Travel Poems

A Day at the Beach

A sunburnt face,
Sand between my toes,
The smell of firewood
In all of my clothes
Tired and dusty,
Full of hot dogs and smore’s
A day at the beach…
Who could ask for more?

- Rebecca Curran

Breath

Tree, gather up my thoughts
like the clouds in your branches.
Draw up my soul
like the waters in your root.

In the arteries of your trunk
bring me together.
Through your leaves
breathe out the sky.

- J. Daniel Beaudry

At the Sea-Side

When I was down beside the sea
A wooden spade they gave to me
To dig the sandy shore.

My holes were empty like a cup.
In every hole the sea came up,
Till it could come no more.

- Robert Louis Stevenson

Playland

Climbing high, Climbing low,
I'm having so much fun,
I don't want to go!

- Barbara Sherman

The Thrill I've Found

Up, down, round and round
Spins and twists
Small hills, big hills
Slow rides, fast rides
Lights flashing
Music blasting
Children laughing
The fun keeps lasting!

Come on, come on
It’s time to get on
One more ride
One more hill
One more spin
Up, down, round and round
The thrill I’ve found!

- Melissa Sullivan

Wherever the Wind Blows

Wherever the wind blows
Is where I want to be,
There are mountains, canyons, and cities
That I want to see;
Let me chase the rainbow
To its pot of gold,
Let me learn its story
Before I am old.

Wherever the wind blows
To the furthest star;
I want to learn
What galaxies are;
From Mexico to Canada,
From home, to wherever be,
Where the wind blows
You'll find me.

- Joel Bjorling

A Little Song of Life

Glad that I live am I;
That the sky is blue;
Glad for the country lanes,
And the fall of dew.

After the sun the rain,
After the rain the sun;
This is the way of life,
Till the work be done.

All that we need to do,
Be we low or high,
Is to see that we grow
Nearer the sky.

- Lizatte Woodworth Reese

Along the Sea

Come walk with me
Along the sea
Where dusk sits on the land
And search with me
For shells are free,
And treasures hide in sand.

- Author Unknown

Barefoot Days

In the morning, very early,
That's the time I love to go
Barefoot where the fern grows curly
And grass if cool between each toe,
On a summer morning-O!
On a summer morning!

That is when the birds go by
Up the sunny slopes of air,
And each rose has a butterfly
Or a golden bee to wear;
And I am glad in every toe--
Such a summer morning-O!
Such a summer morning!

- Rachel Field

A Sweet Slice of Summer

A sweet slice of summer,
On a hot a afternoon,

The perfect treat to eat outside,
You don’t even need a spoon.

As you take a big old bite,
Feel the juice begin to run,

Be careful not to eat the seeds,
You spit those out, for fun!

A slice of watermelon,
Just can’t be beat,

It is the taste of summer,
Juicy and sweet!

- Patti Weigel

Golden Sun

When the golden sun is sinking
and your mind from cares is free
when other you are thinking
will you sometimes think of me

- Author Unknown
