SORRY, WE ARE CURRENTLY FULL!

*If/when slots become available those on my waiting list will be contacted first. If an announcement is posted new members are considered on a first-come basis considering the requirements listed below.

Hello, my name is Robyn and I am the founder of Scrap Happenzz! We are a tight-knit bunch of dynamic, artistic souls who like to chat, create and help each other become the best scrappers/crafters we can be. We are NOT a mutual admiration society! Members are expected to give honest, constructive feedback!

Along with critiquing we do swaps, challenges and contests within our group. Prizes are awarded based on the democratic process (we vote) and anyone is welcome/encouraged to host any one of the above activities. Our goal is 100% participation in all group events and consistent participation in critique comments/suggestions. This does require a time commitment. We are goal oriented and happy to encourage each other toward these goals.

In order to participate you must have "Tenant" status or above, a gallery up and running with at least 3 LOs, a relatively thick skin and healthy sense of humor. You must also be committed to checking the threads on a regular basis, adding constructive input and submitting your own work for others to learn from and critique. Beginning January 1, 2007 I will ask that you post a minimum of 2 LOs per month. This will not include member hosted challenge LOs, swap items, altered items or cards. You may, however, submit anything mentioned above for critiques as well, or simply for our viewing pleasure!

If you'd like to learn more, please visit Scrap Happenzz on the web!!

Our threads:

SHCG Critique Only Thread

SHCG Member-Hosted Challenge Thread

Scrap Happenzz Weekly Challenge Thread *ONLY POST COMPLETED WEEKLY CHALLENGES HERE. Refer to our website for details on each week's challenge!

Anything submitted in any of the above threads is open to critique!

I don't remember if you already mentioned it, but it would probably be a good idea for everyone to add this thread to their favorite topics.

I'm not doing anything right now. I am reading 52 Scrapbooking Challenges by Elsie Flannigan and also Photography for Scrapbookers by Tracy White. Both are Creating Keepsakes books and I don't even have the magazine! The books are very good though!

I'm here - & Album is named but still empty

I'm working on getting back in gear after Katrina forced a home remodeling. Now that I've somewhat finished getting my Scrap Room back together, I need to USE it to make it more efficient.

I'm really interested in doing a Book of Me and trying out ALL sorts of techniques. I know some will "scrap out" but I've chosen to use a 12x12 top loading post-bound, so I can rearrange or simply throw out bad attempts. BTW, this is a big change for me 'cuz I've ALWAYS used CM strap hinge albums. For those that don't understand my meaning: if you do pages on the BACK of previous master pieces, you're kinda SOL if you mess up

P.S. Just call me Moi - I wish I could change it here, but oh well, long story.

Hello everyone! As you may gather, I've been around here awhile, however never actually in a critique group (I've been asked, but the groups always fell through & never got off of the ground.).
Most critique groups you upload any lo's (old/new) to your album in the gallery that you'd like so constructive feedback on.

For those who are wondering about me, I am 21 years old, married and have a son who is almost 2 years old. I also have a 4-legged fur-baby puppy Bailey (picts in my gallery under Bailey). I've been scrapbooking for years, however I wouldn't consider myself a pro/expert. I'm still trying to find "my style". I'm not 100% up-to-date with new techiniques and I'm not afraid to try anything at least once. I'm also very active in the swap-thing and hosting my own swap.
Right now I am working on: swap items, a chronological sb for my son, & my BOM. I am considering starting a sb containing my grandparents' stories as a gift to them, myself, and future generations.
I am usually on sb.com many times throughout the day, however gone for a couple days a week when I'm not at work (that's a whole 'nother story in itself, if interested PM me). If you've got misc. questions, I'm usually available to answer PMs.

Just a quick note (DISCLAIMER) : I try not to give useless critiques. I'll post the "useless" comments first and then give suggestions/ideas on how to improve later in the comments. Just keep in mind that my comments are my opinion and in the end it is your decision to use what you like.

Well, I'm 25 (I'll be 26 on Thanksgiving Day!) married and a mother of a one year old boy and stepmother to a two year old boy. I work a 9-5 job for major retailing corporation (I'm at work right now. . shhh don't tell my boss I'm online )

I started scrapping almost by accident. I was working on some gifts for my campers (i was a camp counselor during my summers in college) and I came across the scrap isle at the craft store. I made one as a gift and I was hooked! I stopped scrapping for a while, however, and got back into it (heavy!) about a year ago after I had my son. I'm willing to try anything and I don't mind looking foolish or messing up. Nothing is perfect! I'm still finding my own style, but I know these things:

I love using one pic or two pic max
I love putting BIG titles on pages
Ribbon is terrific!
I love patterened paper so much I almost don't want to cut it!
I have brads on almost every one of my LOs

I love constructive critisim (sp?) and would love the feedback (negative or positive). I look forward to sharing with all of you!

