alicia,
i'm not from austin, but we did have a lady come over to our house "soliciting" our business...i was so glad we took her up on her offer. she did a great job and i would call her again in a heartbeat.
it was great adding my ds favorite toys into his pictures and lot's of cloths changes...it was greatness!

We did one of those from growing memories, but I was not at all pleased with the way that the pictures came out. It was more like Walmart came to my house...I think that I am just really spoiled with Stephanie as our photographer. I think having pictures done at the house is the wave of the future...no waiting, kids can play during set up...WONDERFUL!!

Hi ladies! It's nice to know that someone actually knows where I am! lol... It really is beautiful here. Hills bigger than the anthills I grew up around, and actual seasons! :-)

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie. I'm from very south Texas, known as the Valley, (McAllen). Lived in Warren, MI for about 8 years and decided to come back. There is where I picked up scrapbooking. I love it. It relaxes me so much.

the one thing that i loved getting (and 4 years later still remember) was a bath and body works basket with lotions, bath gels, loofahs, hand/body creams....simply loved it! it was nice to take a shower and "escape" the baby blues.

i still remember who gave it to me.

I've thought about doing that. Giving gifts to the mother instead of the for the baby because everyone gives baby clothes. In fact, one of my friends has already told me that when my time comes, I'm getting a "Mommy Party" early on in my pregnancy just to celebrate me. Kind of like a bachelorette party for soon to be mothers...

yup...everyone is so caught up on the baby (even mom and dad) that we (as new mommy's) neglect ourselves and sometimes even (feel guilty) for wanting to "escape" or wanting some "me" time.

i gave a friend of mine a baby shower and provided her with the "thank you" cards ready to go by pre-addressing then (it was an envelope attached to the gift by the person giving it) and pre stamped by me. it just made it easier for her to send out the "thank you" cards.

i've never heard of a "mommy party" but that's a great idea and hopefully it'll catch on.

Hey there! Wish I was going to be down there to join you on Saturday. I was really hoping that my SIL would be doing some kind of a party for my brother's 50th - but instead right before the holidays they've decided to split up - so for now, no trip planned - bummer! But I have at least talked my mom into coming up for a week or two maybe in March. I'd still like to come down for a visit before summer, so if I do, I'll be letting you know - so you can book the date at Lonestar!!

Anyway, got to get started on my projects, joined in a circle journal here on the board, and have 2 other swaps to get mailed out in the next week! Everyone take care - chat with you later.

Houston here. I've heard of Brazoria. Not too far from here. Recently I've been dealing with a bunch of doctors in the area for work, so I'm getting to know the area pretty well.

I am SO bummed about this. It's September 14-16 and September 15 is a tax due date. So there is NO way I can take off work the 14th & 15th (a work for a CPA). I don't know how these things work. Can I just go to part of the stuff? I think I would still have to pay the whole registration fee. I don't know what I'm going to do!!!!

I'm part of a CKU-Houston Yahoo Group (two actually). I think the official hotel/convention center for CKU is one of the Westins that is attached to .....

THE GALLERIA!!!!!!!!!

talk about shopping, shopping, ice skating, and MORE SHOPPING!

Although, I probably won't go. I'm in a circle journal with some gals from the yahoo group (those of you at Lonestar on Saturday will meet two of them) so I might just meet up with them for lunch during the time.

I was planning on going to the San Jose Scrapbook Expo next month, but we are talking about going to Vegas in August, so I don't know. I know I'll go the Austin one again, and I might actually show up for my classes this time. I'd like to go to the San Diego Expo, and I can probably talk Josh into it as we have friends in the area he can hang with.

lisa, i've been to the gasc (great american scrapbook convention) and they have classes outside of the main floor, for this instance you only pay for the class and not the entrance fee, kwim? if you want to buy stuff (and not attend any classes) then you only need to buy general admission tickets.
i'm not sure if this is the way cku works, but hopefully someone who's been there can clarify.

Welcome to everyone!!

I am defintely going to CKU this year. I have my husband booked to take care of the kiddos! YEAH!!!! I have never been, but it is my understanding from others who have that it is not like a regular scrapbook expo...you sign up for the whole thing and go to everything...it is more like a conference . I do not think you can only go one day either. I think regardless of what you go to you pay for the whole day. I am trying to get some friends to go with me to share hotel rooms, etc. My mom is going as well. It would be great if we could all meet up while there.

