped down beside the enormous pile and started this grueling task. It seemed to take forever. You were in and out of my room as I kept my steady pace and we exchanged brief and silly conversation. Once I finally got everything folded and in neat little stacks, I decided to take a little break before putting it all away. I came into the living room and sat down at my computer. By this time, you were watching TV and seemed content in doing so. You got up and walked down the hall. I figured you were just going to the restroom or something. After a few minutes, you walked back into the living room and said, “Mom, I did something in your room, come see.” Thinking you may have broken something I got a tad nervous. You opened the door so I could walk in and I starred in disbelief at the bed… no laundry stacks anywhere in sight. I looked over at you with surprise all over my face and said, “Where is all of the laundry?” You looked up at me, face gleaming, and said, “I put it all away for you.” I, of course pulled you towards me and gave you a big squeeze and exclaimed, “Dude!!! Oh my gosh!!! Thank you!! You TOTALLY get a bonus on your allowance for this one!!” Now… bonuses on your allowance are not given haphazardly. (I make sure of it.) So I’m not sure if you thought that far ahead. I’m not sure that you were just trying to squeeze in a little extra cash being that it was payday and all. You see I take great delight in the thought that maybe you saw the dread in my face as I began folding and just wanted to help me out in some way. But the more I think about it, the more I realize that your motives don’t really matter. The fact that you saw a task that needed to be done and took it upon yourself to complete it says so much about you as a person. My gosh, Gage. You make me so proud. Thank you for all you do to brighten so many of my days.