I am CMC, but use other stuff, too -

I am sure I have LO's i can post - I hate how long it takes!

I started my gallery and am ready to go!

Melissa...
put anything in your album that you want advice, help, constructive criticism or opinions on... Post a link here when you're ready for us to look at them.

Does everyone know how to place a link???? If not, let me know and I'll put the info in my blog.

I'm still waiting for a few of you to pop in here. Don't want to get too far ahead of everyone. I'd ask that everyone hold off until tomorrow to begin posting for actual feedback. I don't want anyone to get too far behind!

I am 23 and I have a career as a mechanical engineer for a mining company. I finished University a year ago and I am trying to settle in a new city. My boyfriend just moved in recently and it's going well ..

Jodi: I love your disclaimer and I want to state that it's also how I feel. Comments are meant to be constructive and not hurtful. We joined this group to get betterand find our personal style and grow. Critiquing and criticism is a part of that!

Kaleidescope (is it OK if I call you "K"?)

My dad was a mechanical engineer! He was head of the Steam Generator Technology Division of B&W Research for 30 years. I think I have his mind (I have quite a few of his tendencies). I truly believe that engineers are a unique breed (of course I'm biased). It's great to have you! Do you do alot of research (maybe for ventilation) or do you have more of a hands-on position? I could talk to you all day!

Sounds like you have quite a few projects ready for us to look at. That's great! We start tomorrow...

My girlfriend got me into it after years of nagging. I can't believe that it took me so long because I love it so much! Maybe deep down I could sense how addictive it was and knew that I'd have to re-do my laundry room to create my scrapbooking headquarters (I hate to paint). It's still not done... I've been too busy scrapping lol. There are alot of ironies in this hobby aren't there?

Yes I like to be called K ..

Sounds like we have a good group of people. Mothers and students and different careers. I like getting cross sections of people.

Robyn: Cool about your father. Turbines and steam was actually my academic major but now that I am working in mining, I don't really see any of it. I mainly design more civil and architectural type things that the mines need. This is only temporary and soon I will be back in a plant where I am surrounded by the buzz of machinery

I left a critique for you in the comments.

I guess I should ask...are we to post critiques to the comment section below the pict in the gallery or should we PM the critique to the owner of the lo?

I am 20 years old and I've been married for almost 4 months. But my husband has been off at basic training for 3 of those months. It's been really lonely but he'll be back in 25 days so I'm really excited. I currently go to a community college majoring in music performance (I play the flute) but I would like to change my major to early childhood development. I started scrapping about a year ago. The reason I got into it was because my husband and I went into a scrapbooking store to look at paper for our wedding invitations because I wanted to do them by hand. After about an hour of looking around I decided I liked the paper so much and all of the embellishments so I wanted to start scrapping. I had to take like 4 months off because we were moving around so much due to the army but since he's been gone I've started up again and I love it.

Ok I want to start with this layout. It's probably one of my favorites but the thing that bothers me about it is the lettering. I want to change it but don't really know how or even what to do. I am very open to any ideas anyone may have.

Good Morning Ladies

I didnt get back online last night, so missed some chatting

A little about me...Im 26, live in Michigan (so nto ready for the winter thats coming). Im currently working two jobs, one full time job in accounts receivable for an automotive supplier..(who would of thought in michigan eh?), and a retail job part time at night. So I mostly am online during the day right now. Im home a few nights a week but dont seem to get online due to playing catch up on errands, housework, and scrapping. Last night my goal was scrapping, and I got a few LO's done but no journaling yet. I was having such a hard time last night!

I have two furbabies, they are my world. And my bf of course, bf of 6 years. Let me introduce my babies because I will always talk about them

We have Vinyl, shes 5 and a lab/doberman mix. Although she appears like she may have some greyhound as well. Shes a rescue so they arent completely sure what she was mixed with.

Than we have Bandito, he just turned 1. Hes bulldog/shiba inu mix. Hes a handful! So cute, all white with black around his eyes. We got him 2 days before Christmas last year from a rescue as well, his mother was a katrina rescue dog that was pregnant when they rescued her.

We got bandito after some healing we did once we put our 7 yr old baby down last year due to cancer. Hardest thing I ever had to do, but she is in a better place. That is my guardian angel dog, Sadie, and a book to in her memory is on my 2007 list to do

I have wanted to start scrapbooking for quite sometime. A friend of mine does it, and we met during the Breast Cancer 3 Day walk and when I saw her book of the walk..i knew i had to do this!

So a few years later, I got sick of saying I was going to do it, and I finally just dove right in. So here I am

Hi Melissa, Phoenix, everyone else!

