Night: My Solace

Night is sweet release
forgetfulness and peace
as I let the harsh, bright
painful light of day fade.
I sink into the warm, soft,
surrounding, comforting womb
of my bed.

I let this lifeless mother
hold me, and transport me
to a place where all is well,
as it should be.

Unlike the day,
for which I am
too slow
too dull
too dim
to shine.

Only at night can my light be seen.
A pale glow, what remains of
the fiery star that once burned bright.

The night suits me now.
Melancholy,
sad,
dark,
but true
and faintly hopeful, I shine.
