Hanging By a Moment

Hello everyone!

My name is Grace and I am inspired by an old scraproom challenge I participated in last year (the 28 day challenge) to organize, decorate and clean up those scrap areas. It seems there is no such challenge this year and I would like to step up and take the lead since I have a new home and my first scrap room not corner or closet to decorate and to set up.

We will begin Feb. 1st 2010 it will end when you have a more beautiful and functional space. It is just for fun and to make scrapping easier.

Who would like to join me in this project? The lvl of commitment depends on how much scrap stuff you have. Here is what I will put forth to help you along the way.

1) One weekly organizational project
2) One weekly creative project (mostly decor or alteration and others)
3) Two or Three Mini Weekday Challenges
4) Fun and inspiration with everything from room colors and decor to organization and storage options ON A BUDGET!!!
5) Encouragement to finally get things organized to make it easier to scrap!

To sign up you will need to do/answer the fallowing:

1) Name/user name
2) Type of scraping area (closet, corner, room etc.)
3) Your biggest problem area that is hard to keep organized
4) The link to your new album to keep your pics in (create a new album in your gallery to upload all of the before and after pics, ingenious ideas and problem area pics)

So come and join me in cleaning up our areas and making the scraproom a place that will inspire creativity and allow us to crop till we drop.

I have my own scrapping room that I've been organizing for the last 6 months.
My problem is that as my embellishment collection grows, I don't know where to put things. This photo shows my brads, flowers, chipboard, ribbon, and much, much, more...loaded on top of the orginal organized items. I usually find an embellie that would have been perfect for a lo AFTER the lo is finished. I'd like to eliminate the clear cropper folder.

I am going to get to know you all a little bit better, figure out what your wants and your needs are for the space. Before we start diving into our scrapbooking mess I would like you to take some time thinking of how you want your scraparea to look and feel.

Take a moment and look through the scraprooms pics on this site or google Scraproom images. See if there is something that resembles your area, ie. corner, desk, room... etc. Also look at the decor and colors. Can you find photos with the color/decor style and space challenges? Save these photos to your computer for your inspiration and we will be doing something with them later.

Pre-Challenge Challenge #1: This week I challenge you to find pictures that work each of the fallowing.

1) Colors - What colors would you like to incorporate into your space. Even if you cant paint this is important for alteration projects, if you want to paint... now is the time to do so before we start the organization process Feb 1st.

2) Decor Style - What type of decor style (vintage, retro, girlie, contemporary) will you be looking to achieve. WE all create beautiful things when we scrapbook why not make it a beautiful space that will inspire us?

3) Space size - Find a photo that shows the value of the space you have... for example if you are working with a closet... find a photo that has great organizational solutions for that type of space.

Any questions? I would suggest if you do save them and share the photos you give the rightful owner props in your photo title or description with the link to the original site.

Challenge Completed:
Nati
Dana
Zandra
Kelly
Melissa
Grace
Patty

PS. Please remember I will be having your scrounge around you house to help decorate or find alteration projects. So they should cost very little to do some of the decor/color projects.

Dana - great to have you on board! I am glad we are getting people to join up. The more the merrier, we will share ideas and inspire one another. I too have a habit of reorganizing. Do you reorganize within the items ... like your ribbons or do you tend to leave the ribbons HOW they are organized but move them around the room?

I do a little of both, Grace! (ok, a LOT of both!)

I will be spouting off a lot about adopting SJ's "by color" organization method. I finally decided to leap there.

So,last night I re-did all my smaller embellies to combine by color, still keeping some "type" in there, but letting go of some of the OCD specificity I had baked into my "by type" method. I was really sick about it - every size and shape had it's own spot.

I am trying to get to where I have lots of kits done for myself to take with me places. I love having a room, but seem to be most productive when away from home where I can't just "play" with my stash and move it around all the time.

I am hoping that I will get to a place where I can stop trying to make it all better all the time and can just USE it. ha!

Welcome Daisie! I am very excited to have you!

One thing you will need to keep in mind more then others (who have a lot of stock) is to make sure you allow room to grow. For example when we organize our chipboard you need to make sure you have space to add more to your stock.

