Punchwork made to look like Folk Art is easy to accomplish by using muted colors, shading them with chalk and by incorporating pop dots. When Featured Artist, Eva Flake, wants to bring a punched Folk Art piece to life she "layers" the work by using Pop Dots behind some of the punched pieces. "I think of the wood painting I sometimes do when I create a Folk Art punched layout", says Eva. Painted wood crafts have layers of wood pieces that give the piece depth and dimension. Pop Dots raise paper piece just enough to give depth and create shadows.

Add brown or black chalk to the edges of punched pieces just like you would larger paper piecing. When choosing the Punches for your layout, study the photo carefully so that the Punches you choose will compliment the subject matter and help tell the story in a subtle way.
