This swap is for handmade embellishments I call medallions. What I mean is something like this example I made:
Let It Snow medallion By Disneylisa

Of course medallions could be many different shapes and there is no specific size although mine are generally in the 3x3 vicinity. Mini medallions (used for belly bands) are ~1.5" sq./diameter.

There's really a lot that can be done with these both in the center and to dress up the edges even if they are not fancy - stitching, paper piercing, inking, stickles dots, little jewels, etc. If you have a diecut machine there are all kinds of dies available or I know a great site which has hundreds of GSD frame files available. They can also be made with corner punches, again I can recommend a great site. And you can even get creative and make your own.

How do you use them? Well, they work great on cards which is what I actually made this for when the idea struck. Most could probably be mounted and made into a library pocket. If we do a mini medallion category they can be put on ribbon or bellybands and used on criss cross cards, across photos, even tags, etc. Or of course you can just place it on your page as a decorative element.

Requirements:
1. Regular medallions must be at least 3 layers and at least one cannot be a simple square/rectangle/circle/o val, mini medallions should be 2 layers if possible.
2. The center should have a design, preferably 3D. If stamped, please emboss, color, etc.
3. The medallion should be further embellished with some doodles, piercing, stitching, bling, etc.

Usual swap rules apply. By this I mean the following:

EFFORT - Please put your best effort into this and only send things you would like to receive. I am happy to allow beginners but would suggest that you post your items prior to “mass producing” in order to get feedback. (It was something I did a lot of in my early days and often I got nice suggestions that were very easy to implement. Simple things that made ordinary work look much better.) I also encourage everyone to post their items so that others may be inspired. Of course I will link any I know about to this post.

Commitment - Be realistic and only sign up for what you can complete on time without sacrificing quality. Please check in every week to 10 days. More often as the due date nears if I do not yet have your items. Also please let me know when you send your items and when you receive them back.

Please sign the back of your items so that you can get proper credit for your work. You do not need to send in the items for yourself.

Due date - This will be due AT MY HOUSE Thursday January 15. Please mail at least a week early unless going by priority.

PACKING - It is not necessary to bag each item individually, but if there are pieces that might fall off or scratch other items it would probably be a good idea to do so. Put all items for EACH GROUP in a separate bag with your name, screen name, and group name.

Remember that the items you get back might be larger then the ones you send. Be sure to use a large enough package. I will reuse all packing unless another envelope is provided or damage makes it necessary to use a new one. Bubble mailers are preferred. If using a regular envelope please use cardboard to provide stability and bubble wrap to protect your items. Please write your screenname above your return adress.

MAILING - Include the amount of postage it took to send plus 2 extra 17 cent stamps (unused postage will be returned). If your items are very light or don't have much embellishment you might want to add more. Please do not send metered postage as it is not accepted. Also include a self addressed return label large enough to cover the address you wrote to send it to me.

We will try this with traditional themed groups and see if we get takers. If not, we might have to combine things. I have included a grab bag group. It will be open to any theme including those not listed. The reasoning for this group is that sometimes the paper size lends itself to making 6 of an item but there are only 5 in each group. Feel free to send the extra one here. Or maybe you have embellishments for only 3 things, not enough for an actual group. Send them here.

Lisa,
How big would the mini ones be? I have these cuttlebug dies and the square ones are and inch and a half. If these are the right size I will try something this week.

jci.

I am waiting for my hubby to bring home the sanding block he made so that I can finish making the centre I was mentioning earlier. I have the die cut embossed but I need to sand it so that the other color comes through.

Lisa,
Approximately how big is the centre image in your example? I picked up some glittered christmas die cuts today and I am thinking of using them for this but I need to know the approx. size in the centre.

Thanks

Can't say for sure as I'm at work right now but I think it was probably .75-1" wide and about 1.5" tall.

Thanks that helps, I have these really cute candy canes in the package that could be embelished a bit further for this. I think they will turn out nice but I will have to see. DH still hasn't brough home the sanding block and my dies may be too big (I will see when I get the files) but I was playing with Dhalia flowers for another SWAP and came up with this. Would this work for the centre? Obviously it still needs other layers and further embelishement but I am just trying something out and wanted some input.

If they aren't too big they'll be great. I love teabag folding and they certainly would work well on a card.

They aren't that big, I think the pink mat is 1 and 3/4" across, the small circles for the leaves were very small and hard to fold (turned out nice though). I love this type of fold myself.

I've done that type before. It does get hard to make them small, that's why I wondered. It looks like you did a very nice job on them though.

CI, I am done with the spring and almost done with the Christmas. I have a question about the grab bag. I made some of the mini black ones I posted for that group and I made six but used two different brads for the centre. They are similar in that they are both the same pewter metal but a different design. Is this okay or should I create something completly different and send it with 3 black ones. I made them becuase you liked them and I even got a gallery comment them. I enjoy making them and it is no problem to make 3 more.

I'm done and I just have to make a trip to the bank for US $. I have made 4 for each group (except for the grab bag). Should I wait to send them to see if the groups are combined? I hope we get more signups these are really fun to make. I will post pictures later.

Ok, now just a question, in the groups that you have 3 types listed do we make all three or is that just an idea of what you want to see? Also I am in Canada so how do you want the postage sent to you?

Those are just ideas. Other things are fine too as long as it fits the theme.

As for postage, we have to use US postage to mail it back to you. Some folks there have access to US stamps (I think they live close to the border and travel across it to buy some occasionally.) I'll pm you with some alternatives.

Nothing came in last night. Just bumping up so I can find it easier.

Got them today, thanks.

Also got medallions from Drayia. Thanks so much for the extra one. I love it.

I'll update the first post tomorrow. Christmas and spring are the only groups all in so far.

I am glad you like it. I main love/talent is crossstitching. I have been cross stitching since I was 8. I think it is great that I can marry my two favorite crafts together.

I noticed on the first post that there is nothing beside my grab bag items. Did they come in with the rest of my stuff?

Sorry, I'm sure they did. Just missed that. I'm going to update with what came in yesterday so I'll fix it now.

OK, some didn't get mailed as expected. I don't think there is mail today because of MLK day, so they should be out tomorrow and here by Thursday.
