ASSEMBLING A SNOWMAN
Author: ADINE CATHEY
COME LOOK OUT THE WINDOW !
SNOW IS SOFTY, QUIETLY TOUCHING THE GROUND,
THE AIR IS FULL OF "FEATHERS"
AS THE FLAKES COME TUMBLING DOWN.
THE TREES ARE DRESSED IN WHITE ROBES
THEIR LIMBS ALL DECKED OUT IN WHITE ARRAY,
IT WILL PROBABLY BE SOME TIME
BEFORE THIS STORM THINKS OF GOING AWAY.
WE MUST HURRY OUTDOORS
BEGIN TO ASSEMBLE A SNOWMAN,
HIS STUFFING IS SCATTERED ALL AROUND - EVERYWHERE
WE WANT TO BUILD A NICE TALL ONE - I KNOW WE SURELY CAN.
HUNT UP AN OLD RED SCARF
ALSO A CARROT - HE MUST HAVE A NOSE,
A BATTERED OLD BROWN FARM HAT
A JACKET - DO SNOWMEN WEAR CLOTHES ?
MAKE HIM A BIG TUMMY
A JOLLY SNOWMAN FAT AND ROUND,
ROLL THE BALLS OVER AND OVER
PICKING UP LOOSE SNOW OFF THE GROUND.
ROLLING THOSE HUGE WHITE BALLS
STACKING THEM UP - LIFTING BY HAND,
A LOT OF WORK GOES INTO THIS 'WINTER FUN'
BUT WE'RE PLANNING ON A VERY LARGE SNOWMAN.
LOCATE A PAIR OF GLOVES - SOME WITH NO HOLES
ONE FADED PURPLE, ANOTHER ONE GREEN WILL DO,
DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY DON'T MATCH
GATHER A STICK FOR AN ARM - MAKE THAT TWO.
WE CAN USE THOSE OLD BLACK RUBBER BOOTS
THE ONES SITTING BY THE BACK DOOR,
A MOUSE BUILT A NEST IN ONE OF THEM
NO BODY WANTS TO WEAR THEM ANYMORE.
MAMA HAS SOME OLD JAR LIDS
GET THE ONES PAINTED BLUE,
WE'LL ARRANGE FOR HIM TO HAVE BUTTONS
PROBABLY ABOUT FIVE - RECKON THAT WOULD DO.
OUR SNOWMAN CAN WAVE FROM THE FRONT YARD
AS FOLKS TRAVEL ON THEIR WAY GOING BY,
WITH SEVEN SMALL BLOCKS OF COAL FOR TEETH
IT WILL MAKE HIM LOOK AS THOUGH HE'S SMILING HI !
IT IS A WONDERFUL TIME OF YEAR
WHEN A SNOWMAN COMES TO STAY A DAY OR TWO,
THEN THERE'S SLED RIDES DOWN THE HILL
AND SNOW ANGELS FOR EVERYONE TO JOIN IN AND DO.
Written.......November 27, 2008
I love snow, especially a big fluffy soft white snow that covers
everything and turns the earth into a magic wonderland. We have
always built snowmen, if there was any amount to work with. The
Grandchildren love to do Snow Angels, getting up very carefully
to see what they have made. Also going sled riding and getting
spilled, as they head down a steep slope in the pasture field.
We are lucky to live where we can have changing seasons and truly
enjoy all the wonders of fall, winter and then the beauty of spring.
