Current Challenge, hosted by Kate:

Next challenge idea...due February 6th: Design a LO who's theme is centered around a favorite quote/poem/saying. No photos of people allowed. Make it inspiring...something you would consider hanging on a wall to look at as an affirmation when your day seems awful. Think of it as a BOM layout.

Just back from a meeting at Steph's college about her exchange visit in Feb. It sounds as though she's going to have a fun trip and then we have a German girl coming here for a week in March.

Sorry about the hormnones Lauri and Glenda.

So how many still want to do a mosaic LO for the challenge is everyone done who wants to?

That sounds fun! Do you speak a little German?

I still want to do the challenge. My plan was to start it tonight but I'm exhausted!

I speak a little German Izzy. You know, this country don't teach languages very well I believe. Most other countries speak English far better, and earlier, than we speak any other language. It's a shame.

OK this may be a tmi question but...

Now we all know i suffer iwth endometriosis which causes heavy / painful periods but i never had issues during ovulation. I came off the Lupron shot in August and got my first cycle in September and since then my ovulation is as painful as a period. I cramp badly and it even hurts in my cervix area.

But my periods have been light and only painful for a day instead of all week.

I am in the process of changing OB/Gyn (I want to start seeing a woman) so i don't want to call his office because he'll make me come in.

Unfortunately there is nothing I can say to help you. I wish I could.

I had a fabulous doctor who really and truly helped me after years and years and a decade of pain. Finding a different doctor to help you may be the right answer. It certainly was for me.

Hello,

Big day for you guys isn't it. No doubt our news will be full of ceremony pics too.

Glenda I'm not quite sure what youwere asking or if you just wanted to know what we thought about getting a new Dr. I don't really know how your system works but if you'd feel more comfortable with a female doc and you can get to see one fairly quickly then go for it. I'm lucky never to have had any issues with my periods really. I was aware of ovulating and sometimes I did get crampy type pain but usually it was only on and off for half a day or so. SOrry I can't offer much comfort.

Good morning, girls.

Glenda, I agree with Carolyn. If the changeover to a new doctor would be quick, then of course wait to ask her. But if not, then perhaps you should use your current doctor one last time for this.

morning all!

My current GYN is a specialist in pelvic pain. He has been treating me sicne I moved here and the treatments worked for a while (very different treatments) and now that i've used all my 'chemical' options and have chosen to stop that he has basically dismissed me since i won't do what he says. He wants me to have a hysterectomy and I'm just not ready

I was already in medical menopause as a treatement and just don't want to deal with it permanently yet. So now when he talks to me it's abrupt and dismissive. He knows i have pain and his exams are almost brutal. So i'm going with a female doc that half my office sees.

Thanks for the support

G, sorry to hear your GYN is not supportive of your decision. Hope you can see someone else quickly.

I found an OB. My first appointment is March 11 and the best thing is that he works at one the best maternity in the province (ranked #2). The funny thing is that I didn’t even know this hospital existed before and it’s only 15 minutes from where we live. Montreal has two pediatric hospitals (1 on the French side and 1 on the English side) and I thought the closest hospital for me was the Montreal Children Hospital (the English side). Well it turns out that there’s a closer one and it’s specializes in obstetric. It’s a tiny hospital but with all the latest technologies and only private rooms (with Jacuzzi / therapeutic tube, bed for the dad, etc.). You can even deliver in the room if there’s no complication, the baby stays with you and there’s no visiting hours. After I googled the name of my new OB, I found out that I was very lucky to get a doctor from this hospital as they are highly in demand.

Izzy brought up a question for me now. All the baby hospital stuff she talked about. Private room, bed for dad, baby never leaves if all is okay, deliver in the room. Are pretty standard here well I'm delivering in different hospitals but all the stuff is the same. I guess I just thought it was standad. although this time I get to have one of my ob doctors on staff when I deliver, not just luck out that my ob,s partner is on staff the day I deliver.

Different hospital different rules.

Some allow you to stay with the baby no matter what (mine doesn't even have a nursery) some you can not stay with your baby alone if you have c/s. Some don't allow visitors unless they are accompanied by a person with a wrist ban(normally your dh). There are a ton of different restrictions that I have seen at just the hospitals in MY neighborhood!

Congrats Izzy: Sounds like you have a great doc and options! I had a birthing room as well. But then after i had to be moved to the mother baby ward and got a private room but there was only a rocker for Bret and no bed. it was ok though because i was greedy with baby and didn't want to give her to anyone LOL

I delivered at Chesapeake General across from my OB office and the hospital was WONDERFUL. Of course as many time as they had to stop my premature labor i knew the entire OB staff by the time I delivered!

You could choose to keep the baby with you 24/7 but they did take them when they felt you needed rest or if baby needed testing.

