GRANDMOTHER'S MEMORY GARDEN
Submitted by: hayseed
Author: ADINE CATHEY
TIME STANDS STILL IN MY MEMORY GARDEN
BUT THE YEARS PASS BY SO FAST,
PRESCHOOL, KINDERGARTEN, FIFTH GRADE
I WISH THE MOMENTS WOULD LAST.

GIVING A PUPPY A RIDE IN A DOLL BUGGY
THE LITTLE GIRL WAS HAVING SO MUCH FUN,
A LITTLE BOY WAS RIDING HIS BIKE
AROUND THE CEMENT PAD IN THE SUMMER SUN.

THE CHILDREN LOVE TO COLOR, BAKE COOKIES
PLAY WITH CARS, DOLLS, AND A BALL,
WATCH COWBOY MOVIES, WEAR DRESS-UP SHOES
DRIVE A HOOK-TRUCK TO MAKE A HAUL.

HELP IN THE KITCHEN....FIX PLATES
STIR UP A DELICIOUS CAKE,
ALL THESE THINGS ARE FUN FOR THEM
BUT OH, THE MESS THEY CAN MAKE !

WATCHING THE GIRLS IN A DANCE RECITAL
BOY PLAYS SOCCER....WAS THAT A GOAL ?
GIRLS POLISH NAILS AND FIX THEIR HAIR
I WISH THE YEARS WOULD GO VERY SLOW.

GOING TO THE POND TO DO SOME FISHING
WATCHING THE EXCITEMENT ON A CHILD'S FACE,
BOY DRESSED IN HIS FAVORITE FLANNEL SHIRT
GIRLS IN BLUE JEANS.....FORGOTTEN LACE.

SPLASHING WATER IN THE POOL
IN THE SAND BOX....BURY UP IN SAND,
TAKING A TEDDY BEAR PICNIC IN THE WOODS
PICKING UP A TURTLE WITH A BARE HAND.

BUILDING A SNOWMAN IN THE FIELD
THE CHILDREN WAVED AS THEY SPED BY,
GOING SLID RIDING DOWN THE HILL
WONDER IF HE KNEW THEY SAID HI !

IN MY GARDEN OF MEMORIES
IN YEARS FROM NOW, I WILL BE GLAD,
FOR THE CHERISHED MOMENTS THEY GAVE ME
THESE FINE YOUNG LADIES AND A LAD.
