Welcome to the August Budget Challenge! We're here to stay within limits on our scrappy spending!!!

Well, that's what we're hoping for.

The rules: List your budget for the month of August that you want to spend on supplies. Then, list the high priority items that you want to buy this month!

The catch: You can spend your money on whatever you want, list or impulse, but you must buy at least half of the items on your wish list!!! For example, if you list 10 items, you have to buy at least 5 of those and have me strike them off your list, etc. Please, make sure to tell me when I am supposed to strike off an item!

Tell us how much you spend throughout the month, and I will keep track of it in this post. We like details about your shopping around here. No such thing as TMI! You do not have to include costs for adhesives, swaps, gifts or shipping.

Please enable and tempt us to buy the wonderful items we want....but don't tempt us to bust our budget!!!

TWISTED!!! List at least one thing you are not allowed to buy for the whole month.

Okay I'm in again. How much can I spend if I am out of town for a week? Never mind...that is a bad question.

My budget is $100. I can't buy any more paper this month other than my wish list.

Wish List: Plain neutral cardstock, brads for my camping project, 2 packages of page protectors (thanks Tammy for reminding me)

I love this challenge...

okay can I ask a question totally not related to this challenge but is the current topic - adhesive..

I see all these posts about the pink ATG (or whatever it is). But I see the red one and it is HUGE. Seriously that isn't something I want to use but everyone raves about it.

I use this Ad Tech stuff from WM. Do you think that it is okay? It says it is photo safe on the package, but when you look at the refills it doesn't say that. Do you think the refills aren't photo safe? I'm starting to get concerned.

Sorry this doesn't fit this thread.

Which reminds me...I need adhesive. Guess I'm going shopping

Sorry I can't answer your question about the adhesive, but I can say the ATG is great. The size of it is immaterial. It's light enough, easy to use, and so economical!

Budget - $200

List - Wildlife Cricut Lite cartridge, idea book, Copic markers

Twist - no ribbon, no flowers

I was totally against the ATG but figured out the cost of refills to be much cheaper, esp if Micheal's carries them and I use a coupon. I do not have one, YET...but again, if I find one at M's and can use a coupon I will get it OR put it on my b-day list for DH to get. I am a little nervous about the size but everyone says you get used to that. I am paying 6 bucks for a smaller refill for my glue glider pro and can only get them at that price when HL has a coupon. I go thru those refills like crazy and it gets costly...so that is the only reason I am considering the ATG...plus, it is pink.

If the adtech says acid free and photo sfe, you will be ok. What I have read about the adtech is that they are not "holding" and people are having to go back and redo thier pages. I read that here on sb.com. But I also read that the glue sticks do not work and I used those for YEARS before I got my glue glider pro and all of my pages are still together. So I think it is a YMMV thing.

My DH set my budget for me, this month, at 200...but I am lowering it cause I really want to have a "rainy day" fund set aside in regards to scrapbook supplies. Like if I decide I want to buy something big, I have the money set aside and I do not bust that months budget. So my budget will be 150.00. I have to come back with a wishlist and twist....

Wow!! I wish I could spend 100 or 200 on sb supplies!! I am the poor kid!! lol
I am going to set my budget at $40. My wish list is solid card stock, a pink 12X12 binder, a red 12X12 binder, ribbon, foil embellies, stickers. I believe I can stay under $40 if I only buy half of this.
My off limits item will be flowers. No new flowers!!

I've been the poor girl already. My husband and I were both educators with two kids who both went to college. Louisiana has a program to keep experienced educators at work called DROP. If you defer your retirement, your retirement check goes into an escrow account for a maximum of three years while you work and still get your regular salary. Also, you're not paying into the retirement system during this time, so dh and I both took that "extra" money we hadn't got used to yet and put that into an investment fund. The program is the best thing ever to have happened to teachers in our state.

Huh??? confused.

Anyway, I have to tell you all a story. I went to J's today to get a blue ink pad. This shopping trip goes against my July budget but I'm still under. I only spent $29.

Of course I couldn't use my coupon because everything I got was on sale. The clearance box was AMAZING. I was in scrapbook clearance heaven.

BTW - Whoever is looking for that OTT lite thing, it is 50% off at J's.

Oh, back to my story. I found this box of cards that has been sitting on the shelf for months. It was marked on clearance at $3.97. When I got to the check stand I asked the lady if they could take more off because not all the cards were there. She said, she could take off for damage.