The nurses were fantastic and light hearted. I went through a PPD episode my 2nd night and the nurse heard me crying from down the hall and came and sat with me for almost 2 hours until i calmed down.

J, it really depends on the hospital here. Usually newer or renovated maternities are like that but in some cases you might have to share a room, the baby sleeps in the nursery at night and the dad doesn’t have a bed. Visit hours also vary a lot between hospitals. Each hospital has its ways of working and their own vision. But what I also learn is that at Lasalle (the hospital my doctor deliver) only has OB on staff whereas other hospitals have OBs and GPs (or family doctors) that deliver. So if you deliver outside office hours, the doctor on service might not be an OB.

I wish our rooms were a bit larger, 2 visitors and you start feeling crowded but it is a really small and friendly hospital so I can't complain.

Jakki - which hospital are you going to be at?

bran im getting to deliver at mary birch women's hospital, and i delivered kailee over at scripps la jolla. my ob is in one of the office buildings right next door, which sucks because I have to pay for parking ever time. but there are 5 ob's in the practice (something like that) and they take turns being on staff at the hospital for deliveries and they make sure that you meet all of them in your monthly visits .. pretty cool

izzy kailee's ob was like that, all the doctors took turns at the hospital so you never knew who you would get come delivering. i lucked out and got my doctor's parner who i had seen at the office before. but it wasn't that bad having to see different doctors.

I'm jealous of your purchase Becky. My sister (not the DMB sister) is mad at me and hasn't spoken to me on almost 2 weeks...and I really missed her cricut when I was scrapping the other day.

OK so i've almost hit my first goal in my diet. I wanted to be 135 by 1/31 and i'm down to 135.7 but i'm STARVING

I really want to be 135 by the time I go to NY on February 18th.

So i have lost 5 in 3 weeks and i have 3 more weeks to lose the next 5.

I do miss her...and terribly.I actually don't know what to do about her.

It's kinda a long story...I'll try to sumamrize...about 10yrs ago (give or take a yr or two) my sister (who I think has lots of issues) had a dog. The dog had to stay at my mom's house almost all the time because the dog had separation anxiety and my sister refused to crate her. Well, my kids were also at my mom's quite a bit because she'd babysit while I finished school (THANK YOU MOM). Well, basically this dog bit 4 people (the mailman, a next door neighbor who came over once to let her out when my folks were gone for a day), my dd (barely a mark on the skin) and my ds who got bit about 1/2" below his eye and needed 2-3stitches.

After my kids both got bit my dh called the county to report the dog because he didn't want our kids around the dog or wanted her kids to get hurt either. The county wanted the dog confined for 72 hrs and my sister and her dh decided to put the dog down.

OK...so my older dog has had a bit of food agression lately because she's on a diet. She's also a stubborn alpha. Anyways, 2-3 weekends ago my dd had a friend spend the night and this girl was a whack job...we all celebrated when she left...she was a very rude little girl. Anyways...she had told me she got bit by my dog...and I didn't believe her. I asked her what happened and she described to me playing with the dog and bumping her mouth. She didn't have a scratch on her. My dog has growled but NEVER bitten anyone and she wouldn't unless we were in danger or she was protecting her house. She is an excellent watchdog.

Anyways...I was telling my sister about this little girl and how I was convinced there was no way my dog would've bit her. Needless to say...a few days later I get a NASTYgram from my sister via email about how she can't face me because I'm too much of a hypocrit because I have an agressive dog but I'm not KILLING her, but it's ok to make her KILL her dog all those years ago.

I haven't spoken to her since. I don't know what to say actually...I'm worried whatever I say to her will send her on another rage and she'll only be madder at me. I miss her terribly, we used to talk at least once/day. I really have no friends at all (IRL), she was my person I hung with.

I'm just beside myself with the thoguht of never speaking to her again...

and yes...I did miss her cricut this weekend lol

no problem...i dump saga all the time.

I think you should just email her back and say

#1) My Dog didn't BITE anyone and cause them to get stitches. My dog hasn't been put in quarantine. If she had I would've made the same hard decision that you did.

#2) No one MADE you do anything. You and your husband made that decision. You did the right and safe thing . Just because I haven't put my dog down doesn't mean I WOULDN'T to stop it from being a true danger.

Glenda, good for you on your diet progress! Sounds like you'll reach your 135 way ahead of schedule.

Nancy, so sorry to hear about the argument with your sister. It sounds to me like your dogs are nothing alike, and so you are absolutely not a hypocrite. Hopefully she'll come back around soon. Have you tried calling her to say you miss her? Maybe she'd be willing to agree to disagree and move on?

nancy sorry about your sister being a stinker. my littlest dog also an alpha bit. has food aggression issues and seriously growls and snaps when you go near her food (the two bigger boys tend to steal it from her) but she is not the type to attack. and stitches with other bite aggressiveness is an issue that needs to be taken care of. so its her throwing a tantrum i would say.

im dealing with a 3 year old terrorist .. and it seems like i am loosing ..... what happened to my angel sleeping girl???

