I have been considering attempting one of these. On my list to include so far:
Childhood: birth place, parents etc. Schools & any distinctive memories that go with it. Ambitions, hobbies, best friends.
Work: Different jobs & what I have enjoyed doing. What I would still like to achieve.
Family: I was thinking a compact kind of tree, otherwise I would risk this turning into a book of them!
Travel: Low down on destinations visited. Perhaps a 1-10 list of favourites. Places I still wish to visit.
Holidays: Different occasions & what they have meant/mean to me.
Favourites: Song, movie, meal, tv show, drink, book, scent, shop, washing powder (you get my drift right?)

This list is not exhaustive. I cannot wait to read other suggestions!

I"m finishing up my BOM. I decided to do an A to Z album of myself. FOr example, "W" was about my weight and working out, "Y" was about being mistaken for someone younger, "C" was about my childhood. I have some LOs in my gallery...
There's also an idea modeled after the book "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life" using the alphabet.

My scrapbook club just introduced this as our next challenge. Our layout information looks cool I can't wait to try it. It involves alot of cutting including the picture so I am a little nervous about that

I plan on doing an A-Z BOM, with each letter representing something about me - my likes, dislikes, a pet name, etc.

Basil started one in her gallery, and I really like the idea of it.

I have just started on a BOM and am going for a chronological - by decade only. I'm working in an 8X8 so I'm not too overwhelmed.
I bought my daughter an 8X8 album to do her own BOM that she can add to through the years. I think this is a great exercise for women since we typically think of others first!

Such wonderful ideas...what an inspiration

For my BOM

I actually want to call it "MY Life"

I want to do it in volumes as I know it will be to much for one album

I thought of doing it by age…but like the idea of decades

The Purpose
A celebration of my life
To capture very emotion
To showcase who I am

Some of My Ideas are

A list of things I would like to do before I leave this earth and why

My favorite color collage page

From Oprah’s Magazine – Letters to my younger self – 5yrs 13yrs 16yrs etc

My Favorite quotes, sayings

My favorite movies, I guess most lists of my favorite things

What I’ve learnt

Journal entries through the tuff times

Important people in my life – tribute /thank you ……I plan to send them a copy

My accomplishments

Personal pages about my life like “What I missed from not living with my father”

I love the 70’s

The year I was born

That’s all I have noted down so far. I see this as therapy!

What an awesome thread.

However I still do not see the theme I am working on in my album:

So often in my life I let the really cool stuff slip by and dream about stuff and never do it, so a couple of years ago I sat sown and wrote a list, "100 Things I want to do in My Life" The list included things as normal as "I want to get married to my soul mate" and "I want to have children" to some wilder ones, like "I want to Bungee Jump" and "I wanna have my own Harley"

The first page has my list and then as I do an item I make a page for it in a 6x6 album. This summer I got to add a "See Phantom of the Opera" page!!! Yea!

When I made my BOM, I included a lo of "My First Memory". Since then I've asked several people what their first memory was and how old they were. Most were around 3 1/2 or 4 years old. So I would add that to the list.

Our group had one of these challenges and it was hard. I tried doing something different than just my favorite this or that's. I have decided that I would add some stuff on from an old journal I had when I was younger, but I really went for more about who I am inside than likes and dislikes. Does that make sense?

Here's a link to my mini book of me!
BOM

I based my book just on things I love this year. NOt that it would change every year, but i wanted to keep the subject narrow, so it didn't overwhelm me so much!

I used chipboard coasters from a car dealer which I got at a yard sale for 10 cents! I covered them with paper, and used them for my pages.. they were perfect!!

Oh yes that does make sense, you took the words right out of my mouth.

I was adviced to keep a journal but couldn't write in it every day but as I went through some hard time and grew from them, stuff would come to me and I would write it down.

I actually started writing a book but I think I will use those page as secret journalling for my B.O.M

Should be interesting to look back on!

