Vellum vs. Transparent paper?

Alright this may seem like a very weird question but is there a difference between vellum and transparent paper. Some places I have shopped have one or the other. I am not sure if they are interchangable terms or not. I thought that the vellum was more glossy than the transparent paper that I purchased the other day at the store and then I went to look and order online and they just had vellum...I am confused!

Transparencies are clear see-through and vellum is more of a frosted see-through. Hope that makes sense, best way I could think to describe it.

Transparencies are like sheets of plastic with printing on them. Vellum is a type of paper. It can be printed, frosted and embossed.

Transparencies are like page protectors (but more rigid. You know, like film from x-rays or negatives.

Vellum is paper which is treated to make it translucent. Not clear but somewhat see thru--think tracing paper...but vellum comes in many colors, textures, embossed etc.

Both have inherent challenges for printing and adhesion but are well worth the effort!
