Camera Shy

My (other) sister, Karen when she was about 2. I used BG - Wistera papers. I used the apron punch on the lite lavender paper and did a little hand stitching with some dark purple thread. I used Hambly overlays behind the two rounded corners of the photo. The bottom scalloped edge is punched with a MS punch. Flowers by Prima. THe butterflies were downloaded from the internet and printed on a transparency. I added a few purple stickles to the edges of the butterflies. The sheer ribbon across the bottom is doubled and I tied a few knots across it and added a little purple bling. Added just a touch of doodling around the edges and some faux stitching on the striped paper. Journaling is tucked behind the light floral mat and reads:

School photos in the 1950s were always in black and white and were usually not very good. Cameras have improved greatly in the last 50 years, as well as photographers. This is a “school photo” of my sister Karen when she was about 2 years old (1956). I was five years old and was in the first grade. My teacher was Mrs. Davis. The school I attended was for grades 1-12 and it was in old wooden buildings that were built high off the ground. Our classrooms were small and the teachers not only knew the students (and all our brothers and sisters), but were usually on first name basis with our parents. Anything we did at school (especially things we shouldn't have done) was reported to our parents before we even got home from school! In those days, parents were allowed to bring the younger children to school on picture day to get their “school” pictures made too. Karen was always a little bashful and shy, and from the look on her face, I'd say she wasn't too keen on having her picture made that day!
