I found letters to Grandma
From my daddy many years ago
How much he loved her I really didnt know
Each letter was Hello Mother
Please dont worry about me or my brothers
I have sent you money to use as you need
Please keep sending letters for me to read
Thank you for the box you and sisters sent
But dear mother the money on you should be spent
So while you sleep in your bed tonight
Remember brothers and I will continue to fight
And maybe soon we can come home
To see our loved ones and no more to roam
The inspiration for this poem came from a box of letters i found from
my daddy to Grandmother during World War 2 When she had 3 sons in the War at once My daddy and 2 Uncles at the time he was writing. One uncle was in the hospital in England from Combat wounds, the other uncle was missing action and taken prisoner or war in Germany an Daddys censured letters only said somewhere in England and some said some where in France so his whereabouts were sketchy. Im sure my Granmother was in torment at this time..
