Welcome!!!

I'd like to offer few places to begin your "scrap journey".....

First and foremost, Rule Number One.

There Is No WRONG!!!

Your pages are just that - YOUR pages. This isn't a race, it's a journey....a journey towards capturing memories and moments that are important to YOU!

Whether you scrap in chronological order, or scrap what pics the mood strikes. Whether you're a fan of simplicity, or you must have the latest and greatest...

It's YOUR work. Be proud of it!

There IS The Janitor's Rule #2, tho. Don't Bleed on the Bazzill . If you cut yourself. Which of course I never do.

There are a couple of useful pages on the site to help you get started. In the Superstore, there's a list of suggested items:

Beginners Page

Even if you don't purchase these specific items, it's a good quick reference for what you need to get going!

A more in-depth look at essentials is found in this great article by Jill:

Essentials List

Not only what you may need, but WHY....

There are also a couple of spots around the neighborhood that you might find helpful in getting around Scrapbook.com, as well:

New Users Forum

My Place Tutorial

So, sit back, explore, and enjoy your journey! There's no such thing as a silly question - and your neighbors are here to help!

Hey everyone I'm really new at this, can someone tell me what the best adhesives are and pardon my ignorance.....what is a cropping party?

Hi Scrappinmyson! Welcome to the neighborhood. The best adhesive for you comes down to personal preference. I've found that what one person likes, another person can't stand! My favorites are a tape runner and glue dots/glue lines, my Xyron 150, my Zig glue pen for touch ups and small spots, and pop dots. I use them all, depending on what I am adhering.

A cropping party is when a group of scrapbookers get together and crop their own pages. They often meet at a lss (local scrapbook store ) or at someone's house. They are very social, and always seem to involve food!

Hi Scrappinmyson! There is no ignorance here. We are all here to help one another and we are glad you have joined our neighborhood. Everyone here is a friendly bunch!

Everyone seems to have their own opinion of what the best adhesive is and I am counting on "everyone" to jump in and tell you theirs! Mine is Xyron (LOVE the X and the 500 model!) I also use basic plain doublesided photo mounts (in a box of 750 for between $2-4).

Cropping parties are where people gather to spend a bit of time working on layouts and learning/teaching new techniques. Many LSS's and Michaels too have coprring nights. They are worth going to if you've never been to one. Some scrapbook companies, like Creative Memories, have workshops and crop parties hosted by their consultants. I believe Stampin Up works this way too. Those are great for seeing new product and learning new techniques too.

Welcome to the world of scrapbooking, like everyone that has replied to your post, I just wanted to say that my favorites are the 3M Scotch brand tape pen for repositioning photos and embellishments. I also use glue dots if I want demension and my Xyron adhesive machine. Just like the other posts that said a cropping party is when a group of scrapbookers get together and work on their layout pages and they share ideas and tips and techniques. Valorie

Hi there,

I agree that the best adhesives are the ones Creative Memories sells. They just improved their tape runner and it is great. They also have a mini tape runner, a photo tape and my personal favorites - the Frosted Splits. I'm a consultant and as of November 1st, if you order anything on my website, it would be shipped directly to your home. Come and check it out

My very first post! I am new too! I have never made a scrap page and have no idea how to start! I have had one in my head for weeks, but have not been able to get it onto paper! Stamping is so much simplier!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Yes, this is a wonderful site. Everyone is so helpful and kind. I love reading all of the helpful posts. You know, there are a lot of web sites that have a layout gallery of some sort. I know that when I started scrapbooking, that is where I got most of my ideas. I printed a lot of them out on my printer and put them into a binder. I also buy magazines and books for my ideas as well. When I have pictures that I want to make a layout of, I am one that has to research the type of layout I want to use. Right now I am wanting to make a coalition layout for my son's deployment to Afghanistan. I know what papers I want to use, but I am searching for the perfect idea for the layouts. So....I continue searching everyone's ideas until I find the perfect layout idea. Now you know, we all have blocks at one time or another!!!

I remember my first scrapbook that I made. I have a hard time not tearing it apart and starting over!!! I guess we all get better with time and practice. My daughter said that if I redid her scrapbook she would be mad. She thinks it is beautiful even if I don't.

According to your lists, I have a really good start on my supplies! My friends got me started with some cool scissors and albums, and I have been visiting some local scrapbook "yardsales" where I have run into some really good deals. My Mom invited me to my very first crop next weekend - I am excited!

I am new to the site and scrapping too! I started about 4 months ago when my son was about a month old. After looking at some of galleries I was like, OH MY!!! They put my little book to shame! Thanks for reminding me that they are my memories and precious pictures of my sweet baby boy!

Hi, I am new to this also, have been registered for a while but not posted much! I have been collecting things for years but just really got into scrapping about two years ago! A little over a year ago we started our own scrap club and meet once a month on the first Sunday of the month! It is woking out well for all of us, we work much more on our books, there are two of us who meet more often and do go to CM's crops every few months.
CM's NEW tape runner is the greatest!

Hello Everyone

I dapple in scrapbooking, I'm also new at this, and I love it. I tried to do a little by myself, and I think that my pages look to plain. I like a lot of color, not to drown out the color of the picture but just enough to make it stand out. Something on the order of someone saying Wooooo Haaaaaaa!!!!!! I hope this scrapbooking journey will help me be one of the best.

