Definitely cardstock. patterned paper just seems too much sometimes.

I have used both. I like plain cardstock like the ones with BG and Cosmo papers...they look "old" and "distressed"...I haven't found a plain cardstock other than those that I really like yet!

I'm curious/confused, do you mean cardstock that MATCHES Basic Grey and cosmo pp? I don't consider any of BC cardstock.

Depends on what I'm scrapping. But I tend to start with a plain base.

I've used both, but have to admit to being a PP fanatic! When I use PP for the base, I try to mat the photos in a solid cardstock. That gives the whole LO a little more weightiness.

I think she may be talking about the solid colors that come in the BG pack that are distressed. I love using those as my backgrounds too and run out too quickly!

I prefer to start with PP, but I ALWAYS mat in plain CS to give it an accent color and to not draw the eye directly to the pp.

I always use cardstock, although sometimes it is completely covered in pp or other solid paper/cardstock.

I have used pp most of the time, but I've been noticing that a lot of the lo's that I really like are cs background, and pp is used on the mats and accents, so I'm beginning to change.

I think if I have anything that could be identified as a signature or style it would be that I almost always place my page on a piece of cardstock and leave a 1/4 border around the whole lay out. To me, it frames it in and leaves a finished look.

I do both, but hte pp has to be subtle so it doesn't make it hard to see the pictures.

I usually start with cardstock for the weight and then use patterned paper in my lo. Sometimes I'll use patterned paper as my background, then I might mat the pics to make them pop.

Most of the time it's CS, but occasionally I find a muted/distressed PP that doesn't overwhelm the layout as a background.

Interesting....I was going to reply patterned paper . But then I went and looked at my gallery. To my surprise, it looks like I use mostly CS as the base!! Pretty sad that I don't even know what I use most.

I usually use the textured CS for my base, then layer other colors/textures of cs and pp for the rest of the lo.

If it's something like Cosmo Cricket or BG or Crate Paper , I'll probably won't use cardstock at all. Other than that, most of the pp I use is thinner than those companies so I use cardstock.

I think she meant the solids that come with the packs:)

I've used patterned paper as my base, but I mainly stick to solids papers (like the solids in BG:) or solid colored cardstock.

One of the big issues for me using paper other than cardstock is that I don't like the flimsy feel of it. I like to use carstock or the thicker papers for a sturdier base:)

I got back and forth. Of my last 4 layouts two had pp background and 2 had cs backgrounds. Some pp is only good for backgrounds. Like the one below that I used on a LO recently as the base.

I tend to use a full sheet of patterned paper or a combination of patterned paper s as a background. When I use solid cardstock, most of it gets covered up with patterned paper .
A tip: when I use patterned paper , as opposed to patterned or solid cardstock, for a background, I adhere it with mounting tape to a piece of plain white cardstock for support.

I usually use cardstock because I have a bad habit of covering all the blank spots with stickers and stuff. I wish I used more patterned paper though because it's so pretty!

Cardstock because it's not as flimsy. Though sometimes I end up covering the whole thing in a pattered paper.

Maybe I'm missing something, because I'm a BG fanatic and always buy them in the pack and I never find any "solid" colors of cardstock.
Now I will need to look through my stacks again and see what else I have I didn't realize

mostly cardstock.. PP is too flimsy to hold everything it seems.. now the card stock might be almost completely covered on some LO's but I usually start with CS.

depends on the pp, but mostly I start with cardstock. Sometimes the pp isn't terribly busy, and lends itself to being the base but usually not.
