For secret santa, still need to hear from Christy and BeckyJ. Then I'll set it up with a due date of mid-December.

Bran, I hope you'll be able to talk to your doctor soon. I have access to a nurse help line (24/7) so if you need an info, I can call for you.

Glenda, how is the packing going? K must be excited!!!

I'm in for secret santa and will send out package at least a week before christmas!

Bran: I had the same thing happen to me...call your doc as much as you can. He needs to be aware that you need him....that's what he gets paid for.

How far along are you? Sometimes the pain is ligaments stretching and the water weight on the cervix. However, with that being said (I do not want to scare you) I ignored mine at on my ultrasound at 20 weeks they found out my cervix was dialated and effaced. Doc said never to ignore pain. Don't worry about being 'paranoid' Always better safe than sorry.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE IN LABOR (I had an incompetant cervix from previous surgeries). The moral was that your doc should be concerned when YOU are concerned. Make an appt for Monday and if you still feel pain do not be afraid to go to the ER.

Izzy: I am all packed and so is Ky ~ Laundry is done and DH will be packing tomorrow (he's a procrastinator) or Monday morning before we leave (it drives me nuts thinking we're going to be late)

I'm going for my bikini wax at 12 and then my mani/pedi after that.

Aluri: Should we ask them to delete the old string?

So I've been out with Lois and spent another £50+ on trainers, joggers etc. How come it always goes out faster than it comes in!! Money, I mean!!

Bran, I can completely understand why you're concerned and angry, I would be too. I agree with the others that I don't feel alarmed by what you've described, it could be a million and one different things, but take it easy and definitely call your Dr. If you needed him for something more urgent or frightening what would have happened? You need to know the reason he didn't call back for your peace of mind at least. He should apologise and be very understanding and sympathetic about why you're a little nervous.

Kate, nice little kit! I like the neutrals but I'm not mad on the green to be honest. That shade isn't a fave nor does the texture of that one appeal overly. I can see that I'd use the light shade frequently as well as the black (brown?) one but if you had even more texture they'd be even better! Go you designer you!!

So stick with more neutral colors, and add more texture...got it! Thanks so much, exactly what I was looking for.

Well, that's just my opinion obviously!! And not necessarily neutral but less...umm...garish? a bit more muted. I don't dislike green, it was just a bit kind of obvious if that makes sense?

makes total sense. quite honestly digi layouts with those colors we'd consider "garish" don't appeal to me at all. advice well taken. will work on another version.

Glenda, I don't think we need to have Volume One deleted. I know some like to refer back to it sometimes, so we'll let it drift to the end of the forum for now.

Kate, just downloaded your papers. LOVE the tan one. The design and texture are perfect for my at-the-moment style. The dark green has a FAB texture, but I can only really see it when zoomed in. Can it be a bigger texture? And I like the fuzzy texture of the lighter one, but I agree, it's a tough color to use! Maybe in your next beach-y paper pack? Well done on your first papers, my my!! So cool!

I just had an call from my MIL and she told me that this afternoon she mentioned the hotel (where dh was the GM for 13 years, where we lived when we were first married, where we had dds christening parties, dh's 40th birthday party and numerous family celebrations) to FIL and he looked puzzled and asked "Have we stayed there?" He couldn't recall it at all. I suppose until now I've been able to put his lapses down to minor things we could all forget quite easily, like where we left the car keys etc, but not this. This is a major 'forget' and actually I feel quite shocked. The illness is obviously progressing faster than I thought

Kate I really apologize for not getting the 8x8 pages to you. I finally buckled down and picked a picture (not to recent but whatever) and I have started them, so I can have them mailed next mon. or tuesday. They are just supposed to be about us? Right?
Can someone please refresh my memory? Thanks in advance!

I think she's gotten most of them. We should start up another challenge while we wait and those who aren't done aren't allowed to participate I'm willing to host the next challenge if anyone's interested.

So the situation here isn't looking good either...I realize we have nothing compared to Houston, but the Chicago area is completely flooded. There's picture of one of our expressways and it's completely impassable. Both my front and back yards are like giant lakes, but there's LOTS of streets and basements flooded in the Metro area. Could be an interesting weekend as the rain isn't done, and we're supposed to get the remnants of Ike tomorrow. Another 2-4 inches of rain at least before it's all over. I need to get out and gt some groceries...just in case I'm homebound for a day or so.

