Re: Tool Kit I

I decided to start scrapbooking about two years ago and I received a Making Memories Tool Kit in a nice silver metal case. Okay, so now I'm really getting started and I want to use my tools. I think it is a Tool Kit 1, because I saw the Tool Kit II and my kit has different tools in it. However, I need help in using it. It has a hammer, pliers, tweezers needles, setter, two different thingamajigs and a pointed object...ten items in all. Please,tell me what the tools are for (setting eyelets and brads, I think), but I want to learn how to use the tools.

I learned how to use eyelets. Checkout the post on eylets and brads. I posted it about 2 weeks ago.

I found a photo of a Tool Kit Deluxe that had the following items in it:
* craft knife (for cutting chipboard letters, trimming paper, etc.)
* 6 crafty knife replacement blades
* glue pen
* hammer (for hitting the eyelet setter and hole punch)
* hole punch with 3 head sizes (use this tool to punch a hole in the paper before setting the eyelet.)
* universal eyelet setter with 4 different heads (put the eyelet in the hole, with the fat side on the front of the page and the thin metal side on the back. Insert the right size setter into the back of the eyelet and strike with the hammer.)
* tweezers
* set of 4 needles – 1 large, 1 medium, and 2 small
* paper piercer deluxe (Use this took to make a small hole for brads, etc. If you don't make a small hole, you might tear the paper while poking a brad through the paper.)
* stylus (This is used for embossing. Put cardstock over a stencil, with light from light box shining through from below, lightly rub the stylus over the paper from the back side. When you turn the paper over, it will have a raised design.
* 6” metal ruler
* black setting mat (use this mat with the hole punch, paper piercer and eyelet setter.)

I'm a beginner myself. I'm sure there are others than can give you more insight. If you have more questions about the tools, try snapping a photo of the tool, uploading the pic to your gallery and linking to it on the forum. I'm sure someone will recognize it and be able to give you more information than I can offer.

I have this and love it! Mine does not have the stylus, craft knife or setting mat....

Here is what mine has:

paper piercer
tweezers
eyelet setter with 2 interchangeable heads for different sized eyelets
pliers
two needles for paper
hammer
punch (for eyelets)

Mine came from someone who no longer needed it so I had to buy the piercer, needles, and tweezers. I also went out and bought the eyelet setting mat, and I keep it in the tin.

I have this kit as well and love it! I learned how to use it by trial and error. It didn't take me too long to figure it out. I also went out and bought the setting mat. It's not that expensive and worth every penny (IMO).

Here is the one I own. Oh, and the interchangeable pieces are for the hole punch, not the eyelet setter. My mistake!
