Homemade clip it up how to!
Submitted by: scrapbook girl
The list:

- 1 12"-14" Ceiling light fixture (just the glass part) Some people also use a terracotta pot saucer flipped upside down, but you have to drill a hole in this. Don't get a plastic one!
-Two old lampshades that attach to a lamp via a harp and finial and not with the wire on the bulb. One should be about the same diameter as your base and the other about half that.
-Heavy gage wire
-Pliers
-Wire cutters
-liquid glue or hot glue gun

*Lamp parts (all can probably be found in the lighting dept at the the local hardware store)*
-1 threaded rod (approx. 28"-32")
-6 packs of nuts and lock washers
-1 finial
-spray paint (optional)

Step one:

DESTROY the lamp shapes!! (This is the fun part!!) All you want is the top ring. After you have completely taken the “shade” part off and you are left with the ring, put that aside for now. (make sure it is clean, no adhesive or anything left on it)

Step two:

Take the threaded rod and screw on a nut/washer combination about 8” or so down this will be for the largest shade ring, then put the shade ring on followed by another nut/washer combination.

TIP: make sure the shade ring is loose enough to spin

Step three:

Now do another nut/washer combination about 1” from the top and add the smaller shade ring followed by a nut/washer combination and then the finial.

TIP: make sure the shade ring is loose enough to spin

Step four:

Put yet another nut/washer combination on the bottom of the threaded rod about 3” or so high on the rod.

Step Five:

Take the light fixture or terracotta pot and put the threaded rod through the hole then add yes one more nut/washer combination and add a bunch of liquid glue or hot glue gun to the area where the rod meets the fixture while the rod AND fixture are sitting on a table and tighten the nuts on top and bottom.

Step six:

Add a GLOB of glue (hot or liquid) to the top and bottom of the fixture around the rod to prevent the metal rod from breaking the glass. Let it dry over night for liquid glue.

Step seven *clips and hooks*:

To make the hooks use a heavy gage wire and wire clippers, cut about 40 or so 2-3” pieces and make a S looking shapes with pliers but have the bottom loop on the S pointing out to the side. For example, the top loop on the S will be facing North while the bottom loop is facing West.

For the “ clips “ I used office clips Very easy to hook on the hooks!

Step eight:

ADD ALL YOU STUFF!!!

Here are some photos to help!
