One of the final steps in creating a Folk Art layout is penwork. Often the
Embellishments as well as the edges of the background need this finishing touch. When the eye see penwork a message is sent to the brain that there is a finished edge, the work stops here, or this is separate from everything else that is going on. It makes an object stand on its own.
Penwork strokes in Folk Art are quick, light and wispy. If you labor too long or think too hard about the strokes, they will end up being too precise and predictable. I suggest that you move your hand faster that you are normally used to. For optimal results use the fine tip of a Zig Writer with is 0.5. Black is the first color choice.