My mom is always scrappin' for others, and she's led such an interesting, amazing life and she told us kids that she wanted to share it with us somehow. So she's started a BOM. For this past Christmas, I got her a book by Angie Patterson on Book of Me fame... oh my goodness! While the pages depicted are not stellar creations, the ideas it gives you are sooo amazing! I'd recommend it to anyone. See if your library has it... I know mine did. I purchased her's at Michael's so that might be a place to check too.

This is a great thread. A BOM is on my "to do" list. I'm wondering what kind of album to do though. I usually work in 12x12 but I'm thinking something a bit more relaxed (less fussy) would be more like me....any thoughts/ideas?

I think a 6x6 or an 8x8 is perfect for a BOM. I have an 8x8 sarted for myself and it works great. I can fit at least 1 pic on the page, some journaling a small title and a few embellies. I have the satisfaction of completing a page but it doesn't take me an hour to do it. It's a lot less stressful than doing the larger lo's. HTH

May I ask how many pages you all might end up with in your BOM? I would love to start a book while I still feel like a teenager inside and childhood is still fresh in my mind! (does that feeling ever go away?!!) But I can see this project becoming something huge! So should I set a limit?? How many pages can you fit in a post-bound album anyway?

Whoa! A Creative mind gets a big charge coming to this thread!!! I am SO inspired! Thanks everyone! As I read your ideas about an A-Z BOM, I could hear things I've never thought of before coming together to journal about for each letter. Funny how we think we know our own selves so well, and then we take on something like this, and find out things we'd never known about how we feel or what inspires us, or makes us afraid!
Thanks so much Vivian, for sending me this link!!

This forum was a great idea. The ladies who have posted here have some really great ideas and it is great that they shared their ideas.

I love using Close To My Heart products and I am in a monthly workshop/challenge group. Each month the consultant does a workshop to teach us new techniques. This month I learned how to Emboss and I love the technique. The challenge that we are given monthly is based on there layout idea book called Cherish. It has about 50 2 page layouts in the book and they even give the cutting guide so you know how to cut the paper and lay it out on the page. The consultant picks a layout each month and then we have a month to use our creative juices and come up with a page using that layout and get points based on certain things used in the layout.

I am so looking forward to this. I am going to be uding the layouts each month to do an ABC book about me and my family. Since each month is a 2 page layout, it is going to take me just over two years to complete, but I am so looking forward to it. I am going to sit down and write down what ideas I have for each letter of the alpha. I have already picked what I am going to do for this month's layout. I have picked My Poetry. I did peotry in high school and took some time off, so now I have done a few more over the past few years. So I am going to print out my favorite poems and have my hubby take a picture of me while I am doing so. When I get the pages done I will make sure to post them in my Gallery for all to see.

I have never done a BOM and I am getting ready to go through a divorce so I think that will be my new project. I never got around to making a book of us either I thought I always would have time later. So in my BOM I'm going to reflect on my realationship with my husband and starting my life over. I know it will be hard but also a great therapy.

OK, I have a question for those of you who have done a "Book of Me"
How big is your book? Did you do it in one book or in a couple? I find that you can keep adding more page protectors but that it can only be so full right?
Maybe a crazy question but I'm just curious.

Ohh this idea really speaks to me! I have heard that if you actually write down your goals, you are more likely to accomplish them. This is a perfect way to record that. I have a list of "things I want to do before I die", but that list is still just up in my head. I may have to "borrow" your idea and get my list down on paper in a creative way! tfs!

Loving this topic! I actually have two BOM's - one about special moments/occasions in my life, and one about what makes me "me". There are some great ideas in here that I may be borrowing. I did both of mine in CM 12" x 12" albums - the special moments album is light pink, and the "this is me" book is a mulberry one. Once I decided to do my "me" album, the ideas started coming fast and furious (may were inspired by "The Book of Me" by Angie Pedersen - I highly recommend this book as a starting point for anyone who wants to do a BOM and doesn't know where to start). I had to start writing the ideas down so I remembered them. I bought a legal size expanding file and some folders, and made one folder for each layout I wanted to do. Then I starting putting the photos, papers, stickers and embellies into it along with the notes on the layouts into the appropriate folder. That way when I'm ready to work on it, all I have to do is grab my tools, album and file and I'm ready to go.

