I just wondered how and where you store your albums? Many of you must have over 50 albums...myself I only have four. One (not necessarily the same one) is on the coffee table and the others are in a drawer in my craft room.
Just wondered what you all do with yours?

I got a Billy bookcase from IKEA this summer and it holds all my albums in the playroom/ office. The shelves were deep enough for my albums and the entire bookcase holds MANY albums without bowing or tipping. I have a ton more room too!! I think I got the five shelf bookcase.

I have about 15 12x12 albums that are sitting nicely on a 4x2 Expedit shelf that I bought from IKEA. I LOVE that shelf because it is the PERFECT size for these albums. The shelf also holds a bunch of my other scrapping goods. Thinking of getting another one as my collection is growing.

I got an industrial rack to hold mine (over 50). Since I chrono scrap and sometimes I have 4 or 5 albums per year + I do special albums for birthdays, school years, etc., I will have to eventually put #3-4 albums in the back and #1-2 of that year in the front of them (the shelf depth will hold 24"). I use 3-ring binders and have the binders marked using clips with the year, dates plus the # of the album, so this system will work for me in the future. Hope that makes sense.

I second the Expedit bookcase from Ikea....I have 2 of them and they are perfect for storing 12x12 albums. The shelves are deep enough so that the albums fit and don't hang over the edge.
I also use one Expedit for storing my chipboard and punches etc. in baskets.

Remember to store them standing up; not laying down. I have an acrylic sheet I put over the tops of mine to help keep dust out of the books.

Right now they are in a wooden rack (in my room) from a friend, but we are buying two large expedits for in our living room around the tv, and the scrapbooks will go there. The kids like to look at the books, but I don't want them in my room!!

I don't know about this; I have a three-ring binder that's been standing up for just a few months and the bottom outside corners of the pages are already getting curled from standing up.

I have a bookcase from Target that I purchased years ago that fits my 12x12 albums just right. I keep the bookcase in the living room so that the kids can get to the albums whenver they want.

I have three scrapbook albums only one of them is in use of right now. But soon the other two will be in use for layouts. I put them in a tall shelf united with doors I got from Wal Mart few years ago. I keep most of my photo albums in there too. I like the door feature on it. It keeps my stuff from getting dusty. I have clean the other shelfs to make more room for my other scrapbook albums in the future.

I wanted a storage space outside of my scrap room so that people would have easier access to the books. I found a large six foot tall shelving system at Hobby Lobby. It has five shelves that hold about 10-14 albums per shelf. I have awhile to go before it is full.

We have a pine bookcase but the albums stick out. I want an Expedit system too, but we have nowhere to put it so that won't be happening.

I keep mine in the entertainment center and they are standing up. When they were in storage for a year they were laying flat and the left impressions in the page protectors.

Most of mine are on an industrial strenght shelf in the basement, near my scrappy area. My mini-albums are upstairs in the living room on a little shelf. I would love to get an Expedit system for down here to hold my albums and my boys' art supplies (maybe even get the table piece so they can have a space to be crafty) but that won't happen anytime soon. Part of that is because the nearest IKEA is 4 hours away and we barely got a simple desk home in our car...can't see how we'd get the size I want home without a different vehicle! But I'm going to have to figure something out soon because I'm running out of space on the shelves...

I don't keep scrapbooks. I give them away to my daughters, relatives and my older grandson, friends, etc. I keep the memories in my heart. Now, this is to change a little bit this year. I want to make BOM for my daughters so they can have something about me..but again, I am going to give them to them!

I have them on the bookshelf in my scrap room. Of course I made sure when I bought that shelf that it was deep enough to do just this. Also, I've probably given half the ones I've made away - so someone else has to worry about it.

I use the 3D ring binders and those need about 20" deep shelves or they hang over the edges. Will the Ikea shelves work with them?

Yes, Henri, I have the Expedit shelves from Ikea and I use the 3 ring albums from We R Memory Keepers...they fit well!

The shelves are actually 15 inches deep (I just measured them)

That is good to know. For some reason I thought my 3-ring 12 x 12 were wider. So good to know.

Unfortunantly right now they are all in big plastic totes, b/c we have moved to 4 different states in the last 6 years (military). But we are finally settled, so I will be looking out for some shelving!

I bought an old travel trunk and redid it up. Now I use it as a coffee table. Inside it holds between 20-25 albums of various sizes and it has a shallow wood section at the top that I keep my special items like mini albums, fancy cards, exploding boxes, etc. I LOVE it.

