Welcome to August's Card Challenge! This month I am honored to be filling in for Jamie, hope I can step into her shoes for the month! This months challenges will feature the same categories with a twist! I was inspired by a prize I made for a briday shower...a box of all purpose cards! So..if you chose to complete all 5 challenges this month, and the bonus box, you will have a fabulous box of cards you can use as a gift for someone special! Just make sure you make all your cards standard 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 if you want them to fit into the box! Feel free to make them any size you want, and make as many or little cards as you want, I just thought it would be fun to make the box of cards!!!
No sign ups necessary..just post your cards and as soon as I figure out how...I will link them to the appropriate category!!! Have fun and happy card making!

I'm gonna give it a go this month...

I want to use up my scraps and I think the best way to do that is turn them into cards!

SO loving that box idea too! I'm thinking that would be a PERFECT Christmas present for my grandmother who 1- doesnt need anything and 2 - has no room for anything evn if she needed it!

Thanks for the ideas!

Hey everyone!!! Been scrapping with my SIL all day so far...just finished linking the new cards and now I have to go clean for an hour.....we made a rule that the two of us would clean as much as we could for an hour then go back to scrapping!! If we didn't do that .....with our 4 kids running around...the mess would swallow us up! luckily, our kids occupy each other so we can actually get scrapping done...It is seriously going to be a 2 week crop while i'm here!! Anyways..off to clean..I'll check in later tonight!! Have a great day everyone!

What a vacation Tracey..that u can atleast scrap where u are going. I love the card box idea. I still have JuLY'S category to be completed. Need to finish the stitching. Btw Tracey...for the technique..I dont have glossy cs or photo paper so will it work on a plain cs. If not I need to go & buy something. I have to see if my dye ink has any ink in it at all. Well then see u later.

Good Morning Everyone! I'm ACU!!!

Yesterday was Mom and Dad day, today it's laundry and cooking (a good old southern meal - beef roast, fresh corn, mashed potatoes, fried yellow Squash with Vidalia onions, sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, fresh from my aunt's garden). YUM!!!!

So, maybe I can play more tomorrow, Friday is Mom's first of the month shop-a-thon so I'll be gone ALL DAY!!! Then Sat. I'm going to the lss and play all day!!! My first time doing this, so it should be interesting, but I'll get to use her cricut and diecut/embossing stuff!

I've got a couple of cards to upload - both I did for the 2 Sketches 4 You challenge, but I only entered one of them. I'll try to get them on later today.

Have a great day!!! Becky

Good Morning, Folks! I hope to get more playing done today!

Linnny, I've found if you add a thread to your favorite topics, that works better for me than subscribing! I don't like all those e-mails you get when you subscribe! Just scroll down almoste to the bottom of the page, below the reply box and there are 2 options just to the right. 1 - Add to your favorite topics and 2 - Subscribe to this thread. Then, once you've added a topic to your favorites, go back to your 'place, and over on the left hand side there's a box that says 'Forum Stuff' and within that, 'My Favorite Topics'. You just click on that and it lists your favorite topics and is sooooo much easier! Just thought I'd pass that along!

Everyone have a great day! Becky

Good Morning!!!!

Thanks Becky, gonna try what you're saying...seems simple enough.

It's Thursday...concert night...girl's night out!!!! Tonight is Starship from the 80's...one of their songs that sticks out in my mind is "We Built This City" (on rock and roll). Also, having a 'mystery' rocker???? We all have such a fun night at these concerts! The last one we went to, a couple of weeks ago, was really fun 'cause everyone was up dancing . It really helped 'cause my restless leg thingy was driving me crazy...the dancing helped!!!!

OK....I'm thinkin about baking a cake and bringing it with us....ya gotta have somethin to munch on!

OK....later my lovelies...

Linnny, wish I was up there so I could go with you! Sounds like soooooo much fun! Have a good time!

Hubby's promised me that some day (yeah, right!) he'll take me to NY, if and when he does, we'll have to get together! I went once years ago on a bus trip with a friend's ladies club - we had a BLAST!!!

Must go play some now! Later, B.