Izzy: I forgot to go to the post office this morning (and forgot the cats vet appt) and it was too late when i remembered. I'm so sorry. I still haven't found the chocolate bar yet....when i get back from vacation i promise to send them!

Don't worry about that Glenda. None are urgent. Enjoy your Disney vacation!

I'm one of the late person for Kate's challenge LO. I wanted to do it last week but life decided otherwise. It's on my to-do list of things I absolutely have to do before the end of my vacation.

Jakki, don't worry about the secret santa. You're on my list that I will submit to elfster. Nancy was talking about another challenge she will host soon.

I'm off for the night (Hugo has a bachelor party and I going to see a play with my BFF).

please please please everyone make a concerted effort to get your 8x8's done. i feel bad for saying this - but i don't feel we should start another challenge since this 8x8 obligation isn't completed. we're half way through September and i have only received from four people. it was set up as a "do it while you can" to get people thru the busy summer months, but the intention wasn't to drag it out for six months. so please try to get them done in the next week or two so i can get this sent off to Aluri. thanks.

isn't it funny how men can just fall asleep anywhere? i cannot sleep unless i am tucked into my bed, yet i see men sleeping in church, in meetings at work, watching tv, etc.

sorry to hear about your FIL...got me to thinking about mine and dh's longevity and mental fitness. we jokingly talk about getting old and having to change each others diapers and stuff...but wow it's so tough to think about truly having to take care of him (or even my parents) when they become unable to do so. here is a person you have known and loved and they aren't that same person anymore...well, they are, you just can't communicate with them. oh that doesn't make sense. did you ever see the movie "The Notebook". i've seen it several times and i cry every time. i hope my dh loves me enough to take care of me like that. i know i would for him. i hope your MIL feels like she has a good support system and help when she needs it. i would think that is very important.

She's struggling at the moment I think. She won't go to a local Alzheimer's support group because she's worried about seeing people they know and he doesn't want it to be public knowledge yet. Je's withdrawing, I think, from socialising so that no-one notices. Last weekend he had a very close shave in the car in London and it scared everyone. He has a medical review in November and we're sure he'll lose his licence then - he really should do. We're actually going to try and persuade him to give up gracefully before then but he's a proud man and he'll fight it for sure. Unfortunately none of us live within an hour and a half of them so we can't pop in that easily although we're going to have to sort out going each weekend at least between us I think. MIL's blood pressure is already very high and she's had a few funny turns.... but she's also a bit...shall we say...quick tempered and impatient and that doeesn't help because she flusters him when he's trying to remember things. Oh lordy...

pride can be a bitter pill...i truly believe there is one generation, perhaps two, where asking for help is somewhat unheard of. groups, the internet, etc just didn't exist and people didn't seek that kind of help. things were kept quiet and dealt with internally. it's quite sad, really, as there is so much out there. i hope she realizes (or someone convinces her) she can get assistance before it's too late and her health suffers because of her...umm...is stubborness the right word??

You're right, they're definitely of the generation who keep this sort of thing quiet. She was a pretty fiesty woman in her youth, still is really, but as you say, she needs to accept some help on this one or they'll both be poorly SHe's so sharp mentally though, it must be painful for her.

and what's unfortunate is - and lord i pray this doesn't bode true - but i just pray that it doesn't take a horrible turn of events for her to ask for help. more times than not you aren't given any options by the time things get to that point - especially if a state or social service has to step in.

all of that to say, it's so easy to sit way over here and have all these snippets of "wisdom". pride, denial, love and ignorance are very powerful and make us all do things others can't, don't or won't understand. (not to say your MIL is ignorant, i meant it more like being mis-informed or not being aware of options)...

I think there's denial involved but who can blame her? I guess we're all still that way and trying to 'pretend' it's not that bad yet, but we know really that we have to get things sorted soon. By which I mean plans for his future, his will, power of attorney etc etc. It's all in hand but has to be handled carefully. You can't just say to someone in that position "hurry up!" obviously but dh's older sister is the one he talks most openly to so she's onto it with him.

Anyway...lets talk about something more cheerful - has ds done any more dance videos lately?