I have 26 finished albums (and like 10 mini-albums) and I've already bought 41 more for the projects I have to get done before leaving this world, lol! Being 61 I better hurry
I have a couple of bookcases that are 11" 1/2 deep. I also have those shelves with two sides that you assemble and pile up (I get them at Target and/or K-Mart)and I'm in the process of buying more (17 more...) to hold the albums after finished 'cause, obviously, they take more space than when empty.

They're mostly sitting on a shelf too small for them and on the coffee table. But I'm thinking about getting a bookshelf for them.

For my 60th b-day (2011) my kids took me to Disenyworld for 6 days (I waited 52 years for that dream to come true).
It' was a surprise till the very last moment.
It's a great 60th b-day present... (hint, hint)
Hope your family will read this...
LOL!

This is more along the line of "where" instead of "how", but I thought I'd pass it on anyway. Before I converted my guest room into a scraproom, I store my albums on a bookcase in my guest room. I even had a little framed sign that said "Feel free to browse". I can't tell you how many times someone commented that they looked through my scrapbooks during the night. One even said she didn't get a lot of sleep because she started looking at one album and couldn't stop until she'd looked through them all.

That is such a wonderful idea for your guests. I think I will give that a try. People very rarely visit my scrap room and when they do they seem very intimidated like they don't want to touch anything. In a guest room they feel a little more comfortable. Thanks for that idea!
This is how I store mine now. The Expedit shelving from IKEA are the perfect size for 12x12s.

Ellenvannin,
Its not a surprise well perhaps to hubby but for my 60th we are going to Barcelona x
We went to florida in 06 and I think I was the biggest kids there. We took youngest daughter her hubby and two grands. I'd go again tommorrow if I could I bought a fantastic Tinkerbell album from Main Street a big bigger than 12 x 12 and lots of embellies too.
dwelch, what a good idea your little sign is people don't like to touch do they? but thats a good idea I may have to try..
Ollehar.. I'm in the process of convincing my hubby we need those shelves too x

WOW! Congrats! I would love to go to Spain (and the whole Europe too!) I love traveling.
Well, I was the biggest kid when I went to Disney. I started dreaming of that when I was 8. Then, 52 years later, I arrived to Magic Kingdom, on my b-day, to have a special breakfast with the princesses at Cinderella's Royal Table in the castle, 8:30 am, only a few other people and me getting in... I stood in the middle of Main street looking at the castle for the first time... and started crying non stop. Even with very dark sunglasses it was so obvious that I was crying that one of those employees who are there taking pics came to me, asked me to remove my glasses and took a pic of me with the castle in the background, "because I want to capture your emotion", she told me.
That was a truly magical moment for me.
Thanks to my kids, they are awesome!
The breakfast at the castle was also a surprise that they revealed to me the night before, when we were already at Disneyworld. I never expected that. I told Cinderella about my 52 years long wait and she had tears in her eyes. Later that day, during the parade, she saw me and said "I remember you"...
Have a nice day.

If you don't have room on the floor, you could always buy or make a very wide shelf to go above a couch or another piece of furniture. Just make sure it is anchored to studs.

We took 2,843 pics on that trip to Disney (we went again last Dec. for 2 days for the X-mas event and took 422 pics...) I'm really bad at selecting which photos are not worth scrapbooking. I love all of them. Anyway I selected about 1,800 and I'm still in the process of getting them printed. I placed an order for 100 last Saturday. It will cost a fortune to print all of them at the same time so I wait for those offers where you get them free, paying just for the shipping. I still have to get 214 printed. Then I will go through all of them once more and I know I MUST leave a lot out of the albums so I'll make a second selection. Then I will start scrapbooking them. That's why I made the covers of the albums I posted earlier.
On the other hand I want to finish my 2012 b-day album and the one about my "second" wedding that is still unfinished before starting the Disney's ones. I've started a new "routine" last year. Whenever there's an event I stop the project I'm working on and make the album for that event, but problem is that most of the events in my family happens between Oct. and Dec. My b-day, Halloween, my daughter's b-day, Thanksgiving, and the Holidays. So I'm still working on my b-day album and should finish the other ones to go back to the "2nd wedding" project before March when my son'd b-day is... I need Santa's helpers, lol.
I'm answering your pm's now.
Thanks.
