I don't know about you, but when people come to my gallery and look but never even say hello I wonder what it is that they thought. I'm not looking for the typical "great lo", "nice job", "wtg" kinda thing. I want ladies who really want to Get Real! Ladies who will say when something just doesn't seem to fit, or when something is missing. Scrapbooking is a constant learning process and we cannot learn if we are not open to new ideas.

I know she hasn't put up a member list yet, but I will take the plunge. This one was a real struggle for me, took me a long time to figure out what the heck I was doing with it. In the end, I think it came together nicely, but it's certainly not what I had in my head originally...

Do be honest! Does it need anything more? I know the ribbon is a little askew, I can't quite figure out how to adhere it, and since it's sheer, even Glue Dots showed through a bit...

If we leave a comment in someone's gallery, should we preface it with "GR" or something like that?

Hi everyone!!!

From what I save seen about comments, you should definately leave a comment on the layout itself. Acknoledge it here as well. Any critique, or advice should be postsed HERE and not on the layout, and then only when asked for!! Does that sound ok??

Your so brave Carolyn! All in all I'd say that it holds together really well. The stamping is great but when are stamp designers going to realize that they need to make reverse stamps? If one stamp runs to the right you need one exactly the same to run to the left!
The one pic that is cut in an odd shape kinda throws me but I can see why you had to do it that way and I would have done the same so all in all I'd say you did a beautiful job on this LO!!!

I rarely leave a critique unless it's asked for either in the description or in a thread. I love the idea of putting "GR" before the comment. I've had an album for a long time that's I'd cycle my layouts through that needed critique from anyone who'd be willing. Time to wipe the virtual dust off of that one.

In another critique group I am in, which I think is dwindling down, we leave comments on both the layout and here. And we do something like this so you know it is from the group **GR** before the comment.

I really like this layout and I agree that companies should make a reverse of a stamp! With the ribbon, could you maybe use one of those glue pens? I don't ever use too much sheer ribbon so I'm not sure if it will work. The 1 thing that stands out to me is the letter "i" being lower case with the rest of the letters being capitalized. Overall though, its a great layout!

I don't know where you want us to leave critique but I think the layout looks great. I agree the small letter i doesn't look quite right, it drew my attention immediately. As for the ribbon, I would either put some small brads throughout it or run it through my "X".

I like that idea, because I don't like leaving an actual critique ON the layout itself, I feel self-conscious about outside people reading it.

Thanks, DeAnna. I agree about the reverse stamp, that's what I wanted for those two stamps around the top pics.

Also, that weirdly cut picture was a remnant of what I *thought* I was going to do with the layout before it came together the way it did. Sort of weird and if I hadn't cut into it already, I probably would have cropped it differently and gone with a regular old rectangle.

Ok, my two cents worth!!~

I always stamp onto transparancy paper and cut it out so I can use the reverse side if want too. Also, you don't have to worry about screwing up the whole layout if the stamp goes on bad!! You can move it wherever you want (saves a lot of paper and aggravation!!)

Do be honest! Does it need anything more? I know the ribbon is a little askew, I can't quite figure out how to adhere it, and since it's sheer, even Glue Dots showed through a bit...

Oooh... brads, good idea! I love brads. lol

Hmmm, good idea on the brads.

Yeah, the lower case i was from the heidi swap chip letters...all the vowels are lower case and the consonants are upper case. It does look a tad odd, I think. I may have to leave it, though, since I don't have any other letters to fix it with.

WTG!! I love brave people!

The colours are great and I love the pp you chose. These are well photographed images!

Constructive critique:
The photo display is not totally balanced. The bottom corder pic seems to fall off the page. Don't be afraid to stack pics on top of each other. I would have put the scalloped border on top of the big pic. The flower could be a bit bigger, but it is definitely the right colour.

See! This is why I joined this critique group. Although it may be too late for this layout, all of this gives me insight for next time. I'd say yep, yep, yep to almost all the critique thus far.

Thanks all!

I really like it. I agree with everyone else about maybe inking a little bit or some type of doodling. Unless you are going for negative space. And this is just my opinion, if you are referring to his eyes, I might change the pic to black & white and recolor his eyes. Gorgeous pic though. Love it

Another brave soul!

