Freedom’s Monument

Freedom’s Monument

In the Black Hills of South Dakota,
Jagged granite outcrops rise.
Carved in stone, they stand forever,
Four men framed by azure skies.

Each one represents an era,
Of our nation’s history.
The first man was a mighty leader,
Of patriots who fought to make us free.

One set his pen to independence,
With hope of freedom’s guarantee.
Another defended glory’s banner,
Preserving our nation’s liberty.

The last stood for rights endowed,
Assuring all mankind’s equality.
All four upon this mountain grandeur,
A mighty monument to the free.