Dana, I fully understand what you are talking about. I finally settled on the way I liked my setup in my old house after moving a few things around since I took the final pic of the space in a post on page 1. Then we bought a house and I had to pack it all up... LOL.

Please feel free to share your before pics. If you have any questions on things like color choices or furniture arrangements I can help. I have studied interior design, the basics of Feng Shui and I used to write articles for Scrapbook news and review about Color theory (how colors can improve your scrapbook pages by the emotional and physical responses they trigger in the brain.) I ma not an expert but I can share with you what I know.

Sadly I have a set color since my husband doubtly would want to change the colors in the office since partly were his choice. I would do a lime green and pink embellishments.. that's just because that my fav. color combo... but it's ok.. i can work around that issue..

2) Decor Style - What type of decor style (vintage, retro, girlie, contemporary) will you be looking to achieve. WE all create beautiful things when we scrapbook why not make it a beautiful space that will inspire us?

I'M ALL ABOUT GIRLIE!!! Everything has to be frufully and cute! but again.. as much as i wish this to be.. since i share the office with him.. I have to work with what i got.. which thankfully is a lot more than i thought.

3) Space size - Find a photo that shows the value of the space you have... for example if you are working with a closet... find a photo that has great organizational solutions for that type of space.

I can't really change the furniture even though i would love too.. but i think this is the type of room i would essentially want for myself i love the colors as well as the organizational containers!

Does anyone have suggestions for a source on paper by the roll? I need some white paper on a roll to do a temp "wall paper" job on my space. I am in an unfinished basement and want a super clean look, so I need white walls not the plywood, insultation and studs I have now...

Ideas?

colors - I am thinking of as much white as possible. I have some things that are wood that I won't paint and some wall pockets that are soft pink, so may work in a bit of pink here and there -

here are some current faves:

White drawers scraproom

super white room

I like a bit of contemporary with some vintage accents here and there.

I think I really want super clean and "put away" - like drawers, doors and maybe some curtains on shelves that are currently open. I had a whole room layout done with all my stuff in view, but I am changing my mind about that lately.

I am going to buy white photo boxes and white 12x12 storage boxes so I can keep it really clean looking all over. I have some old furniture to paint and probably need to find some fabric for skirtings and curtains - thinking maybe a white with some soft pink and will definitely make it something washable.

I want to be sure that almost anything I do is mobile - I will want to move it out and back into the room when we actually *do* finish the room.

Nati - I think you could still add those colors to the space on your side if that works for you and the hubby. That blue would look great with both the pink and green accents. I saw that room too Nati and I love it.

Dana - I think the white with pink is so sweet. I really like that second link you gave.

I know walmart sells it by the roll for shipping and packing wrapping. I used it one year to make Christmas wrapping paper. But the rolls there are not that large so I am not sure how many you would need to cover the walls in your space.

I may try this. I have several areas that could use some work. I'm never happy how my embellies are.

If you have a full service meat department in your grocery store, they may have paper by the roll. Or you can find in a school supply magazine.
Check with a teacher:) Good luck.

amazingly, I did a search on that big retail site that specialized in books - and they had 40" by 300' rolls of "table cover paper" for about $14. I posted about it last night but think it got blocked due to the mention of the site. with free shipping, too. already ordered.

silly b/c sb.com doesn't carry that product.

ok nati I do love the cricut cutter--I recently bought a new one another brand from m's and its supposed to be bigger and better I guess I couldnt figuer out how to work it so I am using old faithful but I love it

grace the black things dont stack on each other. they are the ones from joanns I like the top part of them the drawers but i dont really like the bottom drawers because they dont just slide out the close like ifyou wanted to take them out and walk with them the stuff is enclosed inside. its good for storage but I like to be able to just pull the drawer out and see whats there not have to pull it all the way out and open it. dh and I are talking about the shelving possible above my tables all around me. some for ribbon for sure!

TIP OF THE DAY!!! (#1) - We are all on a budget these days and don't have a lot of $$$ to spare. Search on Craig's list, free cycle, thrift shops and garage sales for deals you cant pass up. Remember it can always be painted or altered to match your color or room decor.