I can't tell if it's the picture of the layout, but it's very muted and I feel like it needs something to brighten it up a bit. Maybe something that matched the blue of his eyes? Like a second mat around the photo to kind of grab you and draw you in.

ETA: I like the simplicity of it, however. That's so my style!

BTW, all, I have a June challenge going for hand-cutting. I'm a relatively new scrapper and spend my money on nice paper and embellies rather than expensive tools, so I hand-cut almost everything. Please come join, if you want...

Got to go check some LOs!

I agree that converting the pic in B&W and keeping and enhancing the blue of his eyes would be a nice touch. Photoshop is a great tool to do that. If you don't have that software, it might be difficult to do.

Otherwise, I like this LO just the way it is. I am a big fan of negative space and this LO is a good one!

First off I need to state that I'm a very simple scrapper. To the point I've gotten very lazy and hardly do much beyond getting pix onto papers. Hardly any embellies, journaling or even titles. Need a good kick to make me step out of this laziness.

It's really crazy since I have the materials/tools and I know how to do so much more than I'm doing.

I've read the other comments/critiques for your layout. The only thing that bother me was the way you cut/cropped the bottom left photo. I would have let it run off the pp or moved it over but kept it a rectangle.

I also would have matted the center the photo, which I absolutely adore!!! It's a fantastic photo and needs more attention than it's getting in the layout.

I'll try to refrain from my bling pushing here.

I must say though that I have only been scrapping since January or February. That is why every layout looks so completely different. I still haven't found 'my style' yet. This is why I am so excited about this group!!!

I haven't found my style...or maybe my style is about trying different things all the time. I tend to like cleaner, simpler layouts. I can appreciate the beauty of a fancy, embellie-laden layout if it's well done, but it's not my way of doing things.

The title has my eyes bouncing back and forth. I think it would flow better to have it going either vertically or horizontally. Maybe ink the letters a bit blue? Not sure of that.

I think it would make a great layout to take a real close up of just his eyes.

Love the overall design, the tearing and colors.

It's beautiful! The focal photo is precious!!!

I agree pretty much in what have been said already. Don't be afraid of stacking items - it binds elements together, and makes a whole of parts. Brads are great for ribbons! And so are staple bars (but maybee not for this LO, since it is so cute and soft).

I agree it needs something to make it pop! Robin did a great one (If I had to lose to anyone Robin I'm proud to lose to you LOL) that she did in B&W with the blue eyes enhanced. I think that would do the trick!

BTW IF anyone doesn't have software or the know how to edit photo's I'd be happy to help.

I think it's rare that someone has any particular "sb style" and the newer ones I've been noticing lately has me like it was well too hard to get at? Like someone tried too hard to be different from what's out there already.

Not that I have anything against being unique or coming up with something new and fun. Just, well, personally I have to be careful to remember what my goal is in sbing. It is mainly to present my photos in a way that tells the story of our lives. I can get seriously derailed in that goal and make this into work if I were to, for example, try to get published or win contests (beyond those that you enter and then a name is drawn).

I do want to "improve" and not settle for less than I can do for a layout. So here I am.

I'll put what I think. Some times that means not reading the other suggestion until after I post mine.

Does everyone know to use spoiler codes here?

Use the the block below the blue smilie face to ...

If you want more than one spoiler in a post, you'll have to...

Had to do that for a book club thread to not ruin the plot for those that hadn't read up to that point.

ok, I don't know if I should do this, but I am posting a survey from another critique group I am in to introduce myself.

1. what you want us to call you- Yvonne or lilmrmaid

2. Where you are located- Milligan, NE

3. birthday? March 12, I just turned 40

4. # of years scrapbooking- have no idea, started a long time ago, then stopped and then restarted and am more serious this time.

5. significant other? how long? Doug, I have lived with him since May 1992. We are not married but after that many years of being together, it seems like we are and everyone considers us married.

6. kids? names and ages? Step Son--TJ, age 22, Son--Brian, age almost 21, Daughters--Krystal, age 18 & Brittni, age 14.