Then she said, wait, it is on clearance it is already marked down. She asked the lady next to her that said yes give me the damage discount. The lady who was helping me acted all pissed off.

Then she got all upset when she found out the box rung up for $1.97 before the discount and I only paid 25 cents for the box of cards.

She had this attitude and when I told her "if it makes you feel better, I'm making cards for abused children". She got all smug like. WHATEVER you little B****. She acted like she is the owner of J's and it came out of her paycheck. GRRRRRR

It just irritates the cr** out of me.

okay sorry...it just frustrated me.

I can't believe she acted like that Kiki! What's it to her! Some people!

I love my ATG...I got the red one, but painted it blue. The size is immaterial b/c it doesn't bother you at all once you start using it!

How can you all swear off flowers when I sell flowers??? Geesh!

So, let me get this right. This is an accountability forum? I don't even tell my HUSBAND how much money I spend on my scrapbooking supplies.

But (gulp) I'm in. I've got a $200 budget, but most of that goes to my Swirlydoos kit since I have all the add-ons (cardstock, embellishments, flowers) and it comes like clockwork every month, so I almost never go REAL shopping.

I do, however, have to shop for supplies (usually ribbon, brads, or flowers - stuff like that) for the projects that I teach at my LSS, but my boss reimburses me for those, so do I have to count them?

I can't imagine anything that I just can't LIVE without, but my wish list this month includes at least one of the TH new diecuts, probably the deer one.

Off limits would be another cricut cartridge. I have more of those than I will ever use.

Welcome, Pat! I don't think you should count anything that gets reimbursed. I think it's great that you can invest in such an awesome monthly kit and avoid any other shopping. I don't think I could do that!

Oh, I need to add to my wish list since I re-read the first post and see that I'm supposed to buy half of my wish list. I can't buy a half of one thing.

So, I'm adding three Stampin Up ink pads and re-inkers in colors that I don't have yet. I have to spend $25 when I go to SU every month since that's the way the group is set up, but I included that in my budget.

You know, I really wasn't sure at first how that would work out, but it really does work for me on a variety of levels.

I teach school in the real world, to pay the bills, and I work part time teaching classes at my LSS to pay for my scrapbook addiction habit hobby. I get to play with new product as part of my job there, and get paid besides for the projects that I create and teach, and the bonus is that the product for THOSE projects is free to me as marketing expense for the store. But because of the nature of a class project - a class of students needs to be able to create it start to finish in two hours - it doesn't really give me a lot of room to expand myself creatively.

I live in the country, and time is a premium for me. Between two jobs, farm chores, elderly parents, and taking care of things around the house, there's just not a lot of time for me to actually GO shopping if I want to have scrap time as well, so that's why I started getting the kits.

This way I can do projects for work at work, and then leave them on display at work. The Swirlydoos kit is for my own personal projects and photosgraphs, comes to my door, has lots of technique opportunities, and I don't have to spend time going to the store to window shop and impulse buy.

I'm actually SAVING money since I started doing it this way.

Anyway - TMI, I'm sure. But I kind of wanted to explain. I know I'm VERY blessed to not only have a job in this industry that pays me to create, but also to be blessed with a budget that allows me to have almost anything that I want and a husband who never asks me "how much did THAT cost." I feel guilty about it sometimes. Never guilty enough to quit doing it, but it does sort of curb my impulsive purchase disorder.

Alyssa, I will come up with a wish list and post it tomorrow. I have no idea what I am wishing for that I do not already have....there are a few new things that I saw on CHA posts...but those are not available, yet. Anyone know when all the new stuff will hit the stores?

Good Morning to you. Good Morning to you. We're all in our places with bright shiny places...

I slept like a rock. I guess no sleep the night before helped. I have to pack the food in the Motorhome and we are off.

I'm just so sad to be leaving my DS behind. I'm going to miss him. He isn't coming until Thursday. *Sigh*

And the day I leave SB is having a 75% sale on clearance stuff. DARN!!

You and me both Alissa! I'm kind of trying to swear off all daily deals at the moment to not spend so much this month...but I always forget that sb.com even has them b/c they never seem to be great!

My lss is closing soon. I picked up cs for the amount she owed me for working. Then I spent $10 on pp, stickers, fabric paint, and a charm. The pp included 3 sheets of Prima Sew Pretty and a sheet of beautiful handmade paper, cream with pretty pink roses along the edge. I also bought PH pens to give to friends. I saved over $55!

So please subtract $10 from my budget, and nothing needs to be crossed off my list.