I'm up wayyyyy to early after a very restless night. I had a nightmare that one of my chihuahuas peed on my spectactular Christmas paper bag album after it was all finished. I'm not kidding, I really woke up in a cold sweat!! I'm much better now after some coffee, thanks.

First order of business today...should we add a few more members to the group?

I was thinking 2 or 3 more people. One person has yet to check in at all and I though this might give us some more room to breath in case someone finds out early that this particular group is not their style, or whatever.

I had so many responses yesterday that I could easily fill 3 more slots. I am totally serious about doing swaps and journals and things and feel more comfortable if I add now, instead of waiting until someone backs out (not that anyone will, just in case). It's a group decision, so post with your thoughts when you get a chance! These would be a select few for no more than a total of 13 members.

Erkieka and Phoenix both posted LOs for our scrutiny last night (you speedy little devils ) so make sure to find the links in this thread and post your comments for them in case you missed it.

Make sure to check my journal of infinite wisdom ( blog) regularly so that we are all on the same page. I'll be back on later with a TREAT for everyone !!

Oh, and make sure you add your new critique group member status to you siggy!!

I think 13 would be a good number. Just in case like you mentioned this group isnt what someone is looking for.

Thanks for all your doing Robyn, your awesome

I dont think Ill get any LO's uploaded till sometime this weekend. I work both jobs the next two days, boohoo!

I just learned there is a tool to help cut perfect circles, I could of used it last night!

there are lots of tools for perfect circles, Melissa! You definitely should invest in one. Tools are the best way to use your scrapping cash.

It's so fun to learn something new every day, isn't it?

I am "down" with adding some extra members - I think it's better to have them "in on" everything from the beginning rather than trying to catch up later.

I am debating what LO to post for critique - I am not usually very hung up on perfection and I seldom go back to "fix" something that wasn't exactly right. There's one LO I have that is super plain and I just need something more for it. I could post that.

I *do* have a name frame that needs help. I am going to post that one - hang tight and it will be up shortly.

Cajaya-That's awesome that you played the flute. I still really like playing I just don't want to pursue it as a career.

I want to thank everyone who has commented on my LO. You guys were of great help. I'm currently working on fixing it right now so hopefully I will have the updated version for you to look at tonight.

I think 3 more people would be alright but anymore would be too much.

I like the swap and challenges thing to get me motivated! I recently moved in with my boyfriend and have been having a hard time dedicating scrapping time. I used to live alone and I had hours to scrap. This is no complaint because I know some of you have children and I don't know how any of you do it

I have the same problem. My husband used to work at night so I had the evening hours to scrap but when he started working during the day we would come home in the evening and I didn't really have any time. Now that he's gone I have tons but I know when he gets back I won't be able to get a lot done.

awwww, you guys make me blush! I'm really enjoying every minute of this!

I was going over old LOs that I HATE and found one for your guys to get your juices flowing. It's page one of a 2 page LO (the companion page is in my gallery, I think I called it "sister dear" if you want to see that too).
Here it is...

It's wayyy to plain or something. Unfortunately this one is glued and I have brads through the flower and leaf, but I'm open to any suggestion (I can always start from scratch, yuck).

It also sounds to me like you guys are OK with a few more peeps so I'm going to go ahead and PM some of the girls that begged me to let them in yesterday. I'll keep you posted...

I could use some suggestions on letters.

I have a feeling the sticker mania newbies get has caught me.

Like robyn..i like the end letters in the LO you just linked us to. Stuff like that...how do you do that?

I have problems with letters to. That and journaling are the two things that scare me about scrapping.

I am on a VERY fixed budget, so I do alot of tracing! Those aren't stickers, I made the big "S" & "r" from a Basic Gray big alphabet that I have used over and over again. I traced the letters and cut them out with my Xacto knife (something you should have and practice with if you don't have one yet, I use it ALL THE TIME). I also traced some tags onto the PP that I wanted for the middle of the title and printed the little black letters out on my computer and cut and pasted all of that together! Whew!
I don't even use stickers very much, I don't run across many that I like. I do alot of downloading printable alphabets from the net. Check out ScrapGirlz printable Aphas I think they're really more cost effective as well, because I can print and use only the letters that I need (I crop the sheets in Adobe) and I can use them over and over!

My new mania is RUB-ONS! Lovin Wholly Cow and Chatterbox Woodcuts at the moment!

O.k. hope you all are having a great day! I'm off to check all the posts, and thanks one more time.

As far as letters go, there is a lot out there. There are a lot of great stickers, but that can become expensive. Have you every tried rubons? They are great and come in many different fonts and colors. Also, chipboard alphas are my favorite! They seem expensive on the surface, but if you get the "puzzle" like ones, you can use the letter and the negative. You can also use the negative as a template. The great thing about chipboard letters is that you can alter them in so many ways and they also add dimension to your layout. I also own a few letter templates. They are great, but take a while.

