wow, that's fabulous! I don't know if I have any waste fabric left, but this is such a great idea. But it takes me so long to do counted cross-stitch that it would take me a month to do all the stitching. You really deserve to win the sewing challenge!
Wow Lisa!!! This is SO creative, and I LOVE the cross stitch!!! I just love it all!!! Fabulous page!! Thanks for playing in the June Sewing Challenge!!
Wow! I used to cross-stitch too before I discovered scrapbooking. I can't believe you figured out how to do it on paper. Genius! love the colors and this fresh, fruity lo!
gorgeous page! such rich colors, perfect design, and the stitched watermelon is AWESOME!! I love cross stitching and have never thought of combining the two - but it looks so perfect here! Great job!
My last set of photos from Memorial Day 2008 - Cassie eating watermelon. This is also my last LO for May '08, so ... Yay!
I combined two of my hobbies here, scrapbooking and counted cross-stitch, by cross-stitching the watermelons using waste canvas on the green cs. The problem was, I couldn't get the waste canvas damp enough to pull out the threads without tearing the wet paper. I was able to remove the threads from the finer parts of the design, but for the rest, I had to just trim the waste as close to the stitching as I could. Some of it still shows a bit. There are detail shots attached.
This is my example for my June Four Categories Challenge - Category Two ~ Color: Red. There is no specific amount of red required, but the red should be prominent enough to draw the eye. The twist is to include fibers, fabric trims or ribbons - I used fibers in the banner and made a ribbon bow.
This is for: 1) June Monthly Sketch Challenge - Week 1 Bonus.
2) June Sewing Challenge. I hand sewed the watermelon design on the bottom, and I did the twist to 'stitch a banner' - I stitched black x's to tack down the fibers for the banner rope, and I used red floss to stitch along the edges of the banner flags.
3) VLB Challenge to use a quote on a LO. I printed a quote on vellum using the font Ladybug and blowing up the word 'watermelon' to serve as the page title. The quote says: When one has tasted watermelon he knows what the angels eat. ~Mark Twain
For the banner, I embossed a scrap of cs and punched out the flags. The 'rope' is green and red fibers I twisted together and stitched down. The gingham and watermelon pp's are from an old Scrapbooking Calendar. I fussy cut the watermelon frame and adhered the vellum with the title/quote to show through the hole.