I forgot to post my wishlist...sorry. I am really thinking hard about it. I just buy what I want (don't we all?) so not time to really wish for it.

Sizzix Font Die (2), embossing powders, MS punch around the page, ribbons / floss

I try not to leave to house so I do not make impulse buys...LOL. Sometimes that does not help since the daily deal sites are on my radar. there are some really cute BG ribbons on PC and some MS embossing powders on another site...I just do not buying color specific things on the web cause I like to SEE the colors better. hard to pass up a good deal, however.

oh...forgot to ask. Is anyone a Club CK member? They have a message board, like this one, but also have a premium membership with a few more perks. it is Creative Keepsakes...with the membership you get a JoAnn discount card (10%), tips and tricks mag subscription (that pays for the membership right there), and some perks at the conventions (never one in Dallas, it seems). The member ship is 19.99. I am thinking of joining. Has anyone been a member there?

I'm not bananas about the CK magazine but I like the 10% from Js part. But I would wonder if that could be used with other coupons, like free shipping. If not, definitely not worth it.

Do you want to add a twist, Tiffany?

Sprinkle a little glitter on it before it dries and I'm sure it'll pass just fine

You guys are funny. I haven't found any shopping. We actually didn't make any stops. But tomorrow we are leaving for another place and we have to stop at the grocery store. I'll be looking for one in a shopping center if you know what I mean *wink wink*

Hey at least my budget is still in tact.

I almost blew it today. Had to go the WM for my son's school supplies and somehow found myself in the scrapbooking isle. Didn't buy a thing. Then I had to go to a CM party. I like their punches and paper. I took a book to look at and got the heck out of there! Wish me luck tomorrow... I have this 40% off coupon burning a hole in my pocket.

Ok I am really missing some familiar faces on this thread....I know Tammy is on vacation (still miss her) but where is "mamasaid"? I have not seen a post from here.....unless she changed her avatar and I just do not recognise her...

We need a list of daily deal sites. I have my few I check but I do not know some of the ones Stephanie just listed....or maybe I do and do not know the "codes". The ones I look at are CC (cropchocolate), PC (peachycheap), ACOT (acherryontop), CS (craftysteals), SS (scrapbooksteals), kindredcreations.blogspot, Bazzinga (which is on summer vacation)....and I think that is all. Scrapbook.com and 2peas have daily deals, too. I have not bought from all of these sites but they are on the radar when making my rounds everyday.

My budget is still intact cause I am too hot to leave the house.....but I have only 2 more LOs of water park stuff to do and I am going to find something to buy. I am doing a swap on CC and need to get in my room to find something to swap. The point is to get rif od stuff you have and do not use...but it would be so much easier just to buy something to swap...LOL. Kindof a lazy attutude, huh?

I turned in my StampinUp order this morning. The die cut was something I've been wanting for lolipop flowers, but I didn't put it on my wish list. The rest is in the inks that I don't have yet list.

Wish List
119671 Cajun Craze Ink Pad $5.95
119790 Cajun Craze Ink Refill $2.95

Gotta Spend $25 List
114526 Circles Die Cut $15.95

Well C*R*A*P List (The stuff that I didn't put these on my wish list and should have because I ordered them too.)
119678 Cajun Craze Write Marker $3.50
119677 Daffodil Delight Write Marker $3.50
119681 Cherry Cobbler Write Marker $3.50

Total Spent = $35.35 So not TOO bad off budget. I'll be ok.

I'm "shopping" for free today. I am in the 12x12 paper swap and got the box today. That helps my addiction for today...tomorrow is another story. I need to take my son to the orthodontist and there just happens to be a few scrapbooking stores nearby

I had planned on making a little shopping trip this afternoon to HL and my local LSS. Hubby surprised me by coming home early. My trip was totally sabotaged. On a plus note, my Distrezz it All arrived today.

MOI? You include MOI in the Stephanie and Alyssa message? You must have me confused with someone else. Not MOI. I am ALWAYS good. Always.

Man you ARE a junkie, girl. I bow to your junkieness. You are the greatest of all the junkies I have ever met.

Four hours. Wow. LOL.

I'm a nut...what can I say! I like new stuff! But...I'm still not going to shop...so you should be proud of me!

I think if I'd have had some paper in that box with the punches...the euphoric feeling might've lasted a couple of hours longer!

No Tante...I don't deny it...I'm a mess...and a junkie. Good thing I never tried drugs
