My grandmother Grace again, the third and last photo I have, I think she may have been 10 here. Her mother died (at 28) when Grace was 12, and Grace raised her 3 brothers who were at that time 1 1/2, 3 1/2, and 7. She was married by 19 or 20 and had 8 kids of her own before she died of pneumonia at 56, when my mother (who was the youngest of the 8) was 17.
The edges of the first layer are torn and inked to look old, and the paper is painted with crackle paint. I hand cut the scallops on the two layers of matting, and punched the holes in each scallop. I made the butterfly out of flower petals, and put a dab of crackle paint on the wings. Made the body out of a scrap of black chipboard. The off white flowers I cut off a piece of lace. The little file folder pulls out and has the dates of her parents births, deaths, and marriage, as well as the dates of birth and death of her 4 brothers (1 died at birth). I bought myself a dictionary at the dollar store so I could tear the pages out I wanted, I chose this page because of how I see Grace's life. I used Cosmo Cricket Fleuriste Blackboard pieces, and I have 3 kinds of ink on them trying to get the effect I wanted, which I didn't get but I know what I did wrong, for next time. The sequins came from my late Aunt Billie's sewing stash which I found in mother's library.
