The photo I used for this layout was taken in June 1939. It was taken when my mother worked as a legal secretary for an admiralty firm in New York City. I remember her telling me that the firm was called Hodges, Reves, Pantaleone and Downey. My mother was very proud that she was a secretary for one of the partners. She told me that she would wear custom made suits, hats and gloves to work every day. In this photo, my mother (tall blonde) and a colleague are shown presenting a ceremonial bouquet to a captain of Colonial Line, a shipping line that ran between Providence, Rhode Island and New York City. I think that it was taken during a publicity shoot, as one of these photos was published in a Boston newspaper. It was definitely an honor for my mother to be chosen to be a part of this shoot.