The ABC album is a neat idea. I never thought of doing it that way. I did an ABCs of Me layout in my album that was inspired by an article in a sb magazine. And I found another ABC of Me list on another website that I used to help fill in some of the blanks (I didn't like all of the topics in the layout, and some didn't really apply to me).

OK I have a question...Do we feel these "about me" albums need a lot of pics. Because I am the one with the camera there are few pics of me. Some just not many. While I was in the hospital my DH bought me a book about scrapping my life. I have been floating ideas, but can not find pics to go with my ideas.

Wow, I really love the A-Z BOM ideas! I've asked for some new scrapbooks for Christmas as I'm always running out of room, and I want to start organizing my LO's into specialized albums now. An A-Z album would totally rock!!!

I've done a few LO's that are in my gallery for my BOM already.

Sometimes it's neat to go back to old places and take a current picture. Like, for places that I'd worked at, I don't have any pictures, so I'll go and take a picture of the place now. Some places have changed a lot, some haven't.

Sometimes, words are much more powerful than pictures, after all, isn't that why we're scrapbooking? The pictures alone cannot tell the story...it's the words that we choose to go with those pictures that give it all meaning.

Wonderful ideas!!!
I tried starting a BOM several months ago but it got put aside for awhile for various reasons. With all these great ideas I'm going to pick it up again this weekend. I have not too many photos for some subjects about myself but a lot on others (like my always changing hair do's). Same with the memorabilia-report cards, certificates, etc. I like the idea of putting what I've learned from different jobs I've had...I'll put those with my name badges or scan in the badges and print them up. Fun!

What awesome ideas! I have been thinking about doing this but didn't know where to start!

After reading the ideas, I think I am going to make a book out of a little list I keep - called "Places I want to visit" I had never thought of scrapping it until now.

Thanks all!

I started a BOM a few years ago...it evolved into a book of everybody else! LOL One of my layouts I did was "Ten of My Favorite Things," that I used colorblocking and stickers, embellishments, photos, and in some cases hand drawings of my Top Ten Favorite Things...

I had a layout about scrapping, with a photo of me taken at a crop.

My newest plans involve my best friend of 25 years. I am planning a "25 Years of Friendship" layout and going to include photos of us when we met at ages 7 and 8, and photos of us now. (I won't post our ages here, you can do the math...LOL)

And of course I had a 2-page layout (that extended into more) for each child.

Oh, and when I was looking up the children's names for their layouts (which you can now see on my gallery) I got the meaning of my own and I'm going to do a page for that, too. I'm just trying to find the right picture of me. I think my best friend of 25 years may have to come out and take that picture, and get a good one of us together. Good excuse for us to get together again! Heehee!

I just saw a cool idea in one of the scrapbooking magazines, where you do a mini-encyclopedia about yourself. For each letter, you choose one or two things that start with that letter that can be associated with a memory you have, or someone you know, etc. For example, the author of the article chose "Abba" for A, because "Dancing Queen" had been played at her wedding. I am thinking about doing something similar for myself...I have so many ideas for Me books that I will probably do more than one.

Autumn Leaves put out a book recently called "The Book of Me' or "Book of Me" It's nice for everyone to list the many ideas for the BOM. So many ways to describe yourself to those u leave behind. When I start a BOM 4 my kids I plan on putting the the prices of way back when vs the prices 2day. That ought to shock them to know that at one time we could actually afford things on our own income.

