Hello everyone! Welcome to the *Scissor Sisters Critique Group!*

Our group is now almost five months old, and we have become a very close-knit little clan of scrappy buddies! Our critiquers are very good at what they do - and we always love to help each other out and make sure everyone gets good praise, while suggesting great ideas at the same time! We have a lot of fun things going on here: a blog that we update daily (CLICK HERE), 2 fun monthly challenges (with prizes!!) and a new mini-challenge each week, hosted by one of our members, to keep the creativity flowing in between times! In addition to that, there's always some wonderful chatter going on here on the thread, and hopefully soon in our new, fully-fledged chat room (located in our blog!) We have plenty of excellent ideas in the works for this group as well, so be prepared for a lot of fun (and scrapping, of course) if you're interested in joining our Sisterhood!!

We are only going to provide a few guidelines for this group. The first, and most important is being able to give and take good, constructive criticism. If something doesn't look right to you - say something! - just try to leave a positive, constructive critique. Don't be upset with someone for giving you a critique - we all see the world through different eyes, so they're only giving you their opinion. It will ultimately be your decision whether to change your LO or not, but if you do, make sure you post the update so we can all admire it!

You must be able to submit at least 2 items / month for critique; you can always submit more, but the minimum for active membership is 2. These can be any item - digital, paper, hybrid - 1pg, 2pg, altered item, minibook, etc.

You must also remain active on this thread and in posting critique to hold member status. If you have not posted to the board for 30 days, your spot will be given to someone else. If at any time you would like to leave the group, just let us know! No hard feelings, we understand that life gets crazy sometimes!

We had originally been trying to limit our membership to those who were not already in an existing critique group, but we don't want to shut anyone out, either. We are now holding our doors open to anyone who would like to join our Sisterhood! The only requirement for participation in multi-CGs with us is to make sure you are submitting your 2 LOs and keeping active with us on the board!

We have upgraded our membership total to 20 members from the original 15. If you would like to join, please PM me or Amber (MrsVo) prior to posting your questionnaire (below) so we can make sure there is still a spot available. Spots will be first come, first served, as they become available (the list is refreshed the last day of the month).

The list so far:

* theBlondeBoss - - - - - - - Shaunna (co-hostess)
* MrsVo - - - - - - - - - - - - - Amber (co-hostess)
* Lynette150 - - - - - - - - - - Lynette

* Mom2CamiandReese - - - - - - - - Theresa
* Basketball Queen - - - - - - - - Tanya
* TxAllieGrl - - - - - - - - - - - - Allie

We would also like for everyone to complete a short questionnaire - "about me" so we can get to know a little more about each other. I will try to keep a short profile of each member here in the main thread so we won't have to dig around to find it when we need to. On to the questionnaire:

1. Your name / what you prefer to be called
2. Where you're from
3. Birthday
4. # of years scrapbooking
5. DH? Boyfriend? Girlfriend? How long?
6. Kids? Names & Ages
7. Pets? What kind? Names & Ages
8. Favorite scrapbooking technique
9. What are your scrapbooking goals?
10. What would you like to work on most?
11. Are you a member of any Design Teams?
12. Tell us one fun fact about yourself.

Well, that about wraps it up for the basic info! If you would like to join us, please PM me (theBlondeBoss) or Amber (MrsVo) so we can add your name to the list! We can't wait to make some new friends and get some new ideas!

PLEASE NOTE: If you have been removed it was due to inactivity in the group. The membership information states you must remain active on the boards and with submissions to hold member status. We're sorry but we need to make room available. Please try again join us again in the future - just let us know if you won't be able to keep up with us at any time! Thanks again!

Lynette - it's always a joy to have you around!

Danielle - I'm glad to see another "SANS" here with me!!

Heather - I'm interested in hearing more about chalking. I've heard of it but I've never done it! Would you mind posting a LO of yours where you used chalk so I can see?? Thanks a bunch!!

I have three layouts with chalk on them. I'm not very original so far.

Rebecca's Portraits on this one I just colored in the butterfly

Stuck in the Mud On this one, I colored in the quote stack, just to give it a bit of muddy or dirty feel.