Zandra - Shelves will really open up your space. It will help you with so many storage problems. They don't have to be expensive. Find them second hand and re-paint them if needed. The key with shelves I have found it first decide what you would like to put on them so you know if you need a narrow shelf for jars of buttons or a deep shelf for paper or albums. Good luck finding them. It will be a great improvement.

Take a moment and look through the scraprooms pics on this site or google Scraproom images...

I haven't had time, but when I get the chance, I need to pull out my books & search my favorites in My Gallery. I think today will be a good day for just that.

1) Colors - Mainly Black & White.

I'd like to incorporate some pops of color! Possibly incorporate some Teal, Pink, Seagreen, etc. (see below)

2) Decor Style - Whimsical, clean & contemporary.

My inspiration is going to be...Alice In Wonderland!

I'd like to create some collage art & or find a few fun pieces online for my brand new collection!

3) Space size - 14 x 13.

If (& when) I finally get my room clean, I will have quite a bit of room. The space has a lot of potential!

I had a friend who had some. I believe she found it at a School Supply Store.

Hope That Helps!

p.s. For the record, Martha Stewart is forever using that type of paper. I wonder if she might have a source listed on her site? Just a thought!

I don't know if you've found any paper, but you can usually buy end rolls of paper from the newspaper for very little $$.

Pre-Challenge Challenge #1:

1) Colors - What colors would you like to incorporate into your space. Well my colors are black, white, and a bright blue. here is an example I made this for the last challenge its on the door to my room.
Scrap room sign By Northernmemories

2) Decor Style - What type of decor style (vintage, retro, girlie, contemporary) will you be looking to achieve. I have no clue but the sign would be an example I guess but most of all it has to be functional

3) Space size - Find a photo that shows the value of the space you have... I have 1/2 a room and I am working around a big structure that is not coming down anytime soon. So I have made it work at the moment. One side has peg board to hang things from and another side is my ribbon storage as you can see in this picture.
After #6 By Northernmemories
However, This was from about feb 28 2009 I have a lot more ribbon now lol here is the link to my creative chaos album (my rooms name :))
http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...
I think I will just add to this for this years challenge if that is ok?

Here are a few links...

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:// images.me...

This one is a tiny closet and a small corner...

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:// thehearto...

http://orgjunkie.com/wp-content/uploads/20 09/04/craft-c...

Daisie - Does your desk fit into the closet? Or do you work on the table and store your stuff in the closet? Also google Craft closets or closet organization... what you see for food or sewing storage and organization can be used for scrapbooking too.

I need this.

I am Patty or scrapbooking teacher. I have part of the basement. I share the family computer and tool space with my husband. I can't motivate him to change his space, I need to screen it. Our basement could flood. The bottom foot of space is unusable and I must work to store more things in waterproof boxes. I do not store albums in the space. I have been working for the last month since I moved in to organize some things, but I keep moving things around. I need a place for works in progress. They clutter up usable working space. My album is called scraproom improvements. the worst trouble spot--shared space By Scrapbookingteacher

Woo hoo! Welcome Mommy!!! Everyone, Sue is my mother who lives several states away. She is the one who taught me how to scrapbook about 15 years ago cause she started to sell CM. She had to stop for a while and two years ago when she was out visiting I was creating a page for the ABC challenge and got her hooked again, only with SB.com... she can't stop. LOL.

embellishment mess By Tdn823

Here is my mess.

Tina/tdn823
I have my own scrapping room that I've been organizing for the last 6 months. My problem is that as my embellishment collection grows, I don't know where to put things. This photo shows my brads, flowers, chipboard, ribbon, and much, much, more...loaded on top of the orginal organized items. I usually find an embellie that would have been perfect for a lo AFTER the lo is finished. I'd like to eliminate the clear cropper folder.

Tina this is definitely something we will be going over. As we did last year with Kelly leading us we will break down tons of options to store each type of embellishment. The key is to separate them from each other and create storage solutions you can "grow into". There is hope...

Patty I love what you have picked for your area.

Touch up painting the only drywalled wall. Oops! I forgot that is one more problem. All the walls are poured cement with a brick look. The ceiling is unfinished. I can't seem to hang anything on those cement walls.