I let the photo pick me, then I scrap it. I don't scrap in age order, I randomly pick pictures so that each page is a surprise. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what u'r gona get. I apply that concept into my LO's. I feel it is boring to see the same person page after page. My kids will be able to figure things out just by reading and viewing my LO's of me and other relatives. I don't have any particular style. There's no right way or wrong way, it's whatever u think is right for u.

I'm plannig to do a page of each word. some with photos and some whitout. for a start I'm writing about what evry word means to me and I feel like it is the rigt way for me to find all sides of me and to realy describe me as who I am.

I am just getting back to scrapping after a 2 1/2 year hiatus. It's amazing how much everything has changed. I'm going to do a BOM to get caught back up on all the new stuff. I'm so excited to find this list, because I had no inspiration on where to start.

ETA: "Things I've always wanted to know spoke to me, so I started a page of notes. I've as far as the title. Then I'm stumped!!

Great topic idea's ladies, thanks! I have 2 completed albums now, not many "photo's", but lots of the extra photo's...like of the table with pepsi cans on them, or stuff like that...

Thanks again ladies, the website from Angie Pederson is great too, as well as the Book of Me by her...I recommend it a great deal!

I have a swap going on right now to start a BOM! It's a fun, easy swap. 6 x 6 page double LO. You end up with 10 LO (20 pages) Each LO has a question on it for you to journal and a photo mat

Check it out http://www.scrapbook.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/14090...

BOM?!?! I think being young and having so many pictures from my childhood affected my having a BOM. I actually had to seperate it into decades...the first BOM is "The first ten years..." and the second BOM is "The next ten years...." Now I'm into "The Married Years...Book 1" At this rate by the time I die I'll have 20 or so scrapbooks to accommodate BOM's, Wedding Albums, Married Life, Vacation books, My Children, etc.... YIKES! I love this forum though, lots of good ideas for more pages....

I'm with you on the decade books! I would like to do a variation of BOM - BOU (book of us) about my DH and me for the kids.. My DH grew up in very different environment than mine, so I'll do a lot of 2 page LOs with contrasts. e.g. His birth vs mine; his schooling vs mine; his life as a kid vs mine.. I do have trouble finding his childhood photos (while I have tons..maybe that's a LO right there, mine with a photo collage, his with no photos.. because none were taken)! I think it may even help me know more about his childhood/teenage years!

These are so wonderful everyone. Thanks for sharing them. I've been trying to get my bottom in gear and just go for it. (making a book all about me) and I'm thinking of doing like chapters of some sort and all these titles listed here are just awesome and will use many of them I'm sure, while creating my book. I'm going to be doing digital as well as some traditional.

Anyway...thanks!

I finished my first page yesterday, I did my name with a 5x7 photo of me! It was fun, I am going to work on a few more pages today.
I was wondering what types of albums you suggest for this? Post bound, 3-ring?
I am doing a 12x12 format.
I have not gotten the album yet, but I am thinking it will be quite a few pages when I am done.
Any ideas?

What a grea thread of ideas!! I'm so inspired to start my own!! I was thinking more along the lines of just including the things about me as a scrapbooker, but now I think I'll use your ideas on my life history and such. Great ideas!

I wanna do A BOM on me soon. I have been taking some different self pictures of me, different expressions, places, times of day, moods etc.
I am hoping to use them for this. I am so glad I found this thread!!

I am just getting ready to start my very own BOM- I have a lot of questions though. How many pages should I have in total, should I keep color scheme or just anything? Can someone please help???

In the photography aspect of your BOM, try and get some action shots! You don't want to be remembered or the way you looked posing for the camera, but for the things you did and the life you lead. Enjoy

Everyone has such great ideas! I'm thinking starting a bom soon too. I just got the Angie Pederson book from my library. I love the journal starters. I started making a list of the ones I thought were interesting, but I found I was writing almost all of them down!

As far as number of pages, I guess it would depend on what you are including. I was thinking of having a different color scheme for each section of the book. I'm not sure how many sections I'm planning, but I may end up breaking things into more than one book.