7. Pets? what kind? names? 2 Yellow Labs--Cuddles & Valentine, 2 Kitties--Snickers & Oreo, 2 kitties in heaven--Cookie & Snowball and my DD, Krystal, has 2 hermit crabs named Strawberry and Daiquiri, and one large 8" goldfish

8. Favorite scrapbooking technique? I like using chipboard on everything and most of my layouts seem to have to have some type of 3-D (jolees) embellishments. I am starting to get into more inking and trying out stamps.

9. biggest scrapbooking challenge? Getting things to look good together. I made a goal for myself to do 50 layouts in 2008 and have exceded that.

10. What are your scrapbooking goals? To get all my pics scrapped LOL

11. Are you on any design teams? No

12. What do you hope to gain the most from this group? helpful advice and make some new friends and learn new things

13. do you think you would be able to submit at least 1 page a month? yes

14. do you prefer to scrap alone or with others? favorite time to scrap? I love to scrap with my dd's and by myself

my fave time to scrap is all day, but I do scrap late at night too

"["spoilera:1] the shocking things can be put here, including the ending, secrets, etc."["/spoilera]

Of course without the " marks. If I didn't put them here, you wouldn't see the codes. This is what you'd see.

then the beginning of your statement or title or subject, whatever as long as it doesn't give away the ending or anything shocking

If you put more than 1 spoiler, you'll have to change the number to 2, then 3, etc. for each additional spoiler code.

I use the button up top of the posting area, it's right below the blue smilie face when you do a reply or quote. It doesn't show up at the bottom of a thread.

I like the goldish effect, actually!

My only critique is that his name gets kind of lost, but I know that the challenge was about using a single colour so I am not sure how you'd change that.

I have to keep in mind my ultimate goal too. Which is actually why I do very few single pic layouts...there are too many pictures that are a part of the "story", so sometimes even if it means crowding a bunch in, I do it.

I did discover printing 2x3 and 3x4 prints at CVS, so that I could make a single photo the centerpoint and have other pics still in there.

Carolyn, I'd take a photo, save it under a different name, and copy reduced imaged to it. I can get 4 cropped photo on it or 9 or whatever depending on how much I reduced my other photos by. Then I'd resize it to a perfect 4x6 or 5x7 and get it printed up as one photo. Then I'd cut of leave it that way for my layout.

I can get alot of images onto a page!

This is so funny because I finally started scrapping for the opposite reason. I have friends who have been scrapping for years and they all look either like a photo album on paper or a photo album on paper with a few dozen stickers stuck everywhere. I was totally turned off by it all and refused to have anything to do with it. Then I found Scrapperlicious' work and OMIGOD!!! It can be art too. I can use my paint brushes!!! LOL!

Oh my goodness girls! You have been busy on our first day! I have 2 wild boys running around, so I will have to post later this evening, or if I can somehow get them both down for a nap. Gotta run!

Baby Blues By Amigosa

The title has my eyes bouncing back and forth. I think it would flow better to have it going either vertically or horizontally. Maybe ink the letters a bit blue? Not sure of that.

I think it would make a great layout to take a real close up of just his eyes.

Love the overall design, the tearing and colors.

This made me think of an LO I made back in February of my dd's eyes. You don't have to leave a comment,I'm just sharing my dd's baby blues!

The sad reason that bird is on the layout is because it was a new stamp and I really wanted to use it. lol That bird is the reason I used that branch. It's funny because I also think that the placing of the bird is really strange.

I understand doing that,I have to use my new stuff as soon as I possibly can! You know,IF you wanted to you could place something over the bird(flower, journaling spot). Then stamp the bird on cs or transparency and put it on the branch.

Ok I'll give it a run too. I did this one last night for the June Color Challenge. IRL the doily and swirly things are green but the pic came out gold.
I wish I had letter stamps to have done the journaling with but oh well.

Please be honest and let'er rip

I am not sure what I would do any differently. The name blends in but with only being able to use 1 color, it would be hard to make it really pop. I really like this layout! You did a great job!

The birds are the latest fad and I'm seeing them everywhere. On another thread I went into a tear/rant about them then it hit me what do flowers aor flourishes or bling for that matter have to do with most pix? Not a thing!! We want them, we put them on our layouts.

DeAnna, you know I am a big fan of your work! I looked at this one and I looked again and again. I just cannot find anything to say that could make it better. Did I say that I looked and looked again?