ETA -

Tracey, Ms. Hostess Lady! (LOL)

I wanted to clarify something about the color category. It's okay to use the same hues, but different tones, right??? Like instead of bright purple and bright yellow, you can use soft lavendar and buttery yellow??? I've got some papers I want to use, and they fall in the category, just in paler tones. That's what the article in Paper Crafting Mag. says anyway. Thanks for info! Becky

Wow! I just noticed something! This card I was just going to share is orange and blue - complimentary colors! So that means I can enter it in the color category of the challenge! I'm amazed I even thought of that today! Anyway, here's one for color. I've also entered it in the CPS sketch challenge for #75. As usual you can see more pics and more info on my blog, link below. Thanks for looking! Becky

Never did go to the concert. Got into a real funk today. Saddness; anxiety; depression....just all hit me at once. When I get like that I can't get myself together to get dressed and get out, although it would have been the best thing to do. Sometmes life just becomes more challenging than ya think ya can handle. So it was a yucky day for me. To try to get my mind off my troubles, I joined a digi challenge. My entry is a bit odd...I'm likin' it. Thought I would share it with y'all.

lol, if I told you how much work it was before hand, you would never have volunteered! I enjoy doing it, but it is a lot of work. The last hostess of this challenge had to give it up because it was so much work. but maybe if we are able to alternate months it won't be too bad.

I wanted to share this with everyone. It was mentioned last month about sending cards to the soldiers overseas. I came across this thread last night before I left for work http://scrapbook.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/1473879/p... and this would be such a worthwhile project for anyone interested. The person hosting this does several of these throughout the year and I had completely forgotten about it until I noticed the post last night. Please consider volunteering for a spot.

Good Morning Everyone!

Just wanted to say HI! as I'll be gone all day - it's the monthly 'first of the month shop-a-thon' with my mom. I take her to pay bills and do the bulk of her monthly shopping. I'm just the chauffeur - period! But, I'm taking my felt and embroidery bag today, so maybe I'll get something done while sitting around waiting for her. It's supposed to be mid 90's today, so thank goodness most places she goes have benches or somewhere I can sit!

A little history --- my mom has never, ever, EVER gotten in a hurry for anybody or anything, and as she's gotten older, she's gotten slower. When I was a kid, it didn't matter where we had to go - if she was going, we were late. And it wasn't because she was getting us ready! We would be sitting waiting on her for ages and ages and she would just be taking her time. In the stores, she picks up every single thing - even though she knows she wouldn't buy it or couldn't afford it. Drives me nuts! I don't like the first of the month!

Anyway, ya'll have a great day, and I'll be back sometime late afternoon or early evening! Blessings, Becky

Hi Everyone!

The shopping marathon is over for another month - whew!

Linnny, I don't have much patience with waiting either, but I just keep reminding myself "It's my mother, and I won't always have her here to do this for, so deal with it!" I know you understand me more than most on that one!

I took my felt and embroidery bag, and cut out bunches of little birdies in 2 styles and 3-4 colors, and some triangles I hope to use as trees on some Christmas cards. The time went faster with something to do - all except at WalMart - she was in there two solid hours!

But, I came home with two bags full of apples, a huge bag of home grown pears, and a big bag of fresh home grown okra, and another bag full of squash, peppers and cucumbers. We'll be eating veggies this next week!

I left home @ 9:00 this morning and got home about 5:45 tonight - a long day, and although I'm hungry, I think I'm more tired.

I've got to spend some time tonight deciding what I want to take with me tomorrow for my first cropping session at the lss. She says they start at 10:30 and sometimes go until 8 or 9 at night - although I will NOT be there that long, I can promise you! But at least I'll get to use their cricut and sissix and all that kind of stuff!

So, it's off to find something I can eat without cooking, (maybe a bagel) and then spend some time going through all my stuff. Talk to you later! Becky

Sorry, but I just remembered! I got my bonus card box done, and 3 coordinating cards to go with it, I've just got to get pics made and upload them. Later! B.

Wowser Becky...that was one loooooong day. Glad ya had something to keep your mind and hands busy. It's amazing that your mom has the stamina to do so many errands! Bless her!!!!

Your suggestion of eating a bagel tonight brought back a memory. My first vacation away from home...my friends and I were about 18 yrs old and we drove down south to some beach. When we went for breakfast I ordered a bagel. The waitress said, in the twanggiest southern drawl, "baaaagel, what's a baaaaagel." Us New Yorkers just looked at each other in disbelief! Bagels to us were as well known as white bread! I'm happy to hear baaaaaaagels have infiltrated the south! LOL

Have a blast at the crop tomorrow!!!!

That's hilarious, Linnny! Remind me to tell you hubby's sweet tea story in Montana - about the same!

Way back in 1971 I was introduced to bagels by my aunt, who at the time was dating a Jewish man. She took me out and bought me an outfit for school, then took me to Harry Barron's Delicatessan, where I got a bagel, cream cheese, and huge queen sized green olives - it was a feast, and I've been loving bagels ever since, although it was a LONG time before they were readily available around here.

For years I frequented a deli near where I worked - their bagels were made fresh each morning, and when they were out - they were out for the day. But they were soooooo good!

