Artist's Comments:

For the quilled hearts and green "flourishes," I cut cardstock into strips about 1/4" wide and 4" long. I folded each strip in half and used a toothpick as a tool to help me roll the ends of the strips in towards each other to create a heart. I secured the hearts at the top of the page with a bit of adhesive. I didn’t glue the rolled ends of the green flourishes, because they stayed rolled without it.

To keep with the "aged" theme of the layout, I used ink to dab the edges of each quilled piece. I used adhesive along the edges of each quilled piece to secure it in place on the layout. I also used ink on the torn edges of paper and vellum. The dark brown ink is in harmony with the dark brown quality of the photograph. The title and quote are printed on vellum using an ink-jet printer.