Fun in the Tub If I remember right, this was my first time chalking. I just edged the quotestack, trying to give it a water feel.

I'm very original yet. As I look at this post I realize I've done basically the same, all three times. I need to get better at trying new things.

Heather, those are beautiful!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I especially like the bathtub quote! I think I'm going to have to go buy some chalk!

I know we haven't really finished assembling the group, but I need some advice on this LO:

http://www.scrapbook.com/scrapbook_layouts/showphoto.ph...

http://www.scrapbook.com/scrapbook_layouts/showphoto.ph...

It's for my wedding album so I want to keep it clean and simple, but I feel like it needs something. Any ideas??

Amber - the layout is gorgeous! These pictures are art and tell a story completely on their own. So, I think you could leave the layout exactly as it is if you wanted. I also love the hidden journaling - great job on that.

IF you wanted to add something, the only thing that stood out to me was that there was no hint about the story on the inside. Maybe if the title was on the page visible. I would think very small - maybe hand-written down in a corner? Just to give a hint of what was hidden.

That's just a thought. It is really hard to critique other's work, I think - it will be easier when we learn each other's styles more.

Thank you everyone for the advice! I'm going to re-work it based on the tips you all gave and re-post in a day or two.

Glad to have you join us Amanda!!

And I agree Lynette, critique can be difficult, but I love getting different perspectives from all the different styles in the group. Just from the one LO I posted, I got great ideas I would have never thought of on my own!

So, how does the critiquing (sp?) work? Do we post comments, etc. on here or in the gallery? I've not done anything like this, so I'm just curious about what our process will be.

When you want something to be critiqued, post a link to it here. Then everyone should leave comments on that person's LO in their gallery so everyone can benefit from the ideas. And remember to say something nice and something constructive each time you leave comments

Hello everyone! Hope you're all having a good day today! Just finished uploading a few new LOs, I'll leave them open for critique... I like them, I'm just not sure about them. My work is never as good through my own eyes! Let me know if you think anything could be added or improved! Here they are:

Life's an Adventure

Gillian

Well... I'm off! Feel free to start posting things for critique whenever you would like - we don't have to have all of our membership full! If there are things already in your gallery that you think need some help, you can post those as well, to get things rolling here & give us all something to do! Happy scrapping everyone!

It is a font... Called "Cooper Black". I print them out from my computer then trace them onto whatever paper I want to use. On those ones, I stamped flowers with purple ink on the blue cardstock to give it a little extra something (and to go with the flowers on her outfit!) A much nicer alternative to having a Sizzix or Cricut - just a little more work, but I won't ever have to spend 100's of $$ on dies or cartridges... I have 1000s of fonts on my computer!

Shaunna- I love those letters. You know you can cut your cardstock so it will fit through your printer and then print it in reverse...if you don't want to see the lines. That may save you a step! I really love your lo's...you have a GREAT style!

Either my computer's on crack, (which is probable), or the link doesn't work. It opened up my own blog. So I'm thinking the link will open up everyone's own blog.

Here's the right link:

No kidding guys... seriously. OK, Sabrena: you have an ADDITIONAL challenge - take a picture of your ceiling and post to your gallery so we can all ooh and aah over how cool - and thrifty - it is. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm always lookin for cool stuff to do to my house for cheap! Let us know when you complete that one!!!

OHHH WHAT A NIGHT! Just got home from a basketball game (I coach cheerleaders, if you didn't already know that!) Always drama... sigh. GIRLS! Hope all of yours was better than mine! Have a great weekend everyone!

Okay...here is a lo. I started it about 2 1/2 weeks ago, but could not finish it. It is a scraplift, but I couldn't find the right combo of pp for me. Also, when I scanned the lo...the black center looks a little funky, but it is textured cs so maybe that is why it did it. Thanks for looking!

Here's another LO I could use an opinion on -

Version 1:
http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...

http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...

Version 2:
http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...

http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...

These are pics since I haven't glued anything down yet. I'm going to write "Eugenie" on the label under the pic. Let me know which one you like better and also if you can think of a way to fit in the pink paw ribbon. Thanks!!!

