At Scrapbook.com, we want every single day of the year to be a fun crafting holiday! So we get especially excited when it's time to celebrate National Scrapbook Day.
Even though we never need a reason to celebrate the amazing art of scrapbooking, National Scrapbook Day is a fantastic time to shop some amazing deals, take part in some creative challenges, and showcase some awesome creations that you've made.
What is National Scrapbook Day?
Mark your calendar for the first Saturday in May, because that's always when the magic happens. National Scrapbook Day (or NSD as we call it around here) began in 1994 and is now celebrated all over the world - which is why it's often known as International Scrapbook Day.
Whichever way you say it, or wherever you celebrate it, National Scrapbook Day is about celebrating scrapbooking in all its fabulous forms! We remember the fascinating history of scrapbooking that dates back to the Middle Ages, and celebrate modern interpretations with pocket page scrapbooking and mini albums in all shapes and sizes.

Our NSD Yearbook
For NSD 2019, we thought we'd put together a yearbook for the best of 2019 so far. Take a look at who made the list below!
Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game! Scrapsnstuf hit one out of the park with this red, white, and blue tribute to her little slugger's first T-ball practice. Using some papers and stickers from the sports-themed All Star Collection from Paper House Productions, she achieved some wonderful depth and excitement to accent her MVP in the center of the page!
These two have smiles for miles in this love-filled layout by Kristine Davidson for Simple Stories. Using some super sweet paper patterns and accents from the Kissing Booth Collection, she achieved an unbelievably romantic look. If these bright hearts and flowers accompanied by the gorgeous black and white wedding photo don't make you fall in love, we don't know what will!
Best Use of Rainbows
Somewhere over the rainbow, amazing Scrapbook pages like this one by Jocandy22 are made! Using some bold, vibrant patterned papers from Pink Paislee, she cut them into fun border strips and adhered them in an amazing rainbow theme in the shape of a star. An adorable family photo here, some ink splashes there, a few meaningful sentiments to finish it off, and this layout has us seeing stars in our eyes!
Most Likely to Go on a Disney-Themed Adventure
If you've been to the most magical place on Earth, you know that this layout by Nathalie DeSousa for Simple Stories captures that magic and more! This Disney-themed layout made with fan-favorite Say Cheese 4 components is everything we love about theme parks, whimsical fairy tales, and adorable cuties wearing mouse ears! The combination of one colorful photo and one black and white photo with a pop of color really makes us wish upon a star for our own mouse adventures.
Get the Look: Are you loving this awesome trend of layering paper strips to make a fun shape? It's easier than it looks!
All you need to do is pick out some paper and get to work cutting the paper into strips. (You can even use leftover scraps!)
From there, you can use fun border dies, paper punches or edged scissors to get patterns on your paper strips. Then, use some thin double-sided adhesive to stick them down on a 12 x 12 sheet of paper, one strip at a time, with just a hint of overlap.
Here's where the magic happens - take another 12 x 12 piece of paper with your shape of choice already cut out of it (a star, heart, words, etc.) and adhere it on top of your layered strips - INSTANT layered brilliance in your shape of choice!
This graduation-themed layout in black, white and red tones created by AngelBearMama receives top marks in our book! The rugged, torn paper pieces in a variety of patterns really accent the handsome graduate in the center of this layout. The letters and numbers in the background really give this a scholarly vibe. Our favorite part is how the embellishments match his graduation robes perfectly! A+!
She's got spirit, how about you? We can't help but feel the joy and wonderful spirit for life in this positive layout by Flóra Farkas. Using a combination of Crate Paper collections, she achieved a fun, fancy layout with good reminders and uplifting sentiments. The little flag embellishments remind us of a school pep rally, while the photo of Flóra with a big, excited smile shows her spirit!
Do and see things in life that make you smile! We're smiling from head to toe looking at the great photo, fun colors, and gorgeous patterns in this layout by Ashley Horton. Happiness is bursting from every corner of this wild and free creation. It has a wonderful use of embellishments and die cut pieces to pull it all together in a memorable way!
Tip: Every smile is a reason to create memories! Even the simplest photograph of your son or daughter flashing a brilliant smile can create the most beautiful, meaningful layout. Their captured smile in a layout will make you smile for many years to come!
Best Use of Flowers
We don't know what's prettier, the bouquet of layered flowers or the sweet blue-eyed girl who is stealing all our attention! This garden of pretty pastel petals was created by Paige Evans using the Pink Paislee Whimsical Collection. The intricate die cut flowers are layered ever so beautifully to create an ombre effect in the colors. But truly nothing can compare to the beauty of the darling little sweetheart and her adorable smile.
Most Likely to Be a Mermaid
Some little girls want to be princesses, others want to be mermaids - this little cutie wants to be both! Go for an underwater adventure with Rebeca Ruiz and her daughter, the mini mermaid, in this colorful layout featuring Echo Park's Imagine That Girl Collection. Rebeca created fun layers of sea-themed papers, glittery sequins, and absolutely adorable photos of her little mermaid, all ready for glee by the sea!
Be lazy and go crazy in the hazy days of summer like this silly girl riding an inflatable donut! Mother0froyalty5 captures some clowning around in this tropical fun in the sun layout featuring donuts and Bella Blvd supplies. This fab little swimmer with her floaties and the fantastic smile just makes us want to dive right into the fun ourselves!
Tip: Love a particular photograph but the colors are clashing with your paper and embellishment choices? No problem! Try changing up the photo from a colorful one to a black and white one. The contrast will make an interesting accent and your photo will match whatever color supplies you're working with.
