A LONELY LITTLE TOAD STOOL
Submitted by: hayseed
Author: ADINE CATHEY
THE LITTLE GRAY TOAD STOOL
WAS STANDING BY A WET CREEK BANK ALL ALONE,
HE WAS THINKING HOW HE COULD
MAKE SOME CREATURE A NICE HOME.

IT HAD BEEN RAINING ALL MORNING
THE RAINS SPLASHING DOWN ON THE GROUND,
HE HAD LOOKED BOTH WAYS DOWN THE CROOKED PATH
HE COULD NOT SEE ANYONE COMING AROUND.

HE HAD BEEN HERE ALL FALL HOPING SOMEONE
WOULD WANT TO GET IN OUT OF THE COLD,
THOSE OTHER TOAD STOOLS DOWN THE ROAD
HAD MORE CRITTERS THAN THEY COULD HOLD.

WHEN SUDDENLY HE HAPPENED TO SEE
A SMALL LADY BUG CRAWLING DOWN THE PATH,
MAYBE SOMEONE HAD SHOWED UP
WOULD WANT A NICE HOME AT LAST !

HE SHOOK OFF THE RAIN AND STOOD VERY STRAIGHT
TRIED TO LOOK VERY TALL,
AFTER ALL IF SHE DID NOT LIKE HIS LOOKS
SHE MIGHT NOT WANT HIS ROOM AT ALL !

SHE LOOKED VERY TIRED AND WALKED SLOW
THE LOOK ON HER FACE MADE HER LOOK SAD,
THEN SUDDENLY SHE DID SPY THE TOAD STOOL
SHE LOOKED OVER AT HIM AND DID SEEM VERY GLAD.

SHE SAT HER LITTLE LUGGAGE DOW
SAID TO HERSELF - BEEN LOOKING FOR SOME TIME,
THIS IS WHERE WE ARE GOING TO LIVE
THIS TOAD STOOL HOME WILL BE MINE.

SHE OPENED HER LITTLE BAG
AND SAID TO THOSE INSIDE, WE WILL NO LONGER ROAM
OUT STEPPED BABY BUGS - TOO MANY TO COUNT
THIS WILL FOREVER BE OUR NEW HOME.

A LITTLE FAMILY WAS LIVING WITH HIM
THE LITTLE TOAD STOOL WAS NO LONGER SAD,
HE DID BELIEVE THE OTHER TOAD STOOLS GOT JEALOUS
BUT HE DIDN'T THINK THEY GOT VERY MAD.

AS THE LITTLE LADY BUG PLACED ALL HER BABIES TO BED
HE WAS NOW A HOME TO A CRITTER - MOVED IN TODAY,
IF IT HAD BEEN A MOUSE OR A MOLE - WOULD HAVE BEEN CROWDED
THESE LITTLE BUGS WOULD HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM TO PLAY.

Written ........... August 29, 2008
I have always liked toad stools, lady bugs, small things of nature. I
just began to write and this is the poem I came up with. Has a happy
ending as I don't like sadness...there is too much of that in the world.