Amber...these are both super cute lo's, but I like version 2 better. I think the quote in version 1 kind of hides the heart. I would probable use the ribbon as a top and bottom border to the patterned paper . Hope that helps!

Hey everyone!!

Just finished up leaving some comments on the layouts that you guys have added! Those are some really nice LOs, girls! And thanks for the pic of the ceiling, Sabrena - now I wanna know how you did it!

CHASITY! Welcome - finally! I agree w/ Lynette - you're def. gonna have to spill about CHA... I updated the main post to add you to the thread... Glad to finally meet ya! Hope you enjoy being a member of our little group, here!

Well everyone, my Internet's been down all weekend - I'm at my parents house right now, using their computer so... it's not our problem, it's the cable company - they have to come run a new line from the pole to the house... who knows when they'll get to it considering it's been about 6 degrees here all weekend! They have already cancelled school for at least 100 schools in Ohio as of 6:00 tonight because it's going to be too cold tomorrow! Hope everyone's staying warm where they are... I'm going to take advantage of being "cooped up in the house" and crank out some new LOs.... maybe.... I've been having trouble finding inspiration lately! TT y'all L!

OK I've decided on using the LO with the clear heart, but now I have a new problem - How do I adhere the heart?!?! I already put the rub-on on the paper and I want the heart on top of it, but whatever I use to make it stick has to be really clear so you can still read the quote underneath. Here's the pic again incase you need a visual:

You need glue dots vellum...It is a transparent adhesive that comes in a baggie type thing (not a box like the other glue dots). You may have to go to a scrapbook store ...I don't think hobby lobby or any of those places carry it. I love it and it has lasted me quite a while! Hope that helps!

Amber, the only way I can think of to adhere the heart has already been mentioned - vellum dots/tape or eyelets/brads

Hi guys! Sorry about the absence.... finally got our Internet back today so hopefully we'll be OK! (Thank God - I didn't know what to do with myself - I started playing some pirate simulation game I was so bored!!!!)

Left some comments for Amanda & Chas... Nice LOs, girlies! Oh, and Chas, CHA looks like it rocked! I am interested to see the tab/tag/pocket sheet you designed! Some of Rusty Pickle 's new lines look amazing - I esp. like the one called "MacDonald", I am drawn to the paper that looks like red/blue/yellow clouds for some reason!

Anyway.... it's below zero in OH. That's really annoying because I don't feel like doing anything! OH, btw guys - I don't know if anyone cares, but I was at Wal-Mart today and picked up a SWEET 4 oz. bag of assorted buttons for $1.50!!! There had to be 100 different buttons in there - all colors, shapes - there was even a purple one that had "Original" embossed around the outsides!! They were in the section by beads and puffy paint, where they just started putting "purse making" stuff (or what I like to call the "other scrapbooking aisle")... maybe I will try to take some pics of them all spread out tomorrow so you all can see what I mean.

Gonna get that challenge LO done here sometime... been thinking about it... but it's too cold to really have any brain function here, so... SIGH. Well, have a good one everybody!

sorry it's been so cold everywhere...it was up in the 60's here...very nice.

as for all the questions about the aluminum foil, I found that tacky glue(the stuff in the gold bottle) worked very well...and it's stayed up rather nicely...I tried mod podge, spray adhesive and tacky glue seemed to work the best...it took me probably about a week to do it, just because I was pregnant and was wobbly on my feet. I think I watered the glue down enough to make it spreadable with a brush, then wadded up the foil and flattened it out and spread glue on it...then put it on the ceiling...and spread a little glue over it.

I finally got my images to upload...
my 7x7 album

I'm doing well! Really looking forward to seeing all the LOs for the challenge!!

I still need to get to the scrapbook store to investigate adhesive. If I can't find the kind Amanda mentioned I'll resort to brads, but I'd rather not have to go that route.

Would you add anything (like rub-ons or flowers) to this LO or leave it as is:

http://www.scrapbook.com/galleries/117221/view/673013/-...

