Kurtoskalacs- aka chimney or stove cakes. We tried cocoa, coconut, and cinnamon-sugar at the Christmas Markets while we were in Budapest. I believe they originate in Romania. They take strips of dough and twist them around the large wooden cylinder, and slather them in what looked to be butter/oil. Then they are cooked over the red hot coals, until golden brown. Next they are coated in your choice of toppings. We sampled a few a day over the weekend. They were best eaten fresh, which was never a problem because the four of us would finish one off very quickly!! We found them twice now in Germany but they were just cooked in a oven and the taste was nothing like the ones cooked over hot coals.
