Living out in the country, every so often I get a chance to see something ... incredible. This was one of those days.
I was out watering the horses and four deer showed up in my south pasture. Deer normally bed down during the day and are active in the early morning and early evening hours, but these were out in the full sun of the afternoon - just searching - looking for water, for salt, for feed, for anything to sustain them in the middle of the worst drought Oklahoma has on record. It becomes more obvious how desperate they were when you consider that of the four of them, TWO were bucks in full velvet - one a six point and the other a four. And more incredible than all of this, they did not move when I went into the house and came back out again with my camera. I think that maybe they understood that a little picture taking was the price they had to pay for access to the fresh water troughs and hay bales.
I haven't seen my big doe this year. This female is one of her daughters. And no...nobody is allowed to hunt on my property. They're safe.
A BIG thanks to Karen for holding the Scraplift the Person Before You open a little past due date so that I can post my lift of PamStewartIowa's "Granny" layout.
Thanks for taking a peek. This went together fast, but it took all month to get it done. August - what a MESS!