I'm thinking about putting it in one of the LSS V-day contest.

- oh and the brown boarder goes all the way around - it scanned in funny!

Thanks for doing this Amber! If it hadn't been for the challenge, I don't thing I would have scrapped this week at all, and it was really nice to spend some time recharging myself in my scrap space

Oh, Chas! You're my hero! I SO want to be on a DT that it hurts my brain!!! I just never think I'm good enough or creative enough for something like that, but I'll try! Now I gotta go to the LSS and find that "black sheet" paper you were talking about!!! I LOVE SHEEP ( LOL !)

Lynette - great to hear that you were able to finish the challenge! Can't wait to see what you came up with - I will check as soon as I get up in the AM!

Amber, I left you a comment about that LO... I think it's amazing, but I am stumped as to what to add to it. I still think it needs something else, but I can't put my finger on what. A rub-on or sticker would be good... but it would really depend on what or where. This is why my LOs end up taking me forever to complete.... I will mull over little details like that for hours, trying to decide what looks the best. I am sure glad we started this group - everyone has been so great about giving critique and advice so far!

I'm still dragging my feet on that challenge LO... I have to get some pics off my digi cam. Supposedly my aunt is going to send me pics she took at Xmas of Travis (my fiance) proposing to me, I would like to have them ANYTIME NOW so I can do a nice romantic V-day LO... but so far I've heard nothing from her about them. :Sigh: Of course, I have no pics of that event bc I was actually the one in the pic for once (and didn't know what was about to happen to be able to throw someone my cam!) I suppose that challenge will be my goal for tomorrow. Gotta get it done!

Well girls, that's it from me for now. I'm always so wordy - geez! Take care all - see ya in the AM!

Hello everyone!

sorry about the typo thing Chas - I kinda figured that might have been the case, but you never know! I still love that PP and can't wait to get some!!!!! It's so CUTE!

WOW Amber!! That stuff is amazing! are those like little "jelly" letters in the one tin? HOW FUN! Can't wait to find out who the lucky girl is!

And finally..........I FINISHED MY CHALLENGE LO!! (and I'm so brain-dead!) It took me 2 1/2 hours... + coffee + raspberry hot chocolate (with marshmallows with pink hearts on them!) + 2 PACKS (boy was that bad) of Little Debbie Swiss cake rolls..... and here's what I got:

Alex(ander)

I don't like it...
But I am glad that Amber held this challenge because it forced me to do something with my SBing that I usually don't ( thank you Amber!! ) Simplicity is just not my thing. Travis thinks it turned out just fine, but I'm not ready to embrace the "white space" yet. Let me know what you guys think...

Well, it's bedtime for me. Been up since way too early and had quite a busy day (on which I had not planned!) Good night, everyone!

Very nice Shaunna! I do have a question though - what does the metal piece in the top left corner say? I'm not sure if it's my eyes or the scan, but I can't read it!

Yeah there is all kinds of Queen and Co stuff in that grab pack. A little bit of everything, so hopefully whoever wins will like it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the challenge entries!! If you haven't submitted yours yet you now have t-minus 15hrs and counting.

Thanks Amber and Lynette for the comments! The little charm says "a faithful friend". It didn't scan very well!

GAWWWWW..... less than two hours and I have to be at the school for a Pep Rally... then Homecoming game. OH BOY!! Can't wait to see what everyone else came up w/ for the chalenge, either! Hopefully none of you struggled as much as I did!

Have a FABulous Friday girls!

Welcome Aimee!!!!

I feel like such a loser. There is a slim chance that I won't be able to complete my challenge layout on time. Mainly my fault for putting it off. Got inspired and started scrapbooking, but then add a sick almost 2 year old on Wednesday, and a backed up sewer yesterday, and things go wrong. I worked at the local school today, and the sewer guy was here when I got home from work. Couldn't scrapbook last night because of the gas from the sewer. DD is still under the weather, so I'm hoping to get her to bed early tonight, but I'm not holding my breath. DH isn't here to watch DD so I can't sneak away after supper. Oh well, when it rains it pours.