In the fifteen years in the house flooding has happened three times. We have a painted floor, futon type family room furniture, pool table with rubber boots, foot tall base for TV. After the first time when electricity went out and sump pump didn't work, we have lost very few things because of our changes. So I need the same kind of solutions for my half of the room which we carved out of storage.

Since you have the unfinished ceiling. Can you see the beams? If so would you be able to hang a sheet of pegboard from them up against that wall. Or if your hubby is handy with all those tools. Could he build you a stand for the pegboard? Or would a piece of furniture for storage work well there. You could get one cheap and paint it to match your drywall. Just for a few suggestions.

New scraproom By Tdn823

Here is a recent pic of my scraproom, I've been working on for a while. It started out with a 6 ft. bookshelf and a 4 ft. table with everything in baskets, but oh so unorganized. I spent more time trying to find things and then reorganizing than I did scrapping. Than I started buying these cubes from M's. I really have no reason to have such a mess of embellishments but just can't find a way I really like them. I'm up for suggestions.

I was going to post this on Saturdays but my daughter is having her 5th Birthday party tomorrow so I am posting the second Pre-Challenge today.

PRE-CHALLENGE Challenge #2 - Lets keep this organized! It is important when you are going to organize so many things like we have in our scraproom to keep your ideas and thoughts organized. This week's pre-challenge it to make a binder...print your inspiration photos, add your color swatches and put them into the binder, add some loose leaf paper to keep notes in. If you want to have some scrappbooking fun (like we all do) alter the binder and make it be a representation of your vision for your room/space. Most of all Have FUN!!!!

Tina - I love your room, the color and the cubes are great. We will work out some of your embellishment organization. We will be spending time on just chipboard... then just ribbons... then just flowers... etc. (not necessarily in that order)

Hanging By a Moment

I am so excited. I unpacked a scraproom box to try to find a label tag from my scraproom at the old house to check the colors to the paint colors I have already purchased and chosen... guess what. THEY MATCH PERFECT! I can't believe it! I am so excited.

Oh and I finished the "Man Cave" so the next room I get to work in is .... drum roll please .... THE SCRAPROOM... Can't wait to get started painting it.

Here are some pics of the "Man Cave"

i feel like my two main work areas are constantly covered with things. i cant seem to get a hold of the mess. plus i think i have two many projects going at the same time. BUT i cant stay on one project otherwise i will get burnt out and the LOs will look awful. see its a double edge sword thats why i am excited for this challenge!

sorry to babble

Melissa, maybe it is organized still. Maybe what you have to organize is your routines. The thoughts and places behind your clutter are probably still in place. Maybe you just have to rethink one or two that didn't work.

Grace - fab man cave. You have such energy for your custom painting - it really shows!

I am in the scraproom right now, drooling over my freebie pack from Courtney Walsh - she did a giveaway on her blog in December and I won a box of goodies from her scraproom. It's tons of chatterbox - stuff I didn't buy myself but totally would have... love it. There are some other lines in there, too - really all great stuff. I will put some photos in my blog so you can gush with me - ha!

My roll of table covering came and it is not what I wanted - I should have gone more slowly. It's almost like papertoweling. I am worried that if I put it up it will start to sag over time - it's not crisp and has minimal body.

sad.

I will likely give it a try, tho. I just want a clean backdrop.

I think you want the big rolls of paper we teachers use. Most teacher supply companies sell big rolls.

Okay - I will have to look for teacher supply resources or maybe ask around locally (all my cousins are teachers). I am hoping for 40" wide or better... My sapce is 9x12, pretty much - and my ceilings are 8'8.5" (or will be once there is one - it seems like 10 ft now, but all the ducts are up in the joists up there, so it will be down to less than 9' when done).

I don't know how to link to this, but check out the scraproom in Scrapper Sara 22's gallery.

Thanks patty for the encouragement I think that my problem is that I dont have a lot of time in my room so If I want to get stuff done I have to just keep going with out putting stuff away and then you have the days where you start a page but dont finish so I end up leaving it and might start something else before I finish the other lol my other issue is that I feel the need to keep buying more lol