I have not seen TX on the list of CK events for 2006.

Some friends and I were hoping to attend the Oklahoma one since it's the closest.

Have any of you attended CKU or CKU-M?

Prior to finding about the CKU in Houston, a friend and I had discussed flying to Boston to attend CKU-M. Though after comparing the two I'm not sure either sound appealing.

The CKU-M only offers six 90 minute classes over the course of the event. And if I remember correctly the CKU was 10. I searched through the class listings for the CKU that's coming up to get an idea of what to expect and nothing really jumped out at me and it seemed a lot of the time was just wasted blah-stuff.

I was hoping someone has attended a CK event and can maybe shed some light on it as I most certainly was expecting to walk a way with learning more than I'm seeing, especially for the money. TIA!

i've never attended either, but i have read negative and positive reviews (on these boards) of the cku. i guess it just depends on who you ask. i would really like to go and judge for myself, since i don't really "know" anybody who has gone, kwim?

We've had some weather happenings here. It's cooled off again. My mother's asthma has been kicked into overdrive and I pop over this morning to find her... CLEANING WITH BLEACH of all things. She called me later and told me that after she called the cat, "Chandra", she decided it was time to rest.

I've been thinking of a new name for myself. What do you think Droopy_Bluebonnet? MustardBuns? TangoTuesday?

i just had to get better use of my peg board....even though i had my peg board up i still had lots of my embellies hidden and not to mention my alphies....so i really "dreaded" using them because i had to dig through all my stuff just to use embellies and tiny stuff like that.

now that i've reorganized it, i have all of my embellies and alphies in little boxes on my peg board. i used to have lot's of "open" space on my peg board and now i'm using every little inch. i love that i can see all my letters and embellies, this helps me to "grab and go"... NO MORE SEARCHING through my drawers!

i've posted pictures in my gallery.

i've been told...and he's too funny because he's very loyal to his little 'girlfriend' abby. anytime we're at any store he wants me to buy her something, like a toy...i'm like ~you better find a job quick so you can support your 'little girlfriend'~.

abby's daddy once told me..."you have it so easy, you only have to worry about one boy...i have to worry about all of them." i hope you get it.

LOL, yeah that's funny. I used to have a little bf like that when I was in preschool. He swept off his front porch once, and his mom asked him why he had done it, and he told her we (me & him) were going to get married there, so it had to look nice. LOL. Kids are too funny.

He has the stomache bug that is going around. It breaks my heart when he is sick b/c I don't know exactly what's wrong with him. Since he is only 18 months he just knows a few words. He just learned to say, "mine and now." I should have fun with those. Thanks for asking about him.

I haven't been to the Texas post in quite some time. I think I will have to make it an everyday thing now. Everyone here is so nice and friendly!

i agree, these texas gals are very friendly and the houston gals are very chatty....love them!

as a mom, you always feel helpless when your baby is sick, especially when they can't tell you what they are feeling.

one of my coworkers is also home taking care of her 2 boys...they've been fighting this 'bug' for about a week.

My DH had it this past weekend, so now I'm hoping I don't get it.

i really hope you don't get it...because 'mommies' never get a day off..when mommy's sick she still has to keep up with the kids.

Try Airborne. It's this herbal-y medicine that you take before you're gonna be in a crowded public place (like an airplane or classroom) or at the first sign of a cold. It protects you from getting a cold or flu. I've tried it and it seems to work pretty well!

i've heard of airborne, but have never tried it...it think it was created by a teacher who was sick of being sick...pardon the pun..heeheehee...

for a while it was really hard to find up here in the dallas/fort worth metroplex because it was in such high demand. there was a news story on it, i think that's who created all the fuss.

Yeah, I saw it on a show about self made millionaires when I still lived in Austin. I've heard it works on hangovers, too.

How is everyone??

I'm sad to say that it is warming up here again

I had two whole days of sweater weather. We're back to shorts again.

We had some bad wind on Tuesday. It knocked out part of our light rail system, and of course... I would have to go through the medical center yesterday when they're trying to repair everything. A large metal sign in our parking lot was even blown off the pole! It was crazy.

I hope it doesn't get too bad by you.