Erkieka , don't be afraid to journal. Tell your story girl! I usually journal in my own handwriting. Invest in a good pen and go for it. Zigs are good. I use a Marvy pen and I like it just fine.

Here are my examples:

Chipboard alphas are my favorite! I have BasicGrey , MM, and Joann sets. The BG already have adhesive on the back of them, but sometimes it doesn't stick. You should also try the chipboard elements - tags and such. They are great too!

I just got the Alpha Tin of letters from K&Company... not that I'm complaining 'cuz I did get use out of them, buuuuhhhttt:

The letters don't all match in size and it is NOT a complete set, i.e. missing letters.

They do however, alter quite easily with a few rubs on a sandpaper sponge and a few "snips" made the letters I needed from those I didn't. Plus I was going for a shabby look, so size didn't matter - (did I just say that!)

LoL Moi!

There wasn't an i or e. I think they may have made a mistake as those are very crucial letters. Have you thought about calling the company?

You usually get all 26 letters and sometimes you get like extra things like brackets, punctuation marks, etc. Chipboard is so fun...I just recently started using it.

You usually get the whole alphabet. Somethimes they give you some extra vowels. You can buy them plain (that's the natural color) or already painted.

Your welcome!

I decided to take a pic of the actual steering wheel in my car and cut it into the shape of an O with a circle punch. I'll post it as soon as I do it, but I think it will look different!

I am also on a budget and I make my own letters. I download a font that I like and I write the word on MS word. I then print it out and cut it out and trace it on patterned paper . I then cut this out and voila!

My gallery has a lot of cursive titles that I cut out this way.

I make my own chipboard the same way .. I should post some of my newer layouts .. I have been bad at that to show how I do it.

I'm back. The machine I'm supposed to be working on is broken. Our systems are down, but not the internet!

How do you make the cursive letters? I have always wanted to do this, but was afraid. Doesn't that sound silly? Who ever heard of being afraid to cut paper?

Yes K, we would all love to know how you make your own chipboard. And what font do you use to achieve those cursive titles? I have a hard time finding a cursive font that's wide enough to cut.

Well I got a pm saying you all wouldn't mind a few more people, and honestly I've probably bugged the heck out of Robyn to get in here when she first posted, I was a little late. But when I got the pm I was so excited! So i guess to tell you all a little about me...
I'm 18, a college student. My major is elementary education (I hope to teach K or 1st). I've been with my boyfriend (Brandon) for almost 2 years now (High school sweethearts) which for a long time I didnt think would happen to me (cause then I'd end up like my parents-- they're high school sweethearts). I don't have very many layouts done but I did just buy the Xyron 150 and love it so far, and bought some new rubber stamps. My next things is perfecting monograms!! I guess thats about enough for now. I'm really looking forward to all of this!

Welcome Jessica!

Your story sounds so familiar. I'm married to my high school sweetheart and my parents were high school sweethearts as well. I also just bought an X and I love it! I minored in Secondary education though. . .

Glad to have you!

Jessica is too fast for me, but say hello to our new member! We just got our last new member a minute ago...
Christy
She should be popping in at any moment.

That does it for new members. We are at 13 now, but I still have one person who is a no-show. I think we have enough at this point either way, so looks like this is it!

Welcome Jessica and Christy!! Glad to have you!!

Okay, ya'll I'll trade tips:

1. Has any one tried to alter stuff? I bought a ribbon box that is supposed to be able to look like this:
SAMPLE
But it starts out looking like this:
MINE
I don't get how the TWO dowels fit... are they just supposed to sit in the box... how are they supposed to roll independantly if they're not staggered in height?

2. For letters using MS Word here's a tip:
Using the WordArt feature of black outlined letters (usually the first sample), type in your title, letters or words then click Ok.

DRAG the right side of the word art box to the left and the letters MIRROR (they'll print backwards)

Then print straight on the on the BACK of your patterned paper . TaDah!

You won't need to trace and the Black lines are on the back of the letters where you won't see them!

Thanks so much!

I do love my Xyron !!! I bought these tiny starts and hearts just to try it out and I was so excited when I was done.

I have a layout that was my very very first layout I ever did- and its HORRIBLE! I am going to take some time tomorrow to re-do it and that will be the first one I post.

Any ideas for it though? It is a pic of me and my b/f, I have a card that he put into flowers he gave to me and our prom ticket. I was going to TRY to make a big letter "L" and then put ove beside it. I just bought red ribbon that looks like it was sewn with white thread on the sides.. and those little heart confetti things. Any suggestions?

Thanks.. and I'm happy and excited to be in the group.. even changed my signature already!!!
