Make own envelopes

Make Own Envelopes:
Create fun envelopes using everything from wrapping paper and magazine pages to color-copied photos and vellum. If you're planning on mailing the card, be sure to make the envelope out of paper that isn't highly glazed or too dark as this interferes with the reading of the address and postmark.

Before you make the envelope, choose a flap style and seam style that best suite the piece of mail you're sending. The following are some traditional flap styles, and instructions for making different seams.

Flap Styles: Pointed, Square, Wallet, Commercial, Mail Point, Side Seam Envelope

YOU'LL NEED

8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper
Scissors
Scorer
Glue stick

INSTRUCTIONS

1 Place the card in the center of the paper.

2 Fold the bottom of the paper over the card, leaving the top 1/4 exposed.

3 Fold the top of the paper down over the card, covering it the rest of the way to make the seal flap.

4 Fold the sides of the card in on each side to fit the edge of the card.

5 Unfold the paper and score all folded lines. Note: The envelope will appear to be separated into three segments: seal flap, front, and bottom flap.

6 On the seal flap, cut the side fold away on either side. Repeat for the bottom flap. Note: Only the front will have side flaps remaining.

7 Cut the four edges of the remaining side flaps at a 45 degree angle.

8 Apply glue to the outside surface of the side flaps. Fold the bottom flap over the side flaps to glue it in place.

9 Cut the edges of the seal flap with the scissors as desired. Place your card in the envelope, add glue to the top edge of the seal flap, and fold it down to seal the envelope.
