A SHADY COUNTRY ROAD
Submitted by: hayseed
Author: ADINE CATHEY
I LOVE TO WALK IN THE COUNTRY
DOWN A WINDING ROAD IN ANY SEASON,
IT MIGHT BE SPRING OR LATE FALL
I LOVE BEING THERE FOR NO CERTAIN REASON.

THE FLOWERS BLOOMING ALONG SIDE OF THE ROAD
MAY BE WILD OR EVEN A PRETTY WEED,
I STOP AND ADMIRE EACH AND EVERY ONE
THEY ARE ALL THERE BY A SCATTERED SEED.

THERE ARE BUTTERFLIES AND BEES
THEY ARE FINDING A LOT OF HONEY TODAY,
I STOP AND WATCH AND ADMIRE
THERE IS MUCH TO SEE AND I WANT TO STAY.

THIS LITTLE ROAD IS COVERED WITH DUST
THE SUN IS BEATING DOWN, BUT I AM IN THE SHADE,
THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF TREES
A CANOPY THEY HAVE MADE.

THERE ARE BIRDS FLYING ALL AROUND
A RED CARDINAL IS SINGING IN A LIMB UP ABOVE,
I NOTICE THERE IS A NEST CLOSE
I WANT TO BELIEVE HE IS SINGING TO HER OF HIS LOVE.

I WALK SLOWLY ON MY HIKE
TRAVELING TODAY ON THIS DUSTY PATH,
I WANT TO REMEMBER EVERY DETAIL
AS I WOULD LIKE THIS ADVENTURE TO LAST

THERE IS A ROCKY CLIFF BESIDE THE ROAD
A SMALL REDBUD TREE IS CLINGING ON TIGHT IN ITS DAILY STRIFE,
I KNOW IT WILL MAKE IT FOR THERE ARE OTHERS
GROWING IN THE DIRT AS THEY HANG ON FOR DEAR LIFE

CLIMBING UP A HALF-ROTTED FENCE POST
IS A DELICATE BLUE MORNING GLORY VINE,
ITS TENDRILS HAS TWINED ALONG SOME RUSTY BARB WIRE
THIS FLOWER IS CERTAINLY A FAVORITE OF MINE.

AN OLD BENT KNOTTY APPLE TREE STANDS OVER THE HILL
FAR BELOW IS A LITTLE RAMBLING CREEK,
STEPPING ON MOSSY ROCKS I LOVE TO WALK
AS ITS COOL WATER I OFTEN SEEK.

I ALWAYS NOTICE SOMETHING DIFFERENT
NO MATTER THE TIME OF YEAR I COME HERE,
IT CHANGES DAILY, YET STAYS THE SAME
IT IS A PLACE THAT I TREASURE AND HOLD VERY DEAR.

IN THE SPRING THERE IS RENEWED LIFE
IN THE FALL AND WINTER THERE IS A DIFFERENT SCENE,
LEAVES CHANGE COLOR AND BEGIN TO FALL
THEN THE SNOWS ARRIVE AND EVERYTHING IS PURE AND CLEAN.

FROM SPRING TIME WITH GLORIOUS FLOWERS
THERE IS SO MUCH TO ADMIRE BY ME,
FALL WITH RED, YELLOW AND ORANGE LEAVES
TO THE BREATH-TAKING SNOW - RABBIT TRACKS TO SEE.

I KNOW THIS PLACE WILL ALWAYS BE HERE FOR ME
AS I WALK DOWN THE LITTLE DIRT PATH,
MOTHER NATURE HAS TUCKED IT FAR AWAY
IT'S CHARMING BEAUTY WILL BE THERE TO FOREVER LAST.

I have been to just such a place. I love the country and all it offers in the
way of beauty. I love the different seasons - spring with all the wonderful
flowers and in the fall, the glorious changing of the leaves. the snow is
breath-taking in the winter. I really love the changing of the seasons.
