How to download fonts from the internet
Submitted by: MsAngelasScraps
Directions for downloading new fonts:

Before you go on the internet, right click on your desktop. (That is the very first screen you come to when you turn on your computer) Right click on the desktop away from your other icons. A window should open up and give you the following options:
*Arrange icons by
*Refresh
*Paste shortcut
*New
*Properties
You want to go down to the option “new”. Another window will appear when you go down to new. Now you want to select “folder” which should be at the very top.
A little folder will appear on your desktop and all windows will close. The word new folder will be highlighted in blue so you can name your new folder. Type the word “Zipped” in the highlighted area…You just named your new folder zipped because all of the fonts you are about to download will be zipped files. I will show you how to unzip them later…
Now you are ready to go to the internet for some free fonts!
First go to the website http://beautifulfonts.com/
At the top of the page you will see the letters A-Z. These are different pages of fonts that start with that letter. All fonts have their own name. For example, if you are looking for a font called beachtype then you would click on B…Okay, now look down the screen towards the bottom, and you will see the font called “Walt Disney” It also gives you an example of what that font will look like so you can preview it before you download it. We will download this one for our example because it’s cool looking!
Left click on the Walt Disney font and a window will appear. It will say “You are downloading the file waltdisneyzip from beautifulfonts.com” That is good! That’s what we’re here for…It will give you the options to open, save, cancel or more info. You want to left click on save because we are saving the font to your computer. A new box will pop up and say “Save as” Now you need to find the zipped file we created because that is where we are going to save this Walt Disney font. Your zipped file is on your desktop so find that choice first…All computers are a little different so I can’t baby walk ya through this step…hopefully all will go well and you will find the zipped file easily. When you find the zipped folder double click on it to open it. The window should then say “Save in: Zipped” If it does then click on save. A new window will appear that says “Download complete” Click on the little red X or close. Now close or minimize your internet so we can see if you saved the font correctly, and I will show you how to unzip it. Back on your desktop we are going to create another new folder just like we did when we made the folder called zipped. This will be where we are going to put the fonts after we unzip them. So right click on your desktop, select new, then select folder, instead of naming this one zipped, type “fonts” in the highlighted area. Now you should have 2 folders on your desktop. (One called zipped, and the other called fonts) Double click on the zipped folder to see if our Walt Disney font is there. It will look like a little folder with a zipper on it because it is a zipped file. Click ONCE on the font just enough to highlight it. Now up at the top…the very very top left hand corner, click on the word file, but make sure to leave the Walt Disney folder highlighted. You have to unzip fonts one at a time so the highlight font is the one you are working on. I am just doing the one font for now but once you get the hang of this you will be able to go to a website stick hundreds of zipped fonts in your zipped folder. Then you can unzip and install them all whenever you feel like it. Anyhow, once you click on the word file up at the top left, a window will appear giving you several options. You want to find the option that says “Extract all” and click on it. A new window will pop up called the extraction wizard…Click next at the bottom. The second window should say “Select a folder to extract files to”…Click the browse button, then find desktop, click on desktop and then double click the folder we named “fonts”. It will look like the little folder called fonts just opened up for you and that’s good because we are putting something in it. Down towards the bottom of that window click “okay”. When that window closes, click “next” on the window that is still open. There will be an option that says show extracted files, make sure that is marked with a check mark….Now click “finish”. A window will pop up (That is our folder we named fonts) It opens automatically because we have checked the option to show the extracted files. You will see 2 icons inside. One is called “wds text document” it looks like a pad of paper on my computer. The other icon is called “True Type Font File” On my puter it is a sheet of paper with two T’s on it. This is the actual font. It is the only thing you need to install so go ahead and delete the one that says text document…When you download fonts, you also download read me files and copyright info. You don’t need any of it so delete anything except for the ones that are “True Type Font Files” (have the two large T’s on them). (To delete the rest just right click on them and select delete) Now you should only have the “True Type Font File” left. Close out of all folders and now we will install the Walt Disney font onto your computer. Down at the lower left hand corner of your desktop click on “Start” When the window appears, click on “settings” then on “control panel”. There will be an icon called “fonts” somewhere in there. Double click on it to open it. Inside you will see a whole bunch of icons with two T’s on them. These are the fonts that your computer already has. You have probably used a lot of them in Microsoft Word already. We are going to add the Walt Disney font to the rest of your existing fonts. In the upper left hand corner, click on “File”. A window will appear and give you the option to “install new font”. Find that option and click on it. A new window will appear. Now you want to find the folder we named “fonts” Under “drives” you should be in C….In the folders section, you should be in C: also. Double click on documents and settings, then on desktop, and you should find the folder we named “fonts”. Double click it to open it and you should see the Walt Disney Script (True Type) appear in the window under our list of fonts. In the upper right hand corner of the window, click on select all and the Walt Disney font will be selected. Had you unzipped other fonts and put them into our font folder, they would appear here also. Now click the “okay” button. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you should see that the Walt Disney font has been added. If you want to see it for yourself then just close out of that window and go into your Microsoft word to see if it is really there! I promise it will be or my name is Walt Disney!

Some other sites you can visit for free fonts are:
http://1001freefonts.com/ (Here you click on any letter of the alphabet to browse fonts, click on windows icon next to the font when you pick one)
http://searchfreefonts.com/ (Here you select a theme, or category to browse fonts, click download when you pick one you like)
http://scrapvillage.com/fonts.htm (Browse the fonts shown and click on the one you want)
http://www.fontfreak.com/index2.htm (Browse the fonts shown and click on the one you want)
http://www.fontparadise.com/ (Select a category to the left, then when you find a font you want, click on “download” right under that font)

There that oughta keep ya busy for awhile!

Remember, after you save the these fonts into your folder you named “zipped”, only the fonts that appear have a zipper are the ones that need to be extracted. If they already appear as two large T’s then they are ready to go. You can right click on those ones, select cut and then paste them right into your folder called “fonts”.
