I have 3 girls, and probably 90% of their layouts have flowers in some shape or form! In addition to using them as truly part of the design, it's my go-to embellishment when a layout just needs a little something extra.

For my son, I will use the occasional boyish colored flower, but I would love to have a quick no-brainer go-to embellishment. Suggestions?

I use chipboard, found items like metal washers, cut out items from patterned paper , twine, and much more. I tend to make my own stuff though instead of relying on store bought items.

And circles too.

Anything grungy.

I use the stars also. I think of them as boys flowers.

Yeah, I'm not into flowers on my ds's pages (though I do use them occasionally). I definitely use stars a lot, buttons, and brads too.

I would say any distinct shapes (starts, cirlces, squares, etc) in primary colors. (Gives me a chance to use the punches.) Also I use my pinking shears or draw ZIG zag lines.

for my boy pages I always turn to buttons. If I want to make them look 'rough' I ink or sandpaper them.

I also use lots of stars, circles, buttons and brads, but I also have stickers and stamps of bugs, worms and frogs.

I use chipboard arrows, covered with pp. Stars work well too.

I used a chipboard heart on a recent layout about my teen son and our cat. It's an outline and I painted it black and put a piece of denim colored patterned paper behind it. It's for my book. If it was for his I would have put something different than a heart.

Mine are OK with flowers but they also like pieced pictures on their pages also. When my middle boy lost his tooth I wanted to do the Tooth Fairy. He helped me pick out the paper and bling for the TF. It got kind of funny how much direction he gave me. I guess he just wanted to make sure that HIS TF was not wearing pink (I guess he has seen me looking at to many princess pages in the gallery)

This cracked me up:

I also use office supplies - they tend to be more masculine - like paper clips - file tabs - or any plain metal embellishment.

I also have 3 girls and then a boy so I can relate...I never use flowers on his page. My boy is all boy and would rather rip flowers up then smell them....I use a lot of chipboard pieces too and keep his more simple, but one thing that really works on his pages is a lot of the hang tags that come on his clothes...many have the little metal chains and I also use washers and big brads and cut up denim...I love doing his pages because they usually turn out more simple.

I use stars, circles, arrows, anything grungeboard. I sometimes use flowers but not too often.

Here's a tip: cut off the tips of your daisy flowers to create something that looks like a sprocket.

Cool, huh?