JosieG,
I have been scrapping only about a year. If I may give another newbie a huge bit of advice. Don't let yourself get so caught up in "collecting supplies" that you never use them or seldom use them. Not only is it a huge hit on your pocketbook, but you will also run out of storage space for all your goodies and supplies.
I made that mistake of collecting supplies left and right. After a year of scrapping I only have on album done. I have now decided that I must get so many pages done before I allow myself to buy anymore "cool supplies."
( And boy does SB.com make it tough!)

I agree. This site is a little overwhelming, but, just like with scrapbooking, once you start, it's hard to stop. Be sure to check out others' "My Place" and invite them to your friends list. Get a little community of your own started. It will help encourage you in your own scrapbooking efforts.

Hi, I am new here and also to scrapbooking! I'm glad I found this site...I'm going to need all the help I can get! I'm not a very "crafty" kind of person but would really like to start putting together some nice keepsakes for my 3 daughters! I have just started purchaseing some items such as stickers, photo safe glue, albums, and some colorful pages. If anyone has absolute favorites on anything they use for their scrapbooks, I would love to hear what they are!

I have a question don't know if this is the place for it but here it goes.

I don't understand what do you use for layouts is it cardstock or printed paper or both that you use to make the dimensional look on some layouts? Thank in advance

Hello! I am new to the forum. So far, I have completed two scrapbooks (both were for friends). I am in the middle of another scrapbook right now for my mother. I want to scrapbook more as I find it relaxing and helps relieve stress.

As far as I go, I'm 20 years old and a senior in college. I'm excited to be here, and can't wait to learn more.

Hi everyone.

I finally decided to get into scrapbooking. I have collected MANY pictures/awards/notes, etc...from all my children & their special days.
The boxes seem to be multiplying. Will read first and do research, have bought some material and will be adding more as I become more knowledgable. I plan on involving the children, that will be interesting!!!! LOL.

Everyone seems friendly. Hope to get to know more of you as time goes by.
Thanks

I love involving the kids. I have two ways I do this. One is where they paint a picture that will be used as the background and the other thing I do is hand them scraps of paper and cardstock and my punches and let them go crazy!

Hi everyone. I've actually been a member of the site for a while but I'm just now finally getting going on some scrapping. I had planned to make cards but I think I'll probably end up doing a little of everything.

I'm wondering where everyone gets the beautiful lettering on so many of the projects I've seen. How many different types of lettering are there besides stickers, rub-ons and stamps? I have some stencils, but don't want to ruin what would be a pretty card or page with ugly lettering!

Thanks in advance - everyone seems so helpful here.

Hello Everyone!! I am sort of new to scrapping...really just started last Nov. was when I did my first real page. I did a couple pages a couple years back and now im so embarressed of them! Well I have seen so many ask where to begin or what to do. I am no expert but from experience you just have to start! A good idea might be looking at the gallery or other user's webpages and getting a couple ideas and the thing is, they ideas just come..I find myself out in stores now saying "that would be cute paper" or things like that..its crazy how addicted you can be!! If anyone would like to chat or swap ideas please visit my site and PM me or reply to this one! Thanks!!

Hi, I am new to this...I actually made something as a gift, but at the time did not know it had a name...scrapbooking!!! People really seem to dig a nice layout in a frame of some sort. At first I thought it was kind of a cheapy gift, but it really costs money and time, I am glad people appreciate the art!

Yes, I also like to use pop up foam square dots. Once I used a glue dot that was too big, tried to cut it with my regular scissors, then spent 10 minutes trying to get the "sticky" off of the scissors...thus I went back to the store to buy teflon scissors. I have also used extra strength glue stick before, and it just needs time to dry.

They have them everywhere. Walmart has 8x8 and 12x12. Some are themed (animals, baby, wedding, garden, other are more general). I've seen them online and at Hobby Lobby and other stores.

I have noticed that you can get sets with the book and all at Michaels. They can be pricey but Michaels always has that 40% off coupon in their weekly add, I have bought a few kits on clearance from $39. down to $9. Can't beat that!

Hey everyone! I am looking for ideas for a prayer journal. Has anyone tackled that one before? Our pastor's wife had one and she was going to share it with me before they left (they got moved) but we didn't get to get together. I would love to do one but have no idea where to start. Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Wow, that's a loaded question. I guess the best way to answer it is to tell you to view the galleries to see what people are doing. Scrapping could be making cards (greeting cards like birthday, wedding, etc.), memory books or just pages to use your photos in creative ways. Many of us have boxes of photographs that would just sit in a box rather than get viewed if we didn't scrap. By scrapbooking, you add a story to your photographs. Some journal (write short stories to describe the photo), some just add stickers and embellishments (ribbons, flowers, etc.)

You can check out my site, I'm a newbie and use basic layouts. This site refers to layouts as LO. Sometimes the jargon can get confusing. Don't be afraid to ask. Everybody has to start someplace. There are thousands of pages posted and if you give it a try, I just know you will love it.

Just click on my picture and it will take you to my pages. Enjoy

Hello everyone,

Just a quick note to introduce myself since i'm a newbie tot the site.

I just finished my first album.
Although you can clearly see it's not done by a pro, I still think it's beautifull.

I started out completely wrong (didn't know exactly what scrapping was), but learned a lot during the process.

In search of tips, I stumbled upon this amazing website. Since I'm allready hooked on scrapping (and still don't know what i'm doing half the time) i joined immediatly.

I have a place to go if you want to go digital and just want to try some kits for free. It has several kits with everything you need to make your designs. Check it out at:
