Trying to find out what font designs you can make with cricut...

  • Simoneeddinger
I'm trying to decide whether I should get a cricut or not. I make soaps and candles and currently make the labels with word and then hand cut them. I think it would be much easier to use the cricut and would give me more options (like making boxes, etc.) What I need from it though is to be able to print a design and cut as well. For example, designing with word is a HUGE pain because I have to insert a shape, then insert word art, then insert text boxes and edit to get the right placement and curving of words etc. This is fine, of course you have to do this at least once. But I can't copy and paste so i have to do all steps for as many labels that i want to print and it takes forever!
I've looked up some videos and it looks like you can design one and then just say how many you want to print. But are you limited to fonts? Or can I use any fonts Ive downloaded myself to my computer already? Are you limited to colors because they have those pens that click in and write the words? And can you curve words like you do with word art? (Like if I want to have words going around the edge of a circle). I'm just trying to see how limited/unlimited design options are or if i would be better off to suck it up and hand cut items and just purchase some kind of design software instead of the cricut.

    Thanks for your help!

Check out a Brother Scan and Cut on YouTube and compare to what Cricut is capable of doing in the design and print area.

I do not print then cut with my Cricut, it is two different functions as far as I can determine.
I would have to use my printer to print say, the graphics for a label. Then I would then have to take that paper image download it into my computer then thru my Cricut, to cut.
Honestly I have not done enough print and cut with the Cricut to do it well.
I find it much easier to use a Silhouette for that kind of work. Still a Brother scan and cut is better option.

I have only done outline drawings (and in my opinion not always very well, especially if you are doing multiple images, their pens are just not that reliable) for lettering, then cut (Cricut) that design out of colored paper. If you are also looking for good graphics to print then cut.....Cricut is not it! IMHO

The Brother scan and cut would allow you to scan your image (titles, graphic shapes, solid designs etc.) into the machine, then cut around that image.

There are options out there faster and better than hand cutting!!!