My dh's mother has some early dementia & even spent a year in a nursing home-hers is complicated by some other problems that my dh would rather me not share-but it was a real trial for his dad. I think he had to go through his critical period, just as Kate described, then she went into the facility. Now he has her back at home, and I don't know how he does it, but her meds are better and he has asked for help & has assistance from various agencies during the day. It is just such a tough life-changing situation-it definitely makes you think about how short life really is!

Kate-I am so sorry again about the lateness of my LO-I have had it all finished except for the photos for at least 4 weeks-then I couldn't seem to get a photo that I liked, then school started, well the rest is just procrastination. My photos should be ready very soon (tomorrow I hope) & then I'll send them. I really want Aluri to get her book asap. My gosh-I wonder if any other group has had to start a new thread from being so chatty? Does anyone know?

sorry Carolyn...suffice it to say i think your awareness of the situation and how much you care will go a long way. thank you for...well...just being you.

i think the videos have kind of fallen by the wayside...what with school and sports being so consuming right now. he's very happy in his free time to just watch a movie or (as he is right now) play Rock Band. maybe i should make a video of him playing Rock Band...it's quite amazing really how kids can pick up this stuff so easily and master it.

LauriB - I wasn't trying to chastise anyone...just a little bit so we can move on to other things...I'm still waiting to see something with your new flowers on it too lady!!

Thanks for sharing that Lauri. I know many people go through the same thing, and much worse, we all just have to cope as best we can I suppose and ask for help when necessary!

I understand you take on the challenge situation Kate. Hopefully everyone will have a little settled time soon to be able to complete their pages. I can't wait to see them!!

tomorrow - i promise. i will do it up all pretty and take a snap or two. it's really settling quite nicely - but my bangs are still wonky - they need to grow another curl or two before they look right. but i'm happy with it.

while we've been chatting i managed to get 5 pieces of digi paper designed - very fall like colors and i think i got some interesting textures. i think i figured out one neat trick - it's called PATIENCE. i have so much of it

Yes, I just had another email reminder but it'll run out before I get up and I'm too tired now. Which is probably best, come to think of it! Enough's enough, 1.30am...I'm cream crackered.

G'night all.

please please please everyone make a concerted effort to get your 8x8's done. i feel bad for saying this - but i don't feel we should start another challenge since this 8x8 obligation isn't completed. we're half way through September and i have only received from four people. it was set up as a "do it while you can" to get people thru the busy summer months, but the intention wasn't to drag it out for six months. so please try to get them done in the next week or two so i can get this sent off to Aluri. thanks.

I did mine!!!

Carolyn: I feel for you. If your FIL is having near misses you should report it. not only could he kill himself/mil he can hurt innocent families.

Pride is horrible and i wouldn't want to lose my icense either..it's a sign that you are losing control...but killing yourself or othrs is not good either.

okay so i thought i would share that i found BG's Urban Praire at michaels today in a paper pack, two sheets of true BG paper just not letter stickers or cb stickers (imo dont matter as much as the paper seeing as i have a stack of bg letter stickers i never seem to think of uses for). but i was excited about it, seeing as that line isn't avalible here or at any of the lss i have around me (so i've been drooling over this line since i first saw what BG was putting out this season) they also had graynola. just thought i would sahre

and isabelle what is elfster? i've never herd of it

im sending dirt, it wont be wet. just not sand unless i go grab some from the park and that's not really as cool as real sand, besides nothing will grow in it anyway....i'm still on for the dirt, and i guess i can work on a page for the book, hmph! and send it all at once.

i just went through all my scraps and made up a box for cards, and also a box for kailee she's so into cutting paper (kid sissors no blades involved) and gluing stuff down that she's driving me nuts so now she can have all my tiny scraps to make pages of her own in her own box away from all my stuff.

Jakki: I have ky practice cutting shapes out of my scraps with her 'safety' cutterbees (rounded tips) but wouldn't you know it...she actually caught the tip of her finger!!! She's fine but the blood scared her to death.

