I am beginning to scrap pics of my Dad who past at the age of 69 due to brain cancer. He was 20 yrs older than me and we were extremely close. It has been 10 years and I am just now able to look at his pics without feeling so much grief. I believe this is the 1st pic taken of him.
Little history. My grandmother worked in the Tacoma shipyards where she met a young Swedish immigrant who barely spoke English, and they fell in love. They were to be married once he returned from a trip, but he didn't come back for some time. She was pregnant and when her family found out, they horse whipped her and threw her out of the house. She delivered my father and when he was 11 months old boarded a steamship for Juneau, AK. She never married my Father's Dad. She became a true, hardcore Alaskan woman and did some amazing things for a woman at that time. She had 4 other boys by 2 different husbands that past away before her. I admire her for her courage and bravery during hard times back then.
I found when doing this lo that I really love embellishing my los, I deliberately did not do much on the leaves, as I liked the stark contrast with the rest of the lo. I used 2 Kaiser wood flourishes for the top of the lo and various embellies and pp from the SOE/SOD kits. I want to thank all my sisters at SOE/SOD for their support in doing my first real vintage lo. Sorry for the glare, the lighting is not the best today. I have yet to figure out how to send messages back to everyone thanking them for visting and their comments. Please know that you all have been extremely supportive and very kind. TFL and I hope you all have a wonder day.
