Most of the customers were miners or fisherman – professions that required them to wear heavy work shoes or boots that had to be laced up and would take time to unlace, remove and then to put back on. Since time was bought in 8-minute increments with the girls, the men did not want to waste any of their precious paid-for time taking their boots off and putting them back on.

In the hallway was a linen closet filled with small shaggy rugs. By throwing these rugs across the bed the men could enjoy their 8 minutes getting what they paid for without having to remove their work boots. Also, these rugs made clean-up quicker and easier between customers.

Next on the tour were the prostitute's rooms which were very tiny. Each had a showroom dummy dressed in lingerie left behind when the women fled. Stockings, bras, and frilly panties hung from mirrors and lamps; vanities were cluttered with cans of hair spray, makeup and perfume. Christmas cards lay on a desk in one of the girl's rooms. Bill and I noticed that each room had a wash bucket, a paper cup dispenser and a can of air freshener. Each lamp had a red light bulb. Also a copy of the price list was posted on the wall of each girl's room.

On the outside of each door a color was painted – red, green blue, gold red and brown. That color was also on her drawer in the chest in the bathroom, on her medicine cabinet which was also in the bathroom, her locked money box and her kitchen timer.
