They are pretty eady to figure out. Yhe solid black plastic is the side that "looks" at you when put it into the slot.
Make sure the 2 nubs on the back of the insert is pointing down. I
f you do not have long fingers (I don't) and you don't have a long fingered hubby (I do) then do this, place the Portaink on flat surface with the front facing you, use 2
pencils thst are long enough and use the eraser ends to push on each side of the inserts, over the nubs would be best.
Note: The reason I use the 2 pencils is because some of these little buggers just will not go in. If you try pushing on them in the middle there is a good chance they will crack.
I cracked 6 inserts in my first set.
Once they are snapped in they aren't as easy to pop out, so you may want to make sure of where you ate putting your shorter pads.
I have all of the SBC ink pads in one and half Portainks with no inserts, the other half has Oxide Pads that do have inserts. Another 1 (I have 3 and just received my 4th yesterday) will not have the inserts as the newest colors of Stampin up pads will go in that one.
Some pads can go sideways into the long slots because they are just a touch too wide like SSS pads and Lawn Fawn pads.
You don't "have" to snap them in, I guess, but it's better than trying to move it back in place in case it goes wonky when pulling out a pad.
A friend of mine just bought adapters for her ink pad set up to fit the new slimmer SU pads and I nearly fell over from sticker shock!
Thank you SBC for carrying these inserts!
