  • Review: We R Memory Keepers - Crop-A-Dile III Main Squeeze - Die Cutting Plates - Corner - Scallop

    Verified Buyer
    I recommend this product

Think Big, Think Bigger (15 October 2014)

I liked the idea of a larger-than-ordinary scalloped border with oversized polka dot holes. I already had the Crop-A-Dile III Main Squeeze so, although there were no reviews or recommendations, I decided to be brave and take the plunge. The plunge became more like a leap of faith, as I purchased both the border and corner dies.

This is definitely a plunge worth taking. The corner and border dies work flawlessly together, are easy to use, and create a distinctive look. I have had absolutely no negative experiences with this die.

A snowman down on his luck but not his charm. (19 September 2014)

This little guy in his secondhand apparel was an addition to my snowman die collection. I attached his arms from the back so as to suggest they come from his sides rather than from his chest. I especially like his hat. I cut him from Bazzill double thick paper and used Memento pens to color. He cut clean and was quick to assemble.

A Butterfly By Any Other Name... (19 September 2014)

I am an artist with two degrees in art and design, so I should be doing my own stuff, right? I have a confession. I have crossed over to the dark side and am having the time of my life with paper crafts. I watercolor all my punched and die cut shapes. That's why the Botanical Sanctuary Collection appeals to me so much. The designs suggest rather than trying to imitate the real thing. I can already see (in my mind's eye) the uses to which I am looking forward to applying these designs.

If you like a soft look on your cards or pages, you can make these die cuts as nostalgic as you like or as modern as you like. They cut cleanly, and the negative pieces fall out easily. Since there is so much open space in the designs, as you extract them from the paper from which they are cut they do tend to catch on the uneven edges. So take a little care and they will yield abundant rewards that will not fly away.

  • Review: Fiskars - Lever Punch - XXL - 2.5 Inch Tag

    Verified Buyer
    I recommend this product

    A Tag-Team Candidate (19 September 2014)

Physically the punch is large but surprisingly light weight for its size. I purchased it because the tag size was right for what I need to do with it. It punches clean and crisp tags from Blending Card recommended for Copic marker use and from the synthetic water media paper Yupo. I am pleased with it. The lever action is easy on my hands, and that's a plus right there.

Die Cut, or Die Trying (19 September 2014)

This tag was just the right size for my project. Since I already had the Crop-A-Dile III Main Squeeze, I purchased the die. I agree with the previous reviewer about the slow "breaking in" process. Initially the die would only cut thin paper. I had to cut about 170 tags from 98 lb. Mi-Teintes art paper. Just when I had decided to return the die, it began cutting all the way though the Mi-Teintes. I did have to clean out the tag hole part of the die with a sharp, pointy stiletto type tool ever so often as the build up of hole "centers" would begin to interfere with the cutting process.

My project is finished now, and I can confidently say that this tool and die is a great way to get into shape for the US Olympic Punch Squeezing Team try-outs.

    This Bee Won't Sting (19 September 2014)

I've had a life-long love/hate relationship with real bees since I was a child, having been badly stung by a bumble bee. When embossed with the enclosed embossing folder, this bee offers only the promise of good memories and stunning results. So easy to use. Dress it up or down, use it in so many ways, this bee is a star.

Takes Me Back To My Childhood (19 September 2014)

Okay, so I wax nostalgic. When I was a child, we had an enormous irrigation reservoir on the farm (where I still live). I would spend hours watching the dragonflies and never tired of it. There were different species, but one was nearly as large as this die cut. They were absolutely stunning. This one, after embossing it with the enclosed embossing folder and giving it your favorite creative treatment, will be just as stunning.

This Butterfly Doesn't Go South (19 September 2014)

Some real butterflies go south for the winter, while some designs just go south, period! This design does neither. The enclosed embossing folder texturizes this butterfly beautifully. You can dress it up or dress it down Tim Holtz style. However you choose to use it, it will be a star. I suggest using fine black craft wire for an antennae.

    Good Stuff! (19 September 2014)

When you need a hard finish, substantial paper this item fills the bill. I've used it as a page foundation, index dividers, for easel backs die cut with Tim Holtz's Bigz easel die, and for die cut (Bigz dies) snowmen. It cuts beautifully and holds up well wherever I use it and for whatever purpose. I have it in 8.5 x 11 and 12 x 12, in both white and black.

    Verified Buyer
    I recommend this product

    I Give It An A+++ (04 September 2014)

EK Success got it right when it redesigned its punch line, replacing traditional button punches with a sleek, easy to use modern construction. This Jack-o-Lantern design gives the crafter the ability to produce many different looks from just one punch. It is easy on the hands whether punching upside down or right side up. This type o punch construction provides a bonus feature, it locks and stores easily.

Thinking Outside the Button Punch (04 September 2014)

This punch's intelligent construction and sensible design was a long time in coming to the paper craft world. It is a joy to use and easy on the hands. There is no guesswork needed to punch exactly where I want. I would replace all my older button punches with ones of this style if I could. My only complaint is that there are so few designs and sizes available.

  • Review: Spellbinders - Shapeabilities Collection - D-Lites - Die Cutting and Embossing Template - Flower Box

    I don't recommend this product

Not Worth The Money (27 August 2014)

I have this die. Spellbinders' earlier dies were lovely and a joy to use. This die, and others like it, are too over-done and the paper design is too difficult to extract from the die once it is cut. I have yet to be able to remove a die cut from this die without tearing, and I am a careful paper crafter and particular about my work.

  • Review: Unhinged Creative - Stickles Storage Container - Double Tier Designer Glitter Glue Holder

    I recommend this product

Not Quite A Great Product (26 November 2012)

This product is a good idea that missed being a great idea by only about 1/4". I learned a lot about the caps on all the little bottles of Stickles, Color Box reinker bottles, alcohol ink bottles, Liquid Pearls bottles, and so on. They all look alike, except for one crucial detail. There are "long nose" caps and "short nose" caps. The difference is only about 3/16". The level of the lower tier needs to re raised slightly to keep the long nosed bottle caps from tilting to the outside and falling out of the holes when the cylinder cover is removed. The top tier also needs to be raised enough to keep the caps on those bottles from catching on and dislodging the bottom tier bottles. There is just enough room under the cylinder cover to allow the height adjustment. Since I am not one to do things by halves--I bought 10 of these to hold all my bottles--I had to make them work. I experimented with paper washers cut from double thick paper, but it took multiple washers to do the trick. I soon had my fill of cutting all those washers, even when using paper punches. Metal fender washers were difficult to find (and expensive), requiring a 9/16" inner opening and a max outer dia. of 1". In the midst of my angst I noticed a thin rubber band lying on my desk top. There was the no cost solution right before me. Wrap a thin rubber band tightly around the central stem several times. It can be rolled up or down, like a grommet, with the fingers. Fine adjustments can easily be made to lift the bottle caps just enough to clear. The outer cylinder has just enough extra room at the top to still fit. Of course, rubber bands do rot because of the acid in them, but they are abundant and easy to replace. It would have been nice for the designers of this storage idea to have noticed the slight difference in bottle caps and adjusted the design just enough that all bottles fit, so this twiddling wouldn't be necessary. That's what keeps this storage idea from being a 5-star idea.

EK Success 2 1/4" circle punch: Excellent Design (06 October 2012)

The redesigned punches from EK Success are absolutely marvelous. Finally someone thought outside of the boxy button punches and came up with a design that does all the right things. It punches as easily upside down as it does right side up. And, best of all, it locks and stores like no other punch. I would replace all my old button punches with this new design if I could.