Morning all,

Aluri, thanks so much for all the gallery love - I really appreciate your time doing that

Nancy what a shame you've fllen out with yoru sister, especially over something that happened so long ago. I'm not sure what suggestions I'd make except that sometimes writing a letter is a good idea. Actually seeing the words on paper may give her reason to reflect on it more subjectively. Or perhaps you could try saying that you feel that the situations are quite different but that perhap's it'd be better not to discuss it anymore but just move on. I hope she will.

I have made Steph a doc's appointment this afternoon as she has a horrid little lump under her neck and it hurts her to swallow. I'm a bit un-nerved actually but I'm sure it's just an infection of some sort and hopefully will be easily sorted.

Catch you all later.

Glenda - were you interest in Basic Grey papers? I have other random stuff too, quite a lot of it is slightly distressed style although there's some bolder stuff too. I really can't be ar***d to photograph it to be honest....do you want to take a chance on me sending you some? Anyone else want paper before I box up this stash??

I'm not interested in more paper...I have enough for an entire lifetime lol I REALLY need to start working on dwindling down my stash.

I'm sorry Steph isn't feeling well Carolyn...I hope it's something minor that some meds will heal quickly for her.

The deal with my sister...I'm being a chicken about emailing her, but I need too. She's one of those people that her way is the only way and I'm worried ANYTHING I say will get blown out of proportion and make things even worse...I'm wondering if I should just email her the 3 simple words of I miss you and see what she does. I know any mention of the dog situation is only going to make it worse.

I'm sure there's nothing to lose...I'm just scared to do it. Our other sister who I've been trying to keep out of it seems to think she'll come around eventually, but my concern will be that her eventually may be several years.

Yes, time flies and family are worth going the extra mile for aren't they. At least if you try you can say that you did your best to make up.

Nancy - it can't get any worse than her not speaking to you, right? So...email her. It sucks to always have to be the bigger person in situations like this, but alas, it's what we do sometimes to maintain relationships. I hope she responds positively.

Carolyn - Hugs to Steph...hope she's feeling well soon and that the doctor says it's nothing serious.

I owe lots of gallery love...bad Kate...promise to get to it in the next few days.

Last night we had school conferences...and although K is doing ok, he's a little behind due to our vacation and not putting in the effort I think he should to get caught up. Add to that a project he worked on pretty hard before we left has somehow ended up MIA (teacher saw it...commented on it...but now that it's time to grade it, it is missing). So we had to redo that last night, in addition to math and science homework. So yesterday I literally went to work, drove home to pick K up to go to his conference, came home, ate, and helped with homework until 9:30 pm. I hate nights like that! His sports activities are starting to wind up a bit, he has a basketball tournament this weekend (2 games on Saturday and 1 on Sunday), and baseball practice begins next week. Time to put the cab light on top of the car...

I really need to win the lottery. I don't want to go to work anymore...

Have a great day everyone...

I suppose you're right...I'm still gonna need the courage to send her something..I have a felling a simple note of three words won't be considered making up in her eyes...although I'm not quite sure what she's exactly expecting of me...

Well, I need to go get ready for work. I'll catch up with everyone later.

that it is...it's frustrating with math especially because he's bringing things home that are now becoming quite the challenge for me. it's not that i can't figure them out necessarily, the problem lies in that i get the answer in some kooky unorthodox way that i cannot translate to him that makes any sense. and god forbid he stay after school and get help on his own...that's one of those "man gene" things like not stopping and asking for directions!!!

I know, kids logic beats me sometimes - male or female! Steph is doing maths and I can't even say half the words of the particular elements she's learning, let alone solve the problems! Now ask me something more language based and I've a better chance but Maths at that standard is way beyond me!

I asked the teacher last night about how I might find resources to better help him...and I got the impression from not really "what" she said, but "how" she said it, that this is the curriculum they are given, they don't like it much, and there really isn't a book, a website, etc that she found to be especially helpful. Repetition was how they were going to beat it into the kids head. I haven't seen much repetition, though, it's like they learn, quiz, learn, test and move on zip zip zip. I'm not prepared really for the day when I have to say "I can't help you"...

I don't know wht your system is like obviously but it sounds a bit familiar in that's how it's done in our state schools. The teachers can cover the subject, however briefly, and put a tick in that box as having 'done' it. That's part of the reason we choose a private school as the teachers have a lot more flexibilty on how they teach adn cover the curriculum. Also with small classes they get about 3 times as much teacher time as they would do normally. I have to say that I feel sometimes repetition is the only way to learn certain things. Tables for example - I know mine better than the girls do and I'm sure it was endless repition at home and at junior school.

