Hello again! This is the companion page to Martha's. Everyone, please meet DH's paternal grandfather, Carl Oliver Knudtson. He is the first child of six born to Gulliek Knutsen and Gjertrude Knutsen, nee Olsdatter Fretheim. Carl was born on March 26, 1887. It is unknown exactly where he was born. He married Martha Erickson on November 19, 1919. They had five children. They made their home in Eau Claire, WI. Carl died on July 12, 1961 of coronary complications. He is buried in Chippewa Falls, WI. Carl passed away before DH was born. Its been told to me that Carl was a "difficult" person and denounced his entire family (parents and siblings). I guess if your opinion differed from Carl's, he held a grudge--for a lifetime. That is one of the reasons why the spelling of the last name is different. Carl changed the spelling because he did not want it to be the same as his parents. Interesting, of the four surviving children that Carl and Martha had, the two daughters used the family name from Norway and their two sons used the spelling Carl created. It is sad to think how the family dynamics could have been different had grudges not been held for so long and Carl's children and grandchildren could have known so many more people in their family tree. Its these types of challenges in life that can create controversy and forever change future generations.
I tried to design this LO as a companion to Martha's I used the same burgundy velveteen paper. I want to give a big Thanks to my sissy Lauri D who shared some of her fun stash with me. She gave me the ticket and the piece with the watches behind the truck. I created the stick pin on the left and the rosette. To link Carl to his parents, I used the same buttons as I used on Gulliek's page. To Lauri's suggestion I used Lyrical Letters for the title.

Wonderful heritage page. Love the velvet pp and plad ruffle. My maternal grandpa and his family are from Wisconsin. Most all of them are still living there.

A great companion page to Martha's layout, you did a wonderful job portraying the "difficult" man in a very flattering light!!! Again, enjoyed the story behind the photo, he looks so amiable in this photograph! The truck with the hay is a very delightful touch!!

So Wonderful! Love the material you added and all of the details are GREAT! Love the story too! I never thought you could "divorce" family but sounds like he did! Who knows, maybe he was right? lol....Being right can have a great cost!

Another amazing page sweetie! Everything is just so adorable, but that truck... that truck... that truck... I just can't get over how friggen cute that truck is!!! and the hay on the back and that pitch fork... LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Keep those LO's coming girl!

Wonderful heritage page!! Love your pps, distressing, and the superb photo! You framed it beautifully!!! Love the old jalopy with the hay and pitchfork!! Awesome flourishes, pin and rosette! The gold alphas are great! Sounds like he was a difficult person...grudges can destroy whole families!

This is a great heritage page...love that truck with the hay in the back, pitchfork is a nice addition..like that...also really like that dark paper behind the picture...really makes the picture stand out. Carl was a nice looking man...So sad that he carried grudges to the point of destroyiing his relationship with his family though.
