Every year I have to deal with 3 or 4 black widow spiders that I find around my home (usually in my basement!). I dislike killing things but my policy is if it is poisonous enough to harm either my family or my pets then it has to die. I took some photos of this gal first though. In the first one you can see her eyes as well as my reflection on her shiny body. In the next you can see the red hourglass as well as the the silk coming out of her. Such fascinating creatures. A bit off topic but the first time I ever held a tarantula I was astounded by how little it weighed. Based on her size I expected to feel something but I didn`t. It was rather disconcerting! TFL

Not fun! I found a dead one in my livingroom a couple of weeks ago, got rid of it quick before the grandbabies came over.

I agree with AuntyT...lots of girly shrieking and foot stomping. We have scorpians weekly....I HATE them. By the time I am finished with them, they are unrecognizable.

We have the same policy is my house. Scorpians don't get released into the wild. She's a beauty though I've never seen a black widow.

She's so shiny, like a little spider jewel! I would not like to deal with those.

Great photos but I would have never gotten to photograph her. It would have been a girly shriek and foot stomping!

It is a bit sad to have to kill a living creature, so glad you got such good photos of it first. I am surprised how shiny and smooth she is, here I only see hair black ones and Daddy Longlegs.

I despise spiders but I don't mind looking at them. It looks as if you could squeeze her body like the top of a turkey baster. She certainly is smooth, I don't see a hair one.

I have this extreme phobia of spiders, and yet - I can't help myself, I always have to look at the photos. So glad we don't have black widows here.