Our private schools are run by the church - the Catholic Church no less. That's our only option. I'm not knocking them in any way...but...how can that be our only choice??

Oh my..look at the time!! This will make the third day this week I will be walking into work late.

nancy sorry about your sister being a stinker. my littlest dog also an alpha bit. has food aggression issues and seriously growls and snaps when you go near her food (the two bigger boys tend to steal it from her) but she is not the type to attack. and stitches with other bite aggressiveness is an issue that needs to be taken care of. so its her throwing a tantrum i would say.

The terrible twos lEad to Tyrant threes. But beware the 4s were worst for me

im dealing with a 3 year old terrorist .. and it seems like i am loosing ..... what happened to my angel sleeping girl???

She needs to get past her own issues before you can have a relationship. If she's not willing to forgive and forget you will never have an honest relationship.

I have that problem with my husband when it comes to balancing the checkbook LOL

If you know you have the right answer just let him have it and tell him to work the problem backwards till he figures it out himself.

we have the same problem here. I'm not thrilled sending Kyleigh to the public schools in our neighborhood (there are 3 to choose from) so we're applying for an accelerated program school that is out by my job instead. If she doesn't get into that one Bret wants to send her to private school. She goes to a Christian Daycare now. But all the grade school private schools are catholic and we're basic Christian / Presbyterian. So our tuition is higher since we don't attend their parish!

I don't care what religion she learns as long as she believes in God, Jesus and living morally. I just don't want to have to pay for it LOL

Glenda, I'm trying to remember now.....Periphery, Urban Couture, Infuse, Scarlett's Letter, Phoebe, Perhaps, Stella Ruby, plus much older ones. I can't say how many from each though as they're all mixed. Also LOADS of BG plains/solids

I wish we didn't have to pay but we felt it was the only way we could be sure they'd have the best brought out of them.

Carolyn, I could really spend all day in your gallery. I had a lovely time, no need for thanks! Hoping Steph's appointment goes well and that it is an easy fix!

Kate, the teacher knows she saw his project and still made him do it over again?? How is that fair?? I would be furious. It is a real privilege to be taken out of school for a vacation. I hope he can find the motivation to catch up.

OK so I am doing 2 mini scrapbooks for Kyleigh's Nana & Pop Pop (give them seperate books). I was going to try and do them for our trip to NY but then I remembered she's going to be spending almost everyday with them and they're going to a broadway play together so I'm going to hold off until Granparents Day or Mother's/Father's Day

My Question is...has anyone ever worked with the Making Memories Noteworthy board book?

When using thin PP whats the best adhesive? Liquid glue will cause ripples.

Poking my head in...work is super busy these days. I would jsut use your tape runner...that's what I use 85% of the time.

i have adhesive tab runner, vellum runner and dots as well as spray adhesive. I will probably go with the runners on the pp and back it up with the spray adhesive diretly on board portion.

I think the inside is simple cardstock pages so i only have to worry about the front and back covers

Wow, you girls were chatty!

Good Morning.

I am really really really tired (Braden is just being a nightmare sleeper lately) so I don't know how much I will be on.

.......

Nancy - Crazy family members really suck! You clearly want to continue your relationship with her so you are just going to have to suck it up and explain that you are really really sorry she felt like you were being a hypocrit but that there is no proof the dog actually bit anyone and that it seems to you that the bigger issue is that she is still very hurt about losing her dog. You know that she knows she did the right thing but it still must have been very hard and you are sorry she is still upset about that. Does she want to go get coffee and look at the puppies in the mallstore this weekend? OR we can go see that horrid little dog movie!!

Good morning!

Nancy, I'm so sorry for the mess with your sister!

LauriB, I think you should call. If she wrote you it means that she was reaching for your support.

Becky, YAY for the Silhouette! I have one since March 2007 and love it. You're the 4th in our group to be a proud owner of a Silhouette. I know of a few good websites that offer free files for it. I can pm them to you if you're interested.

Glenda spray mount would work but but the edges if your covering them will be tricky. I tend to use modge podge on that stuff

Kate I so feel you on the school issue. Some kids thrive in public school while others are just ripped apart. I have seen it a lot first hand snd really am unsure what to dos bout it when kailee gets there. I would find a way to teach Kyle the math problems and how to solve them and just not worry about the curriculum as long SS he knows how to do the math right. I have to pound that into my dh brain right now he's scared of college math. And I keep telling him he'll he'l be okay. I remember my professor was cool he showed us 5 ways to answer every problem and as Long and we got the right answer consecutively it was all good