When you look absolutely fabulous, you scrap about it! And Caroli Schulz was really styling in this beautiful polka dot and shamrock skirt, which matched Doodlebug's Lots O' Luck Collection perfectly! Just look at all the fun she's having swirling around and loving life. We hope she finds the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
Tip: Don't forget to enjoy the little things in life - they oftentimes make the best memories, greatest photographs, and put big smiles on our faces when we look back on them!
When you have an adorable little newborn in the house, you take an endless amount of photos and create wonderful memories like AnyaL did in this darling layout. Using beautiful teal and yellow themes from Echo Park's Hello Baby Boy Collection, she captured so much love, joy, and sweetness that has us wanting to snuggle that new baby all day long. She even combined some imaginative pocket pages of memories in her album to create a true one-of-a-kind baby book.
This is where the magic happens and wizards are made! Doreena created a mysterious concoction of spells and potions all about the wondrous world of Harry Potter. Board your broomstick and get ready for a spirited game of Quidditch with this mythical layout featuring fun scrapbook papers and stickers that perfectly pair with photographs filled with wizarding wonders! We're definitely under a spell after checking out this project!
Best Summer Vacation
Catch some sun and Stay Sweet with BEA Valint and this beachy summer vacation layout! It's time to put on your shades and get out your swimsuits for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation that you'll never forget. BEA marked the moment with some super fun beach blanket smiles and some jumping for joy, all created with Amy Tangerine's Stay Sweet papers and ephemera. The fabulous, fun photos are bright and cheery, and work perfectly with the tones in all the accents!
If we dreamt about unbelievably beautiful things like this handmade stitched globe by Paige Evans, we would never want to wake up! We simply can't believe our eyes at the technique and level of detail in this worldly creation by the oh-so-talented Paige. Using inspiration from her travels around the globe, and her wonderfully colorful Horizon Collection (her 6th one for Pink Paislee!), Paige makes us want to pack our bags and explore!
Most Likely to Brighten Your Day
These smiling faces certainly brightened our day and we hope they put a smile on your face as well! Rebeca Ruiz's family makes the perfect subject for a giddy layout all about love. Featuring some truly unique and imaginative hot air balloons cut from Simple Stories scrapbook paper and smiles from the whole family, we are really feeling the love.
Mixed media in a scrapbook layout - genius! Enza Gudor for Altenew created this amazing blended background of swirling colors to match up brilliantly with Altenew's Live Your Dream-themed ephemera and paper. The depth and dimension achieved by cutting out a lovely sentiment and layering each of the letters in a unique fashion has us mesmerized. This right here is a work of art!
Tip: Don't be afraid to add some mixed media effects right into your scrapbook layout. A little bit of watercolor or acrylic paint, or even a glittery mousse effect with a stencil has a way of transforming a fantastic layout into an amazing one!
The teacher's pet always gets the most attention, like this super cute French bulldog from Elodie L. This is some amazing fussy cutting from some 12 x 12 paper in the Willow Lane Collection by Maggie Holmes. The butterflies are practically fluttering right off the top and bottom of the page.
Tip: Are you a pet lover? Then you probably have hundreds of cute photos on your phone of your favorite companion. Print a few out and make your own layout featuring that special sassy cat, lovable rescue pup, fancy feathered friend, or rambunctious rodent in your life!
Most Likely to be a World Traveler
Yvette Weber is certainly Chasing Adventure with this eye-catching four-box design layout of stitched, distressed patterns and fun travel-themed accents. Adventure is out there and, especially for her little canine explorer in the wilderness. The use of vellum as the center point of the layout is an intriguing touch that really ties all the elements together. This really makes us want to get outdoors and explore!
Best Holiday Spirit
This wonderfully festive layout dotted with pearls and plaid borders definitely has us feeling throwback vibes for Christmas time! Debbi Tehrani is the talented crafter making us feel merry and bright this far into the year. Her combination of Fancy Pants papers, as well as fun accents all around the edges makes this layout light up like a Christmas tree. And of course, we love the adorable photos of the young, smiling girl in front of a lit tree, holding her little Santa Paws helper.
This layout by Scrapgram5 may say 'No Drama Llama', but surely she jests! This imaginative little darling stealing the show certainly knows how to strike a pose and capture our attention. We are loving how the bright pink hues from the photos are recreated in the layered floral paper and accents. And who can forget that stylish bespectacled llama in the corner to continue the theme? We love it a llama lot!
Tip: Why choose one photo when you can choose a whole series of brillant shots? Take a page from Scrapgram5's book and create an amazing layout by layering a few great poses and then accenting from there!
Life of the Party
Echo Park says Let's Party, and that's exactly what little Katie did in this colorful layout by Lisa in Texas. When your birthday wish comes true, you celebrate! And you also create a celebration-themed scrapbook layout. All of the accents, borders, papers, and ephemera pieces pair together beautifully to surround a happy little birthday girl eating dessert for dinner on her special day. That's our wish, too!
Tip: Not a fan of hand writing on your layouts? Want to make your journaling or custom anecdotes a little easier? Type them up and print them out to be cut into any shape you choose. A little dab of adhesive and your notes are good to go!
The eyes have it! In this layout by Nathalie DeSousa, she showcases two of her absolute favorite little people, and a breathtaking, simple photo filled with love. Using some wonderful American Crafts and Vicki Boutin products, Nathalie created an astonishing mixed media background in blue to layer her die cuts on top of. There's so much love put into this creation, and an amazing amount of love shining from the big, beautiful eyes of the sweet little girl in the photo.
Best Use of Unicorns
Unicorns, and rainbows, and cake, oh my! We're so lucky to have the talented Jana Eubank show us that unicorns really do exist! Using a variety of super cute and fun Doodlebug papers and accents, she created an imaginative backdrop for a rainbow unicorn-themed birthday celebration! If this is what the end of the rainbow looks like, how do we get there?
