Making Memories - tool kit II

I just purchased the Making Memories Tool Kit - II. However there were no instructions for anything in the kit. Being a new scrapbooker I was trying to put small eyelets on tags and I'm not sure which tip to use. I used several and they all split the eyelet or left it with sharp edges. Can someone tell me what each of the tips are used for? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks

First, use the middle size hole punch to punch a hole in your paper. Then set the eyelet in the hole and turn it upside down (let the round side face your completed side, if you know what I mean). Take the "metal stick" in the kit (it should have a flower shape on the end). Connect the flower shape into the eyelet (it will sit in place) and then hammer it down. The back of your eyelet will look like a flower and the front will look like, well, an eyelet.

i know what you mean, nothing comes with instructions!! eyelets look nice, but i barely use them b/c they are a pain in the b*tt...lol but just punch your hole for it where you want it, take the eyelet and push it through the paper, (the smooth, beveled side should be on the front of your lo), turn your page over and put the eyelet tool centered over the eyelet backing.you should kind of feel it grab a bit. take your hammer and tap firmly a few times. dont strike it like you'd strike a nail in a wall, or you'll flatten your poor little eyelet into a pancake! and thats really it, turn over and admire your handy work!

Thank you for your help. I have tried it and it works but doesn't make a really tight fit and if I hit it again it splits the eyelet, is that normal? Should the backside be flat against the paper?

    Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for your help. At least I know which tip to use for sure but I'm still either not getting it flat against the backside of the paper or I split it. I will keep trying, maybe it just takes practice to get it right.

    Thanks again

mmm, ive never actually split the paper, i wonder why its doing that? what are you using to cut the hole with? is it a special hole punch? if so, it may be too big for the eyelet. i usually just use an xacto knife and poke through, like i said they are kind of a pain...but the eyelet should fit snugly, and it should take a little work to get it in the hole.if the hole is too big, your tools and the eyelet will just damage the paper. try using an xacto if you have one, or something else really small and pointy. then try with the eyelet tool. let me know....

No, it is not splitting the paper, just the eyelet is splitting but it is not fitting tight on the paper, it is sticking up and the edges are sharp.

I gentley hammer the backs of the eyelets after I set the eyelet to make the sharp edges lay flat to avoid sharp edges that will tear my papers.

I have 3 different eyelet setters MM being 1 of them and so far I like the Crop-O-Dile the best, 2nd best is the Karen Foster Clikit. Other than the Crop-O-Dile most setters make noise. The silent setter works best on soft metals and NOT the MM's eyelets. MM has the hardest metals for their eyelets which make them the hardest to set properly even using their eyelet setting tools.