Now i let her cut shapes out on the cricut only

I had to go and buy her crayola glitter pens b/c she kept wanting to use my stickles!!!!! NOBODY touches my stickles.

speaking of which: we're going on week three now and I still haven't gotten them

K's sissors are some crayola safety sissors, but ther 100% plastic and wont cut a thing unless there perfectly lined up to cut. all kailee is really doing is holding them in her hands and telling them to open and shut ... i think it fustrates her that she cant actually cut anything, lol ... but she's got all the little tiny scraps to play with and im sure in no time flat she'll have them all glued to something and asking for more

Morning all,

So, dh's and money?? What is it with their priorities??? Money is a little easier now I'm earning more and we have 1 less set of school fees to pay and I have wanted our stair bannisters replaced for a LONG time. They are 70's style and however we decorate the hall/stairs area it still looks naff in my opinion. It'd cost about £400 to replace them with nice spindles and I had a guy all lined up to do it after telling dh that I'd had a quote etc. Fine. But then, when I mentioned it again recently dh said that perhaps we should postpone it for a little while as our cash flow still isn't brilliant. Ok, point taken. Then today he says 'how about popping over to a nice furniture store nearby who are having a huge sale?' Well, we do need a new sofa but what's the point when the whole sitting room needs decorating first?? And if we have money for a sofa, how come we don't have money for the bannisters?

Anyway...what's everyone else up to today?

Good morning!

Carolyn, I know the feeling. Are you going to the furniture store, or are you still going to try to convince him about the banister? Thank you for your sweet comment in my gallery, too, by the way.

Kate, can't wait to see all the new freebie goodies! You are still scanning all the 8x8s to send to all, right? In that case I will do a page too. Will work on that ASAP.

OK gals I won't be on much until tonight....i have to clean the house, finish laundry, last minute pack, take cats to vet, go to a riding lesson, paint my new trellis and get it up, etc.

All before 5 pm b/c then we have a friend coming for dinner (i think we're eating out tonight!)

ONE MORE DAY!!!!!

I'm going to miss chatting with you...maybe dh will bring his puter and i can log on before bed to give you my adventure stories (great place to look back on for journaling!!!)

Aluri - yes, I will scan all the LO's so everyone can at least see them, and have the option to have them printed if they'd like. The ones I've gotten are just wonderful!!

Carolyn - you ask such a mystical question - and one that eludes an answer. I watched my parents struggle with the exact same thing, and am waiting for dh and I to experience it as well. Although - we do keep our money separate - he just pays me a set amount every month towards the bills. We haven't made any really "big" purchases as of yet...but when we got our new TV, or he built my computer, we just pay each other whatever is agreed upon. Once those kinds of things (bills, etc) are taken care of, his $$ is his $$ and mine is mine. It works, for us. I think if our money was pooled, he would then have grounds to question my scrapping purchases, or I would have grounds to question his electronics purchases, and that just doesn't sound like much fun to me.

So what is everyone doing today? Not much here, ds has basketball practice, and I'll be doing the customary shuttling, laundry (only have two more loads to do WOOHOO) and maybe a little cleaning should my scrapping not get in the way Need to get some birthday cards made...a few birthdays coming up soon!!!

I bet you don't have time to miss us Glenda!

Kate, we still have separate accounts but always discuss major stuff although dh is really in charge of the money as he's always earned it really while I was at home for many years. I could just get the bannisters done but I don't like to do that as it's a bit of a slap in the face to him really. He'll come round...it's just a matter of letting him think it's his idea.

You've hit the nail on the head, dear sweet lady. That phrase right there is MAGIC - and should be included in the manual all new brides receive. Of course, around here, most of the good ideas ARE IN FACT his...LOL. I am very impulsive, while DH will research toilet paper on the internet for six months before he buys it.

LOL...it good that he does it, and I know that...but it drives me crazy sometimes. I remember when we were dating he was here one weekend and we went to look for a dryer as mine had died. We went to a used appliance store that has been around since I was a kid, and they had one that just jumped out at me, all new parts, brand name and the price was right. So I bought it on the spot. He began to pace, beads of sweat popped on his forehead, I seriously thought he was going to pass out! I have no desire to go to 20 different stores to look at stuff - I needed it - I bought it - done. I've come around a little bit and just grin and bear the research part to make him feel better - but man it can be painful.

oh, I know. Dh will do the same. Actually I'm not against checking out prices myself but when he starts it brings the worst in me and I'm more likely to go on impulse.

You must be getting psyched, Glenda!!!

I'm making truffles this morning, then it's off to a friend's BBQ. Her hubby just came back after spending a year in Korea (he's in the marines). We hope not to stay long, as it'll mostly be their families. And I (let alone poor DH!) won't know too many people. So see you later!