I'm packed out, and headed to bed. How in the world do you decide what to take and what to leave home when you need everything???? Will someone who does crops regularly please share some insight with me???

Good Night All! Becky

I go to a crop every week and I still have that problem! I bring my large and small paper trimmers, scissors, ruler, cutting matte, MC circle & oval cutting system, 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock stash (I have that in a portable file and I scrap 8 1/2 x 11), xyron 150 x, pens & markers, adhesive, pagemaps sketch cards, flowers and my scraps. Those are the items that always go. Then I look at all the potential los I hope to work on. What specific pattern papers do I need? Am I going to need ribbon and if so which ones? Do I need buttons or brads? I do make little notes as to what I need to do at home to complete the lo. For example, I needed to cut some letters out as well as copy some clipart that I had at home. I hope that helps! I'm still trying to figure out what to take after almost 2 years of going to a crop almost every week.

Hey ladies.....the night owl is here...why is it that i am always up so late???maybe because with 4 kids under the age of 5 running around all day...it is hard to do anything!!! only 2 of them are mine, but still! Anyways...I am going to link todays cards now...so many pretty ones!!! LOVE the frog card Kaia!!!

Becky: some cropping advice: I ahve gone to a few now, and I have done it 2 different ways....one way is to just take EVERYTHING, and that way SUCKS!!! I hate it! i feel so disorganized! The second way, and this I only did once...was to prep for a weeek in advance...
What i did was get all my swaps (which for some reason I always have TONS that I am working on) and at least design whatever I was making....then I would cut out everything I needed, and pack all the supplies for each one into a baggie. I simply took all the baggies with me and worked on all my swaps! It was great! totally organized, and I didn't even get them all done, but at least I didn't take my whole room and then hve to put it all away later!!!
ok...i'm off to link cards, hope everyone is having a greast weekend!

Thanks for the advice ladies! I'm going to take what I have packed, but leave most of it in the car until I see what I really need. There's definitely a learning curve here, but I'm really looking forward to it. Can't wait to try out their cricut and sissix stuff!

Off to finish packing and get dressed - have a great day folks! Becky

Each time I think I'll go for a crop at the local Jo-Ann's, I stop at my tracks coz I dont know what to take & invariably dont go for the crop at all. Then I get a little upset & prefer to work at home with all the stuff that I have. But hey I wouldn't be able to use the machines they have in the store. Have fun today Becky. I still need to get caught up with all the posts. Have a wondeful weekend everyone.

For scraps card I used small blue pp scraps (around punches) and cut them even smaller and just glued them with Paper Mod Podge on the paper, then coted all this again with Paper Mod Podge. For flower I punched with circle punch half circles and glued them in circles. It didn't take lots of time, just hands were all gooey, but I like it.

Well, I'm about to leave for the crop - and I think I did a pretty good job of getting things together. I have my rolling laptop case (without the laptop, lol!) packed to the hilt with my cutter, rulers, cardstock, ribbon, inks, buttons and other embellishments. One 12 x 12 kit box full of paper and the flatter embellishments like rub-ons and die cuts. Another 12 x 12 kit box full of tools like my silent setter, eyelets, scissors, pens, stamps, etc. And a plastic shoe box of flowers. I also have the new kit I got from HSN a few weeks ago, but I'm leaving it in the car unless I just HAVE to have it! All in all, not too bad, I don't think! Have a great day and I'll check in when I get back home. Blessings ya'll, Becky

ACU - I think!

I had a great time at the lss crop - there were about 10 - 15 people, some there all the time, others in and out. I didn't get to use the cricut - it was pretty busy, but one girl did lend me her nestabilities and I used them on the big kick sissix - well, now I've gotta have them! Incredible shapes, and so easy. One of the cards I made today has a circle that is both scallopped and embossed - in one easy step - gotta get some! You can use them with a cuttlebug, too, and I think that's what I'm going to tell hubby I want for Christmas - Cuttlebug, dies, nestabilities, you get the idea!

I got there a little before 11 and left about 3:30, and had a great time. I learned one lesson, though. From now on, I leave my paper and cardstock at home, carry my tools and embellishments, and buy paper and cardstock that catches my fancy there. That way I leave all the paper home, and get new stuff, too! What a deal!

I'm tired, gonna go crash! Have a great rest of the weekend! Becky

I think I'm acu!

I started one of those card boxes today. Packing up a bunch of my "ugly" paper cards and sending 3-5 packs out with MIL when she leaves to see her family on Friday. She said she'd take them out to her sisters, mom, etc. for me since DH and I never got out there this summer (also helping to give me back some card storage space ). They're not that hard to do, although I'm making them with a plain cardstock base and then piecing pattern paper over it.
